We got back at the begining of August, the 11th to be precise and we just cant get it out of our heads.  Everything about our holiday there was out of this world.  Just wanted to tell people about a few people who made the holiday that much better than any one we've been on before.

The staff especially Vicky and Photis owners of the Hotel Clio, what a welcome, kevin and Stuart of Dionisos tour,(sorry about the spelling),Fantastic people.  For the best food try the Palm Beach II. believe me the food in there is to die for.

Going to book again for next year because it made that much of an impression on us.  The attached [pic. is from the Palm Beach looking out at Kefalonia at about 9:30pm.

Laura M

i went to alykes in may, we enjoyed it so much we are going back in september, it was a fantastic holiday the very best. what else can i say?

David C

Just got back from Alykes with my wife & 6 yr old Daughter.. We stayed at the Maria Apartments & had a fantastic time. The locals are friendly.....Take plenty of cash as the 1 & only cashpoint isn't reliable...Plenty of shops & Restaurants to try..Try the train ride, cracking good fun.......Alykes is a freindly family resort , the only negative is the Salt flats which are smelly & an eyesore,..but otherwise it is typical greece....

David T

just to say if you want the best and quietest holiday on zakynthos go to alykes. this will be our 20th. year. we.ve always stopped at the beach house/virago and have had a great time every time. hated coming home every time. last year went for 3 weeks in sept/oct and had a fabulous time.the golden dolphin(beach front) was open again and we were well looked after by paula and jon and the boys. are they still there? I know they were returning to uk for xmas 2005, but were going back.good nights also on trainaki greek night.

Kate A

I have been going to Alykes for the past five years and i never get bored of it. It's beautiful, the peolple are lovely, get restuarants etc. LOVE the beach. It supplies the perfect back drop for a relaxing hloiday and i can't wait to go back there again this year.

And there is a local taxi srvice you just have to ask either the owner of the hotel or appartments you are staying in or if you fancy a laugh there is always the horsey taxi's.

Marshia S

Alykes is in our opion the best place in the world for a holiday. Enough night life but not to much, excellent restaurants and bars. The friendliest people you can find. Definately the best beach. We  are probaby biased having married there last year after ten years of visiting!

In reply to the enquiry below, there are plenty of taxis available in Alykes night or day. You hail them like we do here in England, but dont be surprised to share with someone you dont know. There are also buses four times a day into Zakynthos town, although the last one back is rather early at about 15.00 hrs.

Yvonne W

I am going to Alykes in the summer and have read that there are no local taxi services. Can anyone confirm this as I was hoping to get a taxi to Tsillivi at some point. Thanks

Derrick M

We have been to Alykes 8 times in 5 years and we are going back in June 2005 we have stayed in self catering all over Alykes and find them very good we have stayed in the Astoria hotel 3 times and find it fist class for food the rooms are very clean and well looked after best places to eat out are the ZORBA run by a Greek lad that is married to a girl called Debbie from the north of England and the Picadilly best bars are Costas on the beach for great snacks and cheep drinks and a good laugh excellent sevice then there is my best friends bar the EXOTICA run by YANNIS great guy great music best time to go is at night the beach is excellent for kids and there is another little bar on the beach called THE BAR WITH NO NAME run by Dennis a Canadan Greek another great guy all in all ALYKES is a great place to be all the people are frendly.

Just booked the Hotel Clio in Alykes, wanted to know if anyone's got any info on the place, never been to zante before but reading the reviews it seems I've struck it lucky going to Alykes. Ta Martin

Steve O

well myself and helena went to zante last june for 2 weeks. My self am a fussy holiday maker but once settled in at the Golden dolphin aprt in alykes. I fell in love with this peaceful place a five min walk away from the slow relaxing pace of the town its a great place to visit the pools are clean and the red vodka is great and i miss it lol. a big hello to the staff at all the bars cant wait to come back a again. well done to greece for euro 2004 thanks to you guys u made our holiday

Ray W

Six of us have just returned home after a week at The Golden Dolphin Studios. They were basic but clean and had substantial savings in free air conditioning/sunbeds and pick up from and to the airport.
Over a Cafe/Bar right on the beach run by Jon and Paula we had breakfast and lunch in there every day and it was a pleasure to do so. It is their first season and we all agree they will look back on it as a great success. Jon works quietly in the background doing the cooking and looking after the bar whilst Paula greets and serves everyone with great zest and enthusiasm. She has a very infectious and cheerful personality and looks after every need however small for all her customers.
I am sure we will be returning, as will many others who were welcomed and made to feel at home by Jon and Paula. Good luck to them and may they have a long and fruitful future in Zante.

Beverley V

Just got home from 2wks in Alykes, pronounced ali kez. weather perfect,Maria appartments very good although strongly recommend that you hire Moped as its a bit of a walk to shops /bars.we went to Laganas to Dive with Euro Divers. IT IS NOT :THE: EURO DIVERS.We were both sea sick on the boat and it was not very well organised, they probably should not have gone ahead with the dive. Also took the ferry to Kephalonia and spent the day there, beaches alot better. Also rode around the island to visit other resorts generally good however, there are other prettier islands in Greece. PS.Anyone visiting shortly, please say Hi to Trev at Toms Place from the girls.

Saffron D

I would like to respond to Karen's message about the Red Lemon bar in Aykes. I worked there this summer and none of the staff remember this incident. I am very sorry if you had a bad encounter with a local bloke but this is no reflection on the bar. The Red Lemon bar is a very nice bar and Julie, who runs it would not have any trouble in the bar if she was there. There are always going to be blokes who come on to British girls- such is the nature of the holiday culture!I have lived in Alykes for 5 years and I have never known any girls on holiday to be attacked or have any problems walking home late etc. There is always someone to look out for you. The Red Lemon bar has many happy and regular customers and Julie and Yanni are great fun so please don't let this letter prevent anyone from enjoying this beautiful rooftop bar.By the way it has plenty of Policemen who patronise it so I'm sure they would have been on hand if anything serious had happened!

Stephen C

Following on from April 2004(also please look at Panos Studios for update) Our dog Lucy we were due to have flown over from Zante in October 2004 which should have been March 2004 but a blood test was not taken and we had to wait until October 2004 for another 6 months
has died of a heart attack. She was found lying on the floor of the kennels in Zante 6 weeks before we were due to collect her which is terrible news as I was looking forward to her coming over. But at least the money we paid made sure she had a excellent quality of life for the last 10 months of her life. But of cause I would have rather of had her. We have been offered another dog but i dont think it will be the same. So ends our story.

David S

JUST THOUGHT PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW ALIKES IS ONE OF THE BEST PLACES IV VISITED THE PEOPLE ARE FRIENDLY AND THEIR IS A RELAXED ATMOSPHERE. IF YOU UNLUCKY TO BE STAYING AT THE "AVRA ALIKES STUDIOS" BOOKED THROUGH AIRTOURS/MY TRAVEL IT WAS A DISGRACE WITH NO POOL BAR, NO MINI MARKET,SWIMMING POOL NEVER CLEANED AND MANY OTHER HEALTH A SAFETY ISSUES, PHOTOS SENT TO HOTELS FROM HELL (AIRTOURS H/OFFICE)AS THE 60 YR+ OLD REP WAS NEVER INTERESTED: THE BEECH 8/10
WATCH OUT FOR THOSE TOE SUCKING FISH, RESTAURANTS: YOU MUST VISIT THE "RELAX RESTAURANT" 10/10 TRIPS:"BLUE DOLPHIN EXCURSIONS" 10/10

Amy G

also shoutld mention costa's snack bar, just off the beach. spent alot of time there, cheapest drinks we found and costa himself is lovely! helping us speak greek, he was a star!

Amy G

this is the first time wed been to alykes and we loved it.
it wasnt too busy and considering we were there at the height of the season it was virtually empty. all the people were friendly and i loved it.
Id suggest the little bar just off the main road, just back from cheers bar, its called the art cafe bar and its lovely, cheap drinks and free pool and internet for children. The best places to eat are skippys (not very greekly named but fantastic food and company) and the paradisiako on the road to alikanas.
this place is fantastic.

Gary & Pat

our second visit to alikes and a brilliant holiday. excellent beaches and plenty of places to eat and drink. no clubs (thank god). when you spend 12 hours a day in a factory this place is heaven.

Karen C

On a family holiday my sister and I were attacked in The Red Lemon Bar while the staff looked on - The men are like animals and have no respect for women. So I would recommend it to be avoided at all costs. Also there was constant noise from motorbikes all day long which ruined the serenity somewhat

Christine R

We have been going to Alykes on & off since 1988 we just love the place great people, favourite places to eat are Denni, olympic, apollo,& zorbas. favourite bars are heatwave ,whispers, virago & apollo pool bar.

B A

To Fran Hunter - Yes you do need a kettle and the pool is great, as is the beach only yards away

Lucie H

I'm going back to Alikes in a week. It will be my 8th time there in the last 3 years. The place is amazing! The Beach is great, The locals are very friendly I would reccomend the Paporo Restaurant for Excellent food and Service. The sugar Bush Bar, Enigma, Exotica Bar, Jungle Bar are all great and hello to 'D'at the Pothos, See you in a week!

Richard B

Stephen C

Sorry I just realised its a woman below!

Stephen C

just a quick note to the people we met in october last year staying at the panos studios. we were due to pick up lucy in two weeks time but the trainer/boarder forgot to take a blood sample.we now have to wait until october 2004.
to the bloke below i found when i stayed in the panos i had to use a pan on the stove with bottled water.my stomach can take anything but the salt water will kill you after two cups.you can buy anything in the shops close by. i might have my dates wrong but if euro 2004 is on youll have a great time there are some great bars that show football. if thats your thing i watched a couple of a**enal for my sins.enjoy

Fran H

any one stayed at the paradise? my partner and me are going on the 1st july 2004, will we need a kettle? and whats the pool like
thaks

David

yes mate you will be ok for nappies and all the other baby stuff

Richard O

i am taking my 11 mth old baby and i was wondering if anyone noticed if the local supermarket sold baby food and nappies

Phil H

For anyone staying in Alykes this year, make sure you visit Vassilis at the "Yria Cafe Bar" and while you are there, ask him "Where is the music coming from!" Phil & Sal.

Richard O

Stayed at Akis in 2002 and they had fridges in the room enjoyed it very much as well great resort especially if you dont like too much nightlife just great restaurants and nice people.

Sarah L

just got back from my second holiday in zante where we stayed in alykes again. i think it is a nice place to get to know the locals and to chill out with my friends. i was very impressed with the red lemon bar as i think the owners julie and yianni are fab cant wait to be back next year and see you all again!
only been home a day or two but i am missing the people and the weather already!!

love sarah xxxx

Clare P

we came back from alykes last wednesday, we all had a great time.. the beach was fantastic for children, gently shelving and sandy. lisa and lydia at the palm tree snack bar were very friendly as was freddie from the alykes watersports.you must go to montes and try some of their cakes and pastries..mmmm delicious!!by far the best place to eat in alykes is the vineleaf great food (including proper chips) and lovely staff.the couple that run the alykes park shop were very helpful even giving us lessons in greek.. if you venture into alykanas the best place to eat is the great dane (aka the original pie shack or toms place) the nightlife is very low key at this time of the year but probably buzzing more in the height of the season.

Chelsea J

loved it in alykes best bar is definately iris bar. exotica bar is by far the worst dont recomend it to anyone!!!!!!!!!

Sam C

2nd entry by the Cockcroft's. We thought everything was excellent. The computer put average! Snorkelling by the concrete jetty was brill!!

Sam C

My Wife, son & I stayed at the Pothos Appts for 2 weeks in August 2003. It was well into the 40's(c) most of the time but we had a great time relaxing by the excellent pool & bar. The atmosphere was very friendly and the owners Dennis & Dimitri (brothers) were very helpful & accomodating. Would definately go back.

Andrew C

Stayed at Villa Pouliezos, just past the bridge. What brilliant accomodation. Great Location on the beach, the sea was safe for the children. Nightlife just what the family wanted. Would recommend this holiday to everyone.

Emma W

Stayed at AKIS STUDIOS - lovely pool!

Amanda H

The resort of Alykes offers spectacular mountain scenery on a coast, the beach is superb, and the sea warm and shallow, which is ideal for children.the Alykes watersports are fun, the ringos are the best value for money, but you will be sore the next day.
The resort is low key, with a plenty of restaurants and bars. Most restaurants offer the same menu, and the prices for the drinks, which are expensive, are all approximately the same in all the bars.
There are few pavements and some vehicles drive too fast on the narrow, unlit roads.
There are not many shops, for those whom want to shop to they drop.
This resort is ideal if you are looking for rest and relaxation, in a beautiful climate.
Enjoy your holiday, we did!

Sheila W

Having been to zante for the last 10 years i dont think i could possibly think about going to any other island. We have been to alikes for 6 of those years .We returned this year in june.As we usually go with young children we find this is the best time to go. the beach and sea are very safe even for the small ones.We used Skippys restaraunt this year and it was great.Good food and very nice people.the owner speaks faultless english as he was bought up in australia so he has an aussie accent. Also recomend the olympic or Bobbys as it is known. If you are going to Alykes have a good holiday

Kelly S

Zante was my first trip to a greek Island and our first holiday together, Alykes is a good resort for couples. We found an excellent restuarant in the middle of the strip of bars/eating places called ZORBA'S, the prices are very good around 15 Euro's for 2 main meals, bread and large bottle of mineral water and the food was great, we went to eat there four nights out of seven, I would recommend trying the Chicken Giro's, Chicken Souvlaki and the Kleftico (Lamb).
We ate at Relax which was nice but not as nice or as cheap as Zorba's.
We also tried the chinese which was nice but very expensive.
The drinks are VERY EXPENSIVE at all the bars and restaurants, even the soft drinks are expensive.

Andrew R

Amy, if it's the Apollo Apt's near the Virago Bar you will be approx 5 mins to the centre of Alikes and 3 mins to the beach. Brilliant location, have a good time.

Andrew Roberts (staying at Beach House 1 from 17th Aug 2003)

Amy L

going to alykes in august with my boyfriend am staying in the apollo studios, just wondered if it is a central location and the best places for evening entertainment.

Nicki R

We have got back from Alikes on 16th July and had an excellent holiday.

We found the food really reasonable but the drinks were quite expensive in some of the bars, the local beer Mythos is lovely. I would definitely recommend the Relax restaurant and also Olympic both were great with really friendly staff.

I would be careful who you hire a car from as some of them look like they are falling apart, we did see some in a ditch because the coach drivers are a law unto themselves!!

We had a great time and would definately recommend it.

Linda F

I am visiting Alykes in August and wondered if anyone can tell me how good it is? I am staying at the panorama apartments. What is the beach and nightlife like? Is car hire cheap also? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
Lindy Lou

Happy Holidays!!

Paula M

My firend is just back from Crete and has said that it has got very expensive compared to past years. Can anyone say if they have found the same in Zante? It will be my first time on the island.

Andrew R

Can anyone confirm the rumours that a “FUN FAYRE” is to be built on the salt flats?

Thanks for any info,

Andy

Hayley B

I got back from staying at the Andreas Studio's in Alykes yesterday.
The appartments are lovely and clean and Yannis amd Angie, who run the resort are lovely people.

The pool is clean and the resort itself is quiet, if you are looking for somewhere to stay, I would recommend these appartments.

We were approx. 10 mins walk away from the town, and the best places we found to eat were..... Olympic, Zorba's and Relax.

The Iris Bar, which is a nice little bar run by Tina and Nikos is great, we spent many a night in there.

One piece of advise I will give you though is not to book any excursions through Thomsons themselves, the are much cheaper in the town. I recommend, if you do book with Thimsons, the Jeep Safari... it was excellant....

Richard W

answer to martyn hill, alykes has a hotel called the astoria,(we stayed here)the hotel is excellent, food, people, who own it,and great resort.look in on whispers bar,(nikos&antonia)the iris bar(tina, nikos&sakis)and many more for great nights out.
richard&jo(newcastle)

Martyn H

Going to Alykes on June 15,it is my first visit to Zante.I am staying at the Panos studios, are they close to the centre.

Jade B

I am looking for a Hotel in Zante near to the the Koukounarie Hotel which is in Alykes... I have a flight booked for 6 Aug 2003 and would appreciate any help as soon as possible.. THANX

Alan K

To Andrew Carrington - We went to Villa Pouliezos last year, & it was so good we're going again this year. The apartments were reasonably basic, but you get all the essentials - hot shower, 2 ring cooker, fridge. Very clean, owners totally friendly & helpful; you go out your door (no key, not necessary!) and you're 15 yds from excellent beach. (Maybe less this year due to erosion!) Ideal if you've 2 kids under 7, but there are lots of nice bars too, fortunately not too noisy.

Karen M

Hi we are a couple who are thinking of going to Zante this July,we would like somewhere not too noisy but with some nice resturants, bars for the evening, nice beach and comfortable apartment or maybe half board hotel, any suggestions please would be gratfully recieved.

Andrew C

I am staying at Villa Pouliezos in Aug 2003, has anyone else stayed there, or know information about it. The WEb page makes it sound great, but i want to know the real truth.

thanks

Anna S

Sorry! Me again! Just to correct the one I wrote before...i meant to put Nikos Apartments not Nikos Studios! Nikos is such a lovely guy! Shows you lots of tricks at the bar!

Anna S

I went with my boyfriend as a last holiday away together before I went to university. We had a fantastic time. Alykes is a gorgeous place and we stayed at Nikos Studios so the location was perfect, just near the hills but near enough to the resort centre. Best holiday EVER! Lovely atmosphere, friendly people and the excursions were brilliant. I would highly recomend it to couples and families who want a break from it all! Fantastic!

Kim B

Good place to take toddlers: Safe beach. At least two bars in town with safe play areas so you can have a drink while they are entertained. Mini train and horse and carraige rides. Not typically Greek or pretty like other Islands and resorts but good food and great weather and a short flight/transfer time compared to other parts of Greece.

Marcus W

Just spent the best week of the year in Alykes. Not many shops but plenty of tavernas,Wonderful beaches and places to visit.Locals extremely friendly.Best holiday ever. Marcus,Ruth & three kids.

Diana S

Hi - sorry to trouble again - am off on the 28th to Elpida Apartments and two things spring to mind 1) How are the Mosiquitos at this time of year in resort in your experience? 2) Do we need to take towels and loo roll REALLY? Never have had to anywhere else in the world self catering before...but happy to if definate necessity. Please ither post here or email me on purrsome@aol.com - any info would be much appreciated! Thanks. Di

Roy G

Not the prettiest of resorts but with a great beach, good tavernas and bars, loads of swimming pools open to anyone and friendly locals it is very welcoming. Recommend PEPPAS car hire. Very cheap, good cars and good back-up if you breakdown. Don`t be talked into hiring through the Reps. You pay more and it`s the reps commission!!

Geraldine K

hiya, how far is it from Alikes to Laganas? please email back as soon as possible as i go on holiday on sunday! thanks!

Philippa S

The resort is quiet and unspoilt by tourists. If you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday, this is the place to come! There isn't alot to do in Alykes itself, apart from chill by the pool/beach, but there are loads of very reasonable excursions if you want a change. We had a great time in Alykes and returned home feeling fully rested!

Harley L

WONDERFUL (HOTEL ASTORIA)AND STAFF AT ALYKES. WE WENT 3RD AUG TO 17TH AUG 2001. YOU WILL NOT FIND BETTER ANYWHERE IN GREECE.

Deborah L

WE WENT IN 1999, WE R GOING AGAIN THIS YEAR I JUST HOPE ITS AS GOOD. OCTOBER IS THE BEST TIME, PEACEFUL, STILL WARM - PERFECT!!

Rachel P

We loved Alikes. The beach was great with lots of things to do and there was a lot to do at night and in the day. In the day there were boat trips and the beach and at night there were lots of lovely restaurants especially Zorbas taverna, the Athens taverna, the vine leaf,Athena and also the pie shack. there were horse and carts and lots of great lively bars without being tooloud including Iris, Heatwave & Onar. I would recommend Alikes to everyone It is lovely.

Sara A

This is a very quite resort, nice for couples and families. Night life is low key. A couple of nice bars visited by holidaymakers and locals alike. We stayed at the Hotel Astoria which was a wonderful hotel, the rooms were the nicest I've every had while visiting Greece.
