Restaurants in Kalamaki

Jacqui W  (30 December 2004)

One of the hot spots of the island ! with the best food and the friendliest staff around. Also owners Makis and Flora go out of their way to make your stay unforgetable.
My family and I ate there just about every night, great choices on the menu and they also change any dish to suit your taste. The kids also loved the pizzas, the best you'll find from their own oven.
I will certainly be back as it's also the best value and quality around.
See you guys soon and save me a table !

I think Rosie Brown must have been on a different Island. We returned from Kalamaki a week ago and from the 14 nights we were there we went to Castello 11 of them. The service was very friendly and professional, the food was excellent (no problem if you wanted it a bit different from the menu) and the prices were spot on. The roast potatoes are to die for. We usually sat down stairs and listened to the music next door. It was a bit loud sometimes but you can always go upstairs if you prefer it a bit quiet. I can not recommend Castello highly enough, Makis and his team are great. And remember if you fancy something and it is not on the menu, just ask Makis. Give him a bit of notice and he will do his best. On our last night I had a superb Lobster and Janice had a wonderful grilled fresh fish. Thanks to everyone for making our holiday even better.
Can someone also explain why Costello is only 4/10. Most of the comments are possitive and there are other establishments not far away with 10/10 that I would never wish to set foot in again.

Lisa L  (09 October 2004)

We had a lovely meal in here, I had the bac-broc pasta which was lovely, my hubby had the chicken, our eldest daughter had a pizza which came to her in a heart shape(she was very impressed). we all had desserts which were to die for(mmmm cheesecake). This was a really nice place to eat and the staff were very fiendly.

William H  (26 September 2004)

We visited Castello on our very first night on Zante, and enjoyed it so much we returned for our last evening on the island. The staff were very welcoming and the pizza's delicious!! Makis (? - the happy chap with a beard!!!) made us feel at home, and when i expressed an interest in the pizza oven took me into the kitchen to have a closer look!!! We were told we would be able to taste the difference with the pizza's cooked in such an authentic manner and we certainly could!! i had the 'Vesuvio' - yum yum!!
We definately recomend this restaurant to anyone in Kalamaki and even the nearby area! We hope to return to Zante so get the oven ready!! Many thanks, Will and Hannah (Harris)

Andy G  (06 September 2004)

Have just returned yesterday after 2 weeks in Kalamaki,Makis made us very welcome and on our last night there treated us to a specially made sweet which was delicious, watch out for his specials the roast beef and roast lamb are something else.

Hi I am really sorry if I got the restaurants muddled up,obviously if this is not the one above the fire club then i cant actually say i have eaten there. but i did eat at the one above the fire club and my previous comment still stands, it was not very nice and slow slow service, but i cannot remeber what it was called. Sorry once again to Castellos for getting it wrong.I promise I will find your restaurant next year and sample your food which is obviously superb according to the coments on this page

Richard S  (21 August 2004)

We have just returned after a week in Kalamaki. We were attracted to the Castello in our search for a restuarant with a pizza oven- this was after poor experinces of limp crusty pizzas at other places. We were not disappointed, returning on two further occasions for excellent pizzas- the calzone was scumptious. The pasta was also good fare. The service was very friendly. If you want large TV sceeens and average food go elsewhere. It will be a pity if Kalamaki degenerates a smaller version Laganas. The Castello was definely a classier operation. Thank you

Hollie N  (20 August 2004)

i went to zante with my mam dad and brother in july. we went to makis's restaurant every night of our holiday because the food was really nice and makis and his staff became our best freinds. MAkis helped my mam and dad when i was poorly and took us out for the day to zante town. I made best friends with costandeenos that is makis son. i cant wait until we go back to see all my friends and have my chicken breast and chips.

Carole K  (20 August 2004)

Rosie Brown should get her facts right before slating this restaurant! Castello's isn't above the Fire Club & I totally disagree with all the comments posted by her.
I found Castello's the best restaurant in the resort of Kalamaki & without a doubt will be back next year to share a bottle of wine & fine food with Makis, Flora, Yota & Costas.
Good luck to you all & for anyone reading this............If you dont try it you wont taste the best food in Kalamaki.

Martin B  (20 August 2004)

this restaurant is not above the fire club so the comments below are untrue. I think this restaurant happens to be the best in the resort both for value and quality and above all friendly and hard working staff.

Jemma P  (17 August 2004)

We came here a few times on our holiday in which we have just returned from, and each time we really enjoyed our meals. Everything was so fresh the pasta is really nice, and my partners meat was nicely cooked. I highly recommend the cheese pies they are fantastic!!!

Makis A  (11 August 2004)

Thanks everybody for the good comments and always my staff and i we will try to do the best for you and your familly.

Jenny F  (11 August 2004)

We had eaten at Castello's for 13 years. We awlays enjoy the food. the staff are very friendly and some very good looking. We look forward to coming next year.

Judith & Steven  (09 August 2004)

we found castellos three years ago and with two teenages who take some pleaseing found this to be one of the best on the island . Last year castellos was moveing to new premises ,so the whole family wasat a loss to find a good place to eat .This year we wear all pleased to find the new place open but all the staff to be graet & the food still to mike & flows high standards.

Rosie B  (01 August 2004)

If this is the place above the fire club then we must have gone on a bad night, cos the service was slow, the staff were not very polite, and the food was not very good, also was one of most expensive emals during our fortnight.

Martin B  (27 July 2004)

this restuarant made a great holidat fantastic . the staff are all friendly and helpful and the food is to die for. if you intend to visit try something different everytime im sure you will be suprised. the roast lamb and beef are delicious as is the fillet beef and the chicken dish in soy sauce and basalmic vinegar that makis cooks is sheer heaven on the taste buds. we hope to see you all next year we arrive on the 7th july 2005 table for four please my friends

Carole K  (21 July 2004)

we arrived in kalamaki tired & hungry, had a quick wash and headed into town for something to eat. castello's was the first restaraunt we came to, we enjoyed the meal & company so much, my family & i came back night after night for the two weeks we were here. makis, yota, costas, flora & dimitri treat us like royalty, taking us to their hearts. the food, atmosphere & service are with out a doubt the best we have ever received anywhere in the world. i recommend you try this once & you will not want to eat anywhere else.
we have made good friends here & plan to keep in touch with them all.
love & best wishes for your continued success

James L  (27 June 2004)

Just got back from our first stay in Kalimaki and had a fantastic time. The whole island was gorgeous, but made even more enjoyable by Castello's beautiful roof top restaurant. On our 14 night stay on the island, we ate at Castello's 7 times as the food was delicious, the service great, and the ambience unforgettable. The waiter Sakis was very friendly, funny and good at his job, while the owner Makis was the friendliest man, making us feel welcome and at ease. The food was fantastic - especially the pizza's, pasta, and roast beef - even made a vegetarian turn to meat again!!!

Missing your excellent company, food and service Makis and Sakis - hope to see you again soon. Thank you especially for a lovely last night and coffee.

Thank you both so much.

Jennie and James

Sue A  (20 June 2004)

Have just returned from our first visit to Kalamaki and had a great time and certainly will return. There are many excellent restaurants to choose from but our favourite has to be the Castello. We visited Castello's on our 1st, middle and last night and were never disappointed. The food and service were excellent and we were made to feel so welcome. We had an especially excellent last night thanks to Makis (the owner). Thank you very much Castello's.

Yvonne G  (29 May 2004)

Castello have now moved along the road next to Vanessa Hotel to brand new premises & now has a roof terrace but still has the wood burning oven with traditional Pizza and roasted meats
We have eaten at Castello for 6 years now and have never had a bad or even indifferent meal and have always found the service to be excellent -If have tried it before and been dissapointed the for your own sake TRY IT AGAIN!!!!
Makis, Flora together with their family and staff have always been very friendly and welcoming to us and all other people that we have taken to meet them As with all places abroad Be patient when it comes to service!

Christopher D  (27 September 2003)

I had stone cold Mousaka which had no taste, partner had lamb chops which had less meat than a wasp could produce avoid this place like the plague it was CRAP

Matthew W  (22 August 2003)

Superb pizzas. We had a takeaway and took back to the apartment twice. YUM!

Sophie L  (11 August 2003)

It was really nice. The food was great, price brilliant and the service was really great. You can even see them making the pizzas fresh, and the staff are always happy to help. The only thing that we didn't like was that we weren't on the roof, but inside at the end of what seemed like a corridor, just because we were a fair sized party (six) though I think it is worth a visit.

Graeme   (13 June 2003)

Just re-opened in new premesis, had castellos pizza, superb, too much to eat...

Richard & Sarah  (06 October 2002)

Ate here once during our week. Had steak and lamb kleftiko. Thought the lamb was a bit greasy (and it had some grissly bits) but the steak was lovely. The Harvest Bar next door is a bit loud. Service very good, people very nice, clean tables etc. Worth a visit.

Mike P  (01 August 2002)

Value for money - you can't get better. Just make sure you have an appetite! Great tasting food from a varied menu set in a lovely area. Staff are very friendly and look after you well. Can sometimes be a bit too busy and you need to sit in a prominent location or you could be forgotten. Recommend the Baked Tortellini with a Greek Salad.

Darren P  (01 July 2002)

Ate here on the first night so struggling to remember, the fact that it doesn't stand out in my memory probably tells its own story.

Mary Y  (12 October 2001)

Very good value - excellent service. October 2001

Grace H  (11 October 2001)

Yummy. The food here is great. My husband is a real steak man, and had tried various restuarants in Kalamaki, but said that this one was the best value. He paid 3,700 for a fillet steak that was about 10oz I think. It was also cooked just how he likes it (very fussy when it comes to steak). The pasta dishes were good but steer clear of the lasagne. Our friends had it and said that it was a bit tasteless and there was too much pasta and not enough meat. That said, I would definitely recommend.

Andrew D  (30 September 2001)

Quite pricey but the pizza is massive ! This is too much for one unless you are really hungry. Lasagne is good value too.

John T  (14 September 2001)

We were particularly impressed with the sea food pasta dish here.

Joe D  (02 September 2001)

Food here was lovely, quick service and very friendly staff. A lot of Greek families ate here in the evening which is always a good sign. Spag Bol was under £3 as were the REAL pizzas.

Mary S  (02 September 2001)

Went to Castello twice as a change from eating Greek.Pizzas are huge,we over ordered on our first visit thinking of U.K.portions and found it difficult to eat the feast put bfore us. You only need to share a ceasars salad and a pizza between two and then just maybe you might have room for a dessert.Good value for money even with several drinks and liquers.Bon appetite!

Karl P  (02 August 2001)
