Alykanas Resort

Resorts in Zante

Carolyn F

fabulous place... this is jean foster oct.2005 enjoying her first visit to zante.

Julian P

Typical Greek tourist village. Dusty roads meet at a cross roads which are strung with bars, restaurants and half built apartments. Most of the restaurants are Greek but there are a some either English owned or English themed bars either pumping out English music or showing the footie. The pavement often disappears so be careful as many of the locals fly around at dangerous speeds, particularly at night.

Don't get me wrong, I actually liked the place. Many of the restaurants were pretty good and the while resort can be busy and bustling it's far quitter and friendly than the rowdy 18-30 towns and you can have a good time and relax.

The beach at one end of the resort isn't bad and Alikes is close by which is a little busier.

No way Authentic Greek, but a good choice for the general Brit looking for good weather and something a little different. If you want McDonalds - go to Laganas.

Carolyn F

we have been to alykanas for the past 5 years in both september and october and have always had good weather for the time of tear.this year was a bit cloudy for first couple of days then it was hot and sunny.mouzakis and levante bar are an excellent place to stay and eat as well as relax by the pool with good company (all the regular gang - too many to mention, the gang is growing every year, wont be long before it becomes a private club!!!).

the pool is spotless, the rooms are basic but very clean and the maid maria (bless her) works hard every day emptying bins, changing beds and towels.
the restaurant caters for all with excellent service and hospitality.as always the gang meet in the bar for drinks.great stuff.see you all next year.
ps. allan, glad to hear you are sorted.

Katie, L

We went on holiday for two weeks on the 7th to the 21st of August. Enjoyed it all esspecially the Dilemma Bar we went there every night and had a great laugh.

Dillemma Bar (located next to Alakanas Beach Village) Over 80 different Cocktails available!

Laura M

There is not anything that we didn't like, it great for families, we had a long and relxing holiday here.

Karen M

We loved it here, Very good for families or couples who don't want a PARTY, but a nice time. The horse and carts add character, we only used them as a free taxi to the restaurants.

The beach is perfect, lovely soft sand and the sea warm and shallow. Alikes is good for this too.
Some nice shops and lovely bars and restaurants, too many to try in two weeks!
Would recomend Dionisis tours for Turtle trip, Zante town shopping trip (loads of shops and chemists, I got cold sore like you never sore!), Island tour by coach and definately the Trainaki and their Greek night.
We tried these restaurants and all were excellent: Greedy Greek, Apollo, Dionissis, Lemon Tree, and the Cosy Corner.
Sad to be back in England, me and my daughter missing the sun!

Lucy H

Hi All,

I'm heading to The Alykanas Beach Hotel on 28th August 2005 and was wondering if these Air Conditioning codes actually exist or how much the A/C costs per week?   Is the night life any good.  I'm going with my girlfriend and we're looking for some lively places to go at night, and good restaurants, of course.

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Ross (Glasgow)

Hi Annette

Glad to be of help, as a matter of intrest we spend most of the day round the pool in the Mousazakis apts
& most of the night in the Levante bar at the front of the apts.
My wife Carol daughter Donna & boyfriend John can't wait to get back there, if you look back on the resorts page you will find a picture of me & Carol.
Be sure to say Hello.

John W

We loved it because it wasn't too noisy and has a nice beach. Would recommend the turtle trek for 15 EUROS from Dionosis next to the Greedy Greek don't be ripped off by the reps prices

Marie A

Hi

just seen Andys comments re air con code were going in sept/oct for 3 weeks so if there is a code or any advice I'd appreciate it
thanks
Marie

Dionysis Tours are a good company to use rather than your tour operator.  They have offices next to the Greedy Greek on the main road, or opposite the Alykanas Beach Village (turn right out of Letsos).  If you go to this office, say hello the Heather for me.

Have a great time.

Fiona S

Hey, just got back from another amazing holiday in alykanas! cant rate the location enough, its perfect for a family holiday!!  one of the best parts- the horse and carts! they are great, especially yiannis who is everyones favourite!

Allan H

To Simone f

Just a short note to let you know not to worry, weather is great in September we have been the last 2 years & had 2 days rain, still hot but not mad hot just nice for sunbathing.
The nights are lovely I just wear teeshirts, never needed a jumper etc, although my wife sometimes carries a cardigan.
Nightlife is quieter in Alykanas but there is an abundance of bars & restaruants, Alikes is a nice 15mins walk away & is a bit more livlier.
We are going again this year arrive15th september & can be found most nights around 11pm in the LEVANTE bar(opposite the Posiden restaruant) with the rest of the gang, pop in & see us if you like let us know what you think of the place. Just as a matter of intrest there is a cash machine in centre of town.
Hope you have a Great holiday.

Anyway thanks again,

Andy S

We are stopping in the Alykanas village this year and I understand a few people managed to get the engineers code for the air conditioning unit so you don't have to pay for it. Does anyone know the code?

Tommy C

Hi I'm going to Alykanas for the first time in August to the letsos aparthotel and wondered if anyone could give me any advice on the resort and any excursions that are worth going or where to find out. Thanks Tommy Cox

Vivienne W

We returned last night from Alykanas Beach Hotel (I think Rachelle may be at hotel next door Alykanas Village) with our 4 year old and 1 year old.  Really fantastic time, so child friendly.  Our hotel provided travel cot that was in really good condition.  We also found nappies and wipes easy to buy, but take loads of swim nappies as you can't get them anywhere at all.  Food fine for kids everywhere, but limited choice of baby food jars and formula, although you can get it.

National Car rental have cars with good car seats too.

Highchairs in all restaurants.  Everyone makes kids welcome.  Loads of restaurants in area, some with play areas.  We loved Lemon Tree (Spiro can take you in his horse and carriage!), Dionisos, and Mantalena.

Hotel great - clean, good facilities, 2 bed apartment really spacious.  No irons or hairdryers so take if you need them.

Brilliant holiday - hope you enjoy yours - we'll be back!

Rachelle P

Hi, I am going to Alykanas Village last 2 weeks in July for the first time,(heard its very nice), but wondered about cots for babies, if they are in safe condition etc, I am travelling with two babies under 20 months and did not have a good experience in different resort last year so I wondered if I should bring travel cots? I appreciate your reply Regards Rachelle

Allan H

There is no problem hiring cycles, cars, scooters etc, there is plenty to see in the surrounding area & if he is very energetic & doesn't mind distance he will have a great time exploring.

You have picked a great resort to go to, going back in September for 3rd time can't wait.  I know you will have a brill holiday.

Paul I

Off to Alykanas in July taking mother and father for their fist visit can anyone tell us if you can hire cycles in the resort as father is a mad cycler cheers for any help

Josie J

Thanks for all you replies can't wait for the 29th...

Gary F

Hi Josie,

We have stayed at Mouzakis numerous times and going again in October. The Mouzaki family will make you very welcome, offer clean but basic rooms, fantastic pool and area with snack bar. All tastes are catered for in the restaurant. Small souvenier shop and bar. Everything else you need is very close by.
If you need any more information please write.

Bradley M

I stayed at Mouzakis with my family in Alikanas. It was brill! The restaraunts were gorgeous, the shops were good, the beach was excellent, the people were nice and the pool was great!! All the people are so nice to you and treat you like royalty!! I made lots of new greek friends like erolla, tasha, demitri and other people to! We also went to a bar called the mill bar. That was the best bar I have ever been to. Julie, the owner, has a heart of gold and even offered me a free Bacardi Breezer when I got bored!!

I have got to thank Demitri and Julie for the best holiday ever!! I f you've never been abroad I suggest you book a holiday here in Alikanas!!

David

We stay here every year and love it. Nice pool and snack bar for daytime. Nice resatuarant and bar for nightime.

Josie J

Does anyone know whether or not you can hire a quad bike in this area or anywhere on the island. Hirted one last year on Kos and i think boyfriend would say it was the best thing about the holiday, says a lot for me! Thankyou for any help.

Lorraine S

we were in alykanas last july and we loved it it is exactly what it says in most of the brochures a peaceful laid back resort we came back so chilled it was brilliant we are hoping to be back there in july this year , we never thought we would enjoy greece theres one thing i would never do spain again after being here and see why people come back year after year

David

We have been going to Alykanas since 1997 and love it. It is only about a 15 minute walk from Alykes. The trip from the airport is only about 25 minutes by taxi.

D J

never been to zante and having a look at all the various resorts (not 18-30 so rules out laganas). do like to have a few lively bars etc. thinking of kalamaki at the mo but not 100% sure. which is the busy resort:- alykanas or alykes? and how far by taxi/coach from the airport? any feedback be really appreciated.

Stuart B

we stayed at kosmars beach apartments and was top notch.stepped out of pool onto beach sea doesnt get deep for 100meters. kids lovedit wife loved I want to live there.

Craig W

i would just like to say that we came to zante in october this year and we stayed in the Yannis and Dannys apartments and i would like to just say that i have never had such a good holiday there was four of us and for the time of year that we went it was fantastic. The room was clean, the resort was lovely, the people was so kind, the beach was out standing and the whole place was just great. we loved it and would go back any day. i would just like to thank yannie for making our holiday so great. the room was perfect and we will be seeing you again. all you people saying bad things about yannis and dannys apartments need to think before putting what you do put because i thought the place was FANTASTIC!

Jade W

no 1 will b disapointed with alykanas beach aparthotel it is amazing. u cu b wen u leave tho

Jade W

i stayed at alykanas beach aparthotel in 2003 and i thought that it was brill but when you left down the little road into alykes it was far to comersialised for me. we had greeks pulling us by the arms litteraly into the restaurants. my faves was the lemon tree and apollo

Sarah W

To Mark.We stayed in a studio for 4 last year and it was quite large, there is a double bed next to the patio doors and 2 single beds the other side of a half partition wall next to the bathroom. We emailed Gloria the manager about 2 weeks before we went and asked for ground floor due to having 2 children and she was fantastic,we found it so much easier not having to be on edge when they went near the balcony. [ and the advantage is you can leave your room unlocked and just jump over a small wall when you need to get in, which everyone done!!]You will have a fantastic holiday, 18 of us are going back for the 3rd time in june and we cant wait. But take some plug in mosquito killers with you as they do like to feast on the english. Have a great time, you have nothing to worry about the studios are great.

Mark C

booked for abv for aug 2005, could only get a studio, there will be 2 adults 2 children. has anyone else with a family this size stayed in a studioi for 4? what are they like for space?

Heather C

my husband and i have just come back from our honeymoon(two weeks), we stayed at the alykanas beach village hotel.
it was a wonderfull holiday. the hotel itself was clean and very well equiped, we had maid service every day and all the staff spoke very good english and were very polite. the only thing was that the swimming pools were cold, we prefered to swim in the sea as this was warmer.
the boat trip to the smugglers cove was very long and tiring and i didnt think it was worth the money we paid to go and see it.
the night life was just enough for us as it wasnt to loud. all the bars we went to were very nice and reasonable in price.
the food in the resturants was lovly, and we didnt have a bad meal while we were over their.
the airport was very small and very expensive so buy food and water before you go for your flyte home.
overall a very enjoyable holiday, and we would go again.

Paul N

We had a brilliant time in Alykanas, I am doing this posting as i want everyone who goes there to be aware of the henna tattoos, we (my wife, son and 2 daughters) all had the tattoos done thinking it was a good idea at the time, we were wrong! My son is having to go to the hospital to have a dressing changed every day this is because the henna used was not true henna, my youngest daughter has got a winnie the pooh tattoo scar on her stomach and my wife has also got a scar on her back. If you are considering having it done make sure it is true henna, if it is black it's not. PLEASE think very carefully as the scar my son has been left with is awful. Other than that we had a brilliant holiday and would love to go back again, only this time we would avoid the henna tattoos!!

Mike C

Stayed at Alykanas Beach Village, which was excellent. Great pools and beach location.Loads of good restaurants and bars. Pity about the congestion at the airport, but this is typically Greek.
The beach village itself was spotless,as were the rooms. Great for kids! We enjoyed it so much, we've just booked for next year.Try it,it's great!

Allan H

There was 4 of us, 2 couples we stayed at the Dennis Apartments Alykanas, from the last 2 weeks in September 1st week in October 2003. we had an exellent time so much so we fly out 16th , eptember (2weeks 2days) for 3 weeks. The resort caters for all groups, familys couples etc, spent some time each night in the Levante bar (Greek owned)had a good laugh with all. The choice of restaurants is good and varied, and to work up an appetite a walk to the Lemon Tree restaurant is well worth it.

Suzi D

having read the comments below, i was just wondering if anyone who's been in september rather than the high season has been bothered by begging etc? is it common out of season too?

Teresa K

stayed in Alykanas Village Hotel, very pleased with accomodation, apart from no entertainment provided for adults or children, day or night. Nico in pool bar/restaurant friendly. Resort itself is small but Alkyanas has some lovely restaurants and good bars, very reasonable price wise. Young local boys speeding around like crazy men at night on mopeds is a worry as we witnessed a number of crashes while sitting in a bar on the main road. Quiet part of the island not suitable for party goers as music in bars must be lowered by 12 at night as it is the law. Recommend to do some tours as they were very enjoyable and the scenery is amazing.

Rachel G

went 4 2 weeks n it was brill me n me mate had a great time. we went 2 flame bar mostly and it was excellent we stayed at the valais hotel right near the beach and it was a really nice family run hotel!

to any one reading you should go 2 alykanas in zante its great!!!!!!!!!!!

Vicky W

We stayed in Alikanas beach studio apartments between 1st-8th Aug 04, I enjoyed my time here getting to look at at peter the barman every night (very nice). All staff were friendly and the weather was hot, and i will definatly be returning.

Diane A

This is in reply to Richards message from 20th July. We were in Alykanas last year, thankfully stayed outside the main resort at Old Alykanas which was beautiful. Alykanas itself is much too commercial and has lost most of its Greek charm you could be anywhere! Richard talked about the beggars and street sellars coming around the tavernas, they were a real nuisance and I would just like to say that we've been going to various Greek islands for the last 15 years and have NEVER come across this before! Maybe it's because we tend to stay away from very popular islands and resorts, but it's not the norm and they were very annoying, it was another nail in the coffin for Alykanas as far as we were concerned!

Mandy B

we have visited alykes alikanas several times dannys studios is within walking distance of bars resterants supermarketscash points etc there more in alikes which you can walk to or get a horse and cart ride or taxi Dannys was ok when we stayed there 3 years ago mandy portsmouth england

Jackie

Might try Alykanas Beach Apart-hotel next time

Jackie

Just got back from the beach village. Excellent holiday, the only downside really was the view from the balcony...it appeared to be some kind of rubbish tip and to make matters worse the cleaners stacked the bin bags at the bottom of the stairs every morning and they weren't picked up til late afternoon most days, oh yes....and the balcony was shaded over early in the day, couldn't get a sun bed so had to use the beach ALL the time.

Hannah M

i work as a rep in alykanas its a beautiful resort great for all ages your never to fare away from the centre of town many shops bars and many places to eat, a truly great place for a chance to relax and have some fun.

John T

Yes there is cash point.

Mandi H

Are there any cash points in Alykanas in case i run out of money ?

Sian W

i stayed in the Alykanas beach apartment. It was really good, i loved it. i loved the bar and pool area we had. i would like to say a big hello to angelio and peter the barmen.
im definalty going back next year and all the years to come.

Richard G

Good quality beaches in both alykanas and alkes. Expect to pay around £5 for 2 sunbeds and a parasal. Average range of watersports can be found at Alkes, although these are quite pricy. Recommend the Oasis bar off alkanas beach for a superb range of daytime snacks and friendly service. Nightlife is ok - only one small club in Alykanas, but about 20+ bars which are perfect for several cocktails.

Both myself and my girlfiend enjoyed the Holiday overall, a big downer is that beggars and people selling shoddy gifts are allowed freely into taverns - which spoils not only a meal but a feel for the place. However I can imagine this happens a lot in Greece.

Alykanas overall seemed a nice typical greek place, however I'm unsure if I would return.

Rebecca G

Liz - don't worry about groceries as there's plenty of places. There's a little shop just 50 yards from the hotel entrance that stays open late and sells all the basics. Bigger supermarket on the main road in Alykanas, only a 5 minute walk away, that sells everything.

Les F

just back from alykanas beach village on 8/7/04 and on 9/7/04 booked again for next year.fantastic place, brill beach and pool and lovely people.this was one of the best holidays we've had.great hotel.

Ada F

We go to alykanas twice a year and love it I told jackie and ron we would not be going this year because we had just moved house but guess what we will be in alykanas on sunday 11 july and cant wait to ge away from all this rain.

Liz B

We are visiting Alykanas Beach Village in August this year, i can't find any mention of supermarket shopping in the area, can anyone recommend anywhere to buy food basics.

Rick B

Went to Alykanas in May and had a fabulous time. It was quiet then but the food and people were great. The best Greek eateries were Dionasis and Jester's bbq. The Golden Dolphin at Alykes was superb for home made English food and is right next to the hire boats and jet ski's which does an excellent sea excursion to the Blue caves. Not to be missed. Wayne, who hires out the boats is also the night time bar manager at the Zanziba in Alykanas(opposite Busters)which is a great place to chill out on the comfy sofas after a busy day on the beach. Watching Wayne shake his cocktails should not be missed! Wayne and his lovely wife Julie make everybody welcome with typical Yorkshire hospitality.

Catherine R

Just come back from a week staying at Hotel Plessas Palace. First time abroad with 2 children aged nearly 2 and 3 and found everything wonderful. Alykanas is a friendly place, beach is superb- shallow water and not too busy (in June anyway). Would recommend to anyone looking for a quieter than usual resort but still with an excellent choice of tavernas. Hire a car and visit Askos Animal Park located North of Alykanas in the mountains.

Zoie

Just to say you have to do a horse and cart ride with Yiannis. He really made us laugh and the kids loved it.

Tina K

Good place for families. There's a good beach and the choice of restaurants and bars is good but not too loud, I didn't notice any clubs. I personally found it a bit tacky, more like Blackpool than Greece, but that's what most tourists want. If your looking for a bit of the real Greece, from what i saw, Kefalonia would be a better choice.

Derek H

Have just returned from our third visit, the place is as good if not better than it has been in the past. New taverna called the Romantza on the beach road is excellent value with great food. Best place we found for money exchange is the Dionisis booking office next to the greedyb greek. Exhange of stirling is free of commision.

David

loads of money changing places all over. The rate is 2% i think..

Mark

Any good places to exchange travellers cheques near alykanas and how much do they charge

Brian

we have just returned after staying at the neraida bungalows we had an excellent week (not long enough)met many very friendly locals, some of the restaurants were not quite open for the season, but all the rest that were, served great food and the service was excellent in the 12 we tried.
It was a good relaxing break with a very freindly atmosphere.
all the reps we had did an excellent job, allthough they did have some minor complainers, its a shame as they are only doing their job.
ALL THE BEST TO ANDREAS NERAIDA BAR YAMAS

Brian D

any good places in Alikanas for exchanging cash

David

there is at least 1 ATM in Alikanas and 2 in Alikes

Helen W

Not may ATM's as far as I can remember, think you will be better
taking travellers cheques aoife.

Janette B

Anyone stayed at Letsos Aparthotel?. Are they OK? i.e. clean etc., This is my first visit to Zante, but my husband has been before. We have been to numerous greek islands, mostly the quieter ones and hope Zante meets our expectations, not too much noise, but just enough!!
