Mavratzi

Location: At the end of the Vassilikos Peninsular
Getting There: Follow the main road from Argassi. Go through the town of Vassilikos and look for signs for the Zante Royal Palace Hotel. The beach is next to the hotel which has been closed since the beginning of 2008
Access: The access road is steep with only a couple of parking spaces at the bottom so you might have to walk down the hill
Sunbeds: For a while the beach was deserted, but some enterprising soul was selling sunbeds before the end of the 2008 season
Toilets: No
Watersports: No, it used to be a watersports centre, but not at the moment
Safe for Kids: Yes
Food & Drinks: No
Turtles: No
Seaweed: Quite a lot has accumulated on the beach as nobody is clearing it up
Sand or Pebbles: Sand
Car Parking: Only a couple of spaces at the bottom of the hill. It's probably easier to park higher up and walk down

We booked into the Louis complex above Mavratzi as a last minute deal.
The beach was most certainly not as advertised within the travel brochure. It was not clean, it was TINY and we went in Sept. Can't imagine it in the peak season!
I truly believe it's imported sand and because it's so small the whole beach constantly stinks of the diesel from the watersports.
The sunbeds are so close together you could possibly get pregnant from the stranger lying next to you.
Don't go.
If you are reasonably mobile, climb the track at the end of the beach and walk to 3 lovely beaches within about 15 mins. The climb is a bit hard for 200 yrds or so then evens out.
We were party of 4 in our early 50's and we managed it!

The Sand was quite full of cigarette ends and so forth despite the presence of little litter pots by every parasol, so you couldn't walk too far bare foot without placing your foot in something nasty. The swimming was very good however, very gentle waves and a slow and gradual slope into the water. The watersoprts are great, flyfish is phenomenal(25 euros a pop), i wouldn't advise children below 14 go on flyfish as you need quite a bit of strength to hold on. Its not a beach with much posing potential, most of the women whom choose to tan topless on there, you'd rather prefer they kept tops on. drink lager or water as wasps tend to come and land in everything else.

This is a lovely secluded beach with plenty to offer in terms of food, drink and watersports. It's nearest (& only) hotel seems to be the Royal Palace but it's situated well within walking distance of Gerakas Bay and St Nicholas Beach. Well worth a visit. Sun loungers & umbrella = 8 euros for the day.
