Alykanas Beach Village

Accommodation in Alykanas

Cindy C          10/10

Hi Corrine

Coach from airport should only take you about 25mins but will depend on how many stops to drop off. We have stayed at Beach Village before you will not be dissapointed. It's brilliant for kids sea very shallow and safe. We were there in Sept last year and had booked for May this year but the tour operator (My Travel) pulled out and they got Thompsons in. We could have booked with them but our holiday would have been almost double in price so we booked next door at Beach Studios, going with family 27th May 07. If you need anymore info feel free to ask

Regards
Cindy

Corrine G

Hi can anybody tell me how far the resort is from the airport? We are booked to go in may and I was just curious as we stayed in Kalamaki last year and that was'nt far at all from the airport which made a very pleasant change having a toddler
Many Thanks

Message for Gloria Choueri re Alykanas Village

Hi Gloria
We have enjoyed a number of great holidays with you at the Alykanas Village but when we went to book our holiday for 2007 we discovered that none of the Irish tour operators are booking Alykanas Village. we would still like to spend our holiday with you and was wondering if there is another way of booking. We tried your website but it will allow 2007 bookings either.
Thanks
Tom Davis

Gloria C

I will be working next year too, at Alykanas Village.  I will be glad to see all my guests again and do the most to make every body happy.  Wish to every one a very happy New Year.

So much better than we expected and true to it's word it was on the beach. There was plenty of room around the pool area's. The resort was quiet, being pretty much the end of season. The apartment was excellent, clean and maid service daily. All the staff were very friendly, especially Spyros, with who we shared quite alot of laughter . The down side is that next season it is to be a Thomson Super Family Resort, but having said that i would possibly go again at end of the season. There are lots of good eating places within easy walking distance, the Poseidon but to name one  and the lovely staff there Anna and Aris. Hopefully will return to the island again if only to meet up with the people we met there.

Diane W

We have just arrived home after a great time in Zakynthos and stayed at the ABV, would like to say hello to Spyros who entertained us in the bar at night.

Nadine D

We stayed here mid Sept and the rooms were basic but ok.  The cleaner who called every day was nice enough.  If you want a quiet time then this is not the place if you don't have kids.
Lots of children even of school age at pools and some very inconsiderate parents with them.

We had our apartment broken into, so if you go, double lock your doors all the time.  The manageress wasn't the most helpful either when we reported it.

Air con is 50 euros for one week and safety deposit box 25 euros.

Wouldn't rush back.

Pam O

Just got back .Been to this hotel before and really enjoyed it so much so I booked to take my husband as my daughter and I enjoyed it so much. Unfortuneately BIG mistake!  VERY noisy and loads of kids! Thought they suppose to be in school end September. All we wanted was a relaxing 2 weeks. Must admit second week MUCH quieter . Still some people do not think of others when they return at 2 o"clock in the morning slamming doors and shouting . Sorry but this hotel will only get worse now as a THOMSON SUPER FAMILY HOTEL.

Lee E

We stayed in the Alykanas Beach Village during the first two weeks of September.  The hotel was very nice and the rooms were spacious and clean.  It wasn't as quiet as expected.  Most nights we were woken up by noisy people returning to their rooms.  Even though we booked the holiday 14 months in advance, we did not get our request of two rooms together with a sea view.  However Gloria (the manager) did manage to resolve this and we changed rooms on the 3rd day of our holiday.  I just wish that the tour operators / hotels could do more to ensure that your requests are granted - particularly if you have booked so far in advance.

The location was superb - and the views breath taking.  We hired a car for 3 days (after a battle with Avis over their poor / unsafe child car seats) and drove around most of the island ... the North is definitely prettier than the South.

The weather was just right - not too hot ... perfect for our 20 month old son and his grandparents.

The Greeky Greek had a no smoking area and fabulous food - would recommend it!  The Lemon Tree was lovely but the best restaurant was Neraida.  This overlooks the beach, serves good food, has live music and they gave us free wine.  Fantastic!  Wish we had gone there every night.

My only complaint about this holiday was the hidden extras.  The Airtours brochure did not specify that a cot would cost extra.  Also the hotel charged 50 Euros for a safe for 2 weeks!  Then Airtours tried to charge us 9 Euros each to pre-book seats on the plane back.  We didn't do this ... and when we checked in - we found that we already had pre-booked seats anyway!  (Think this is because 2 of us are vegetarians - so they pre-book seats automatically.)

Btw - brace yourselves for Zante airport - it's not great!

All in all - would recommend this hotel and island.  Would like to go back but too many other Greek islands to explore.

Alan L

We got back from Alikanas beach apartments last week and we had a fab time. The weather was great and the place was full of families, no scallies nor lager louts. We recommend Greek night on the monday, the food was average but the entertainment was great. Appartments spotless and cleaned daily. Our fave restaurants were Lemon Tree and Dionysos.

Pauline P

Hi Cindy and Karen

I have just emailed Gloria to confirm what bookings she has.  Will let you know what happens!!  I have booked with Thomson for next year - booked over phone not internet - and they were not much dearer per person than Airtours  (less than £40 ) . All this aside it is a fantastic resort and hotel - the beach is brilliant .   Hope you have a good holiday and may see you there ?

Pauline

Cindy C

Why not e-mail Gloria the manager at info@alykanasvillage.gr I sure if she can she will be able to help you. Make sure you mark your e-mail for her attention

Karen S

Hi Pauline,

We are due to go to Alykanas Beach Village on 12th October and have also booked a 2 bedroomed apartment. I had heard nothing from Mytravel but thought I would call them to make sure my booking was OK after I read your post. The story they are telling me is that the owner was supposed to be converting more of the apartments int 2 bedroomed apartments and hasn't done it and they have sold more 2 bedroomed holidays than they have actually got. They have told me that my booking is OK but I am waiting for them to come back and confirm it to me for definite. I don't know what to think. I will be very disappointed if we end up with a studio. Iwould rather know before we go than be disappointed when we arrive.

Karen

Cindy C

This maybe so, I think it is Manos also for 2007 but please be warned, we spoke to Gloria the manager there and it was her who told us they will be with Thompsons next year. It could be like us they will let you book only to tell you at a later date  you can no longer go there and then you may have problems getting your money back.

Cindy C

Just come back from ABV and from next year is Thompsons exclusive!! and double the price. We booked in April this year for May 07 with Manos and found out while were there we wont be able to go now as all the My Travel group which is Airtours Direct Holidays Manos and Panarama have lost their contract with them. We have had to battle with Manos but will be getting our deposit back. Booked next door at Alykanas Beach Studio with Kosmar for next year. I know there have been problems with Kosmar but we want to be right on the beach and we have stayed at the Beach Studios before so we know it's ok and is much the same price we were paying with Manos.

Chloe L

Just came back from our second holiday in Alykanas Village this summer and cant wait to go back nxt year.It was da best fun eva and it is so depressing 2 b home Both the weather and the people were FABULOUS

Corrine G

hi rose, in answer to your question re weather in may we always go to greece these 2 weeks, we have been in halkidiki and had 1 weeks of rain and other week hot went to corfu last year and was lovely we have a young baby and it was ok for her, went to Zante this year lovely and warm but we did also have 4 day heat wave which was very hot but you could get out of it. hope this gives you some help!!! we are booked to go back to zante may next year- corrine

Judith O

Been to Alykanas for the last 2 years & absolutely love it. Booked a year in advance both times with Direct Holidays .Tried to book again for next May 07 only to find it is now a Thomson Superfamily with a price increase of £800 for our family of four!! I am absolutely gutted as I can't afford that sort of price increase and will now have to holiday elsewhere unless someone knows of another tour operator who go there as Direct Holidays have now stopped for some reason!!

Carol M

Hi Thinking of going to the ABV next year. Whats the nightlife like at the apartments?

Lauren S

Hi we have come back from Greece a few weeks ago and it was the best holiday ever! The hotels rooms were excellent and the pools were cold but brilliant for children ( being them ourselves!) and even the adults looked like they were enjoying them. The Alykanas Village beach bar was excellent though the entertainment could have been better. The staff were friendly and helpful, especially Landy who works in the beach bar. Say hi to him if you pass!

Christie (age 10) and Lauren (age 12)

Adrienne O

Just back from a 2 week hols in Alykanas Village Apt Hotel.  Absolutely amazing.  We had a Studio apt and there were 2 adults and 2 children, plenty of room.  Very clean, fabulous staff, fantastic people.  Booking to go back next year.  Definitely a piece of heven on earth.  Watersports brilliant, Restraunts brilliant except Dionisos (skip that one, everyone we spoke to had bad experience).   Grin So Depressed to be back.

RE:About Transfers to Alykanas Beach Village. Alykanas is a lovely small inviting resort it took us about 15 minutes to get there by taxi. Adele.

Corrine G

Hi In answer to Kat and russ question I have booked to go next year through Thomson as its going to be there new thomson super family next year! got a really good deal as well went to kalamaki this year in thomson family (not super family) and it was wonderful but very spoilt as it waas so close to airport and everywhere else we have been(or wanted to go to) has been 2 hour transfer from airport and only being just down from the airport with a 2 year old makes life alot easier.

Cindy C

I believe The Beach Village are with Thompsons next year, we are going 31 Aug, have been before, great place. Also booked to go back next May

Teresa L

these were the best holiday apartments weve stayed in ideal location, just a pity there wasnt any entertainment at night.we would love to go back next year but i believe its not available to airtours and panorama w'ere very disappointed.my 14 year old son and cousin particulary enjoyed the water sports

Kat & Russ

Re Corrine Godfrey's question. By coach the transfer takes about half an hour so I would reckon on about 20-30kms. Hope this helps.

Kat & Russ

Can anyone advise whether they have been able to book for 2007 yet, and if so through which tour operator?

Aileen M

We are thinking of going to the Alykanas Beach Village next year. We are myself, hubby and 16 year old daughter and 13 year old son. Would a studio for 4 or 5 be big enough for us.

Corrine G

Hi cn anyone tell me how far away from airport apartments are ? please see below! Thks Corrine

Lynne S

We returned from alykanas beach village last thursday (10/8/06). The apartments were as the holiday brochure stated, they are very clean and tidy, ample for 2 adults and 1 child.

Debi M

We returned from here last Thursday.  The appartments are lovely.  We had a 2 bed roomed apartment which was spacious and comfy.  The staff were lovely and the place kept very clean.  It is right on the beach meaning that you have a choice of beach or pool without having to walk too far.  The only complaint that we would have is the reserving of sunbeds still goes on despite the notices and the letter handed to you on arrival telling you not to do it before 9am.  The maids did take off the towels, if they had been left unattended, but people were going out at 7.30am and sitting on the beds to reserve them, then clearing off after 9am leaving their towels on them.   On our first day we were surprised to find all the people outside our appartments in the evening trying to pursuade you to go to their restaurant and offering you a free ride on a horse and carriage.  Although it was annoying to start with, we got used to it and just walked past, but did use the horse and carriages on some days.  The kids loved it.  We went on several trips and booked them all with Tony at Dionios Tours that you walk past just outside the hotel.  The tours were very reasonable and well organised.  Do go on the train tour to the mountains.  You then get the chance to book a greek night at the same taverna on a Saturday night.  It is was the best night ever and we will always remember singing all the way back down the mountain on the train afterwards.  None of the other greek nights we saw were anything like it.  Spiros really makes sure that you all enjoy it.  Wine is plentiful.

Lauren H

Also, completely unrelated but sorry, I have tried to register to be able to join in with the message boards but I don't get the activation email. Have even tried opening a new email address and it still doesn't work. Thought I'd ask on here although nothing to do with it but there doesn't seem to be any help on the website regarding this.

Lauren H

Should have done this one! Please read comment below... (Didn't mean someone got their safety deposit box ripped out here by the way, just something I read about what had happened to someone else!)

Lauren H

We are due to visit this complex in September, just looking for some advise.

First of all, it seems a stupid question but, does the complex have "english" sockets or do you need to take some sort of converter?

Also, what did people take for currency? We got stung a bit when we went away last year with travellers cheques and the extra you have to pay to exchange them and realise you can withdraw money for free via Nationwide. Know there are safety deposit boxes but seems a bit tight that you have to pay for them considering they are for your peace of mind so don't know whether to bring cash? Read somewhere that someone got burgled and the whole safety deposit box got ripped out the wall and stolen which makes me paranoid!!

Finally, we are travelling as a couple, no kids or anything. We like to go out for a meal and then a couple of drinks afterwards, where do people think is the best place to go? Seen lots of recommendations but mostly from people with kids...

Thanks for your help people!

Sarah T

Great place to stay - highly recommend it.   Very clean - people friendly.   Beach clean and safe.   Plenty of water sports.   Horse drawn carriages take you to the restaurants you want to eat at - recommend The Greedy Greek - great food, friendly atmosphere - free Greek Night on Sat!   Transfer time from the airport only about 20 minutes.  Say Hi to Landy the Pool Barman from Hollie!   We're def going 2007!!

Enjoy!

Corrine G

Hi can anybody give me some information we have booked to go next may to Alykanas beach village (which we are very much looking forward to already after reading all the reviews plus next year it will be a thomson super family) this year we stopped in kalamaki, how long is the transfer time to the apartments from the airport? and is it easy to get taxis to visit other villages ? how far away is kalamki or lagnas from Alykanas.

Thanks for your help - Corrine 09/08/06

Michael T

thanks gloria for you response,in regard to building work in your apartments,we were dissopointed by airtours comments,as it seems they lied.we booked a 2 bedroom apartment, now they are offering a 1 bedroom apartment due to the reasons i stated before,we have accepted this option as we had a great holiday last year,we just hope we get a ground floor apartment as we have young children,1 out of 2 would be nice.

Sarah

anyone who comes to this hotel will have a fantastic time here and in the resort i can asure you it is very safe here and you can go outside without problems. the kids club runs daily sessions morning afternoon and evening and the mytravel party night on sunday is not to be missed.

Gloria C

I can asure you, been the manager of Alykanas Village, no such things going on in our hotel.  It is impossible to do any works during the summer with quests in the hotel.  This hotel for the last five years had some 1bed apartments.  Please, do come out for your holidays without any doubts about our hotel such as works and safety for you and your family not only in our hotel but all around this area Alykes and Alykanas are good and safe for families.  For the last three months lots of people visited our hotel without any problem none so ever.

Bernie C

just tried to book these apts for 2007 through airtours/direct holidays, they are no longer available through them, only available with thomson holidays now with a substanial increase in the price!

Michael T

our holiday was booked a year in advanced,30th of august 06.airtours called yesterday to say there was a problem, because refurbisment was not complete on the 2 bedroom apartments, and have offerd us a one bedroom apartment and £300,i dont no weather to belive this as it seems unlikley in peak season, can any one help us with this,is there any refurbisment been carried out

Gloria C

There are irons and hairdryers at the reception upon request without charge.

Cathy W

As far as I know there are not hairdryers and irons.

Helen S

Could anyone tell me if the ABV apartments have irons or hairdryers to save me packing them unnecessarily, thanks.

David

Amanda, maybe you could tell us HOW you know this. I strongly suspect the rumours are started by the owners of the complex to keep you there day and night.

Sonia

The area of Alykes/Alykanas is very safe, just exercise the usual caution you would anywhere else.  I've been holidaying in Alykanas with just myself and my daughter (aged 7 in 1995), and now on my own, since 1995 and have never been worried in the slightest about my safety.  There appear to be lots of malicious rumours circulating at the moment which are totally unfounded.

Go to Alykanas and enjoy yourselves and please don't just stay in the hotel "compounds"!!!!

If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.

Cathy W

Hi Amanda

I'm sorry but I have never heard such a load of rubbish.  Who is supposed to be taking children?  The resort is really safe.  I am sick to death of people streading rumours about this beautiful island.  Your children are more likely to be abducted in the UK.

Amanda H

Hi there, Just wanted to ask if you have been here how you feel regards the safety of your children. I have never been to Greece before and have been told that children are going missing all the time through gangs selling them on the black market. This worries me as I have 2 young children and thought this hotel looked perfect.
Can anyone reasure me about this. I would really appriciate this.as I know this can happen any where int he world.

Pamela A

These apartments are of a fantastic standard and I would recommend them to everyone, especially families (but not teenagers). They are bright and modern and very clean - by far the best accommodation I have ever had in Greece. We were lucky enough to have a sea view with the swimming pool underneath and the strip of beach a few yards beyond, so there was never far to walk (and believe me, you don't want to walk far in that heat!).

The swimming pool is large and very safe for young children and never became too busy. Getting a sunbed was occasionally a problem and I felt that some people left their towels there all day and never used them, which is irritating. The sea is also lovely and warm and safe for young children, the price of 2 sunbeds and a brolly being 7 Euros per day.

The poolside cafe/restaurant served lovely meals at a reasonable price and the staff were friendly. Although our room was above it, the noise was minimal (except on Greek night!) and it always finished at midnight.

I did not send my kids to the Childrens Club because it was extra cost and the times it was running seemed to be irregular and did not suit me (it seemed to be mainly mornings). However, you will find there is so much to do and such great facilities that they will never have time for the kids club.

If you are staying here this summer then you are very lucky and I am sure you will not be disappointed.

Hannah M

Lauren T

Hi,

We've just returned from a week's holiday at the Alykanas Beach Village (having first turned up to the other apartments) and it was fabulous. I'm still a bit confused as to which apartments are which but these are the ones booked through the MyTravel Group (Direct Holidays, Panorama, Aspro etc).

The rooms were large and kept very clean by the staff. The pool area was fantastic, especially the pool by the beach which was a bit less crowded. The snack bar was surprisingly good value and the food of a really high standard, try the calamari and seafood spaghetti.

The restaurants in Alykanas are OK, the food's pretty much identical in every restaurant and so are the prices. We paid on average €35 euros for a 2 course meal for 2 each night including wine, water and beer so it's good value.

The only slightly annoying thing was the way everyone reserves sunloungers very early but a lot of people never seem to turn up to them. I would guess that later in the season this could be a real problem unless you're up very early!

I would recommend this complex to anyone and if I wanted to go back to Zante i'd definitely give this place another visit.

Sarah A

We have only just got back from our weeks holiday staying at the alykanas beach village, and it was our best holiday yet!!!

It is mostly a family orientated resort with no nightclubs around. Yet we are both 20 and it was great fun relaxing in all the tavernas and there are plenty of bars offering great cocktails.

These apartments should be 5*!!! They were great: large, spacious, modern and a massive marble bathroom!! All apartments have a pool or beach view which means eatting breakfast on the balcony is a great way to start the day.

There is 3 pools, one being a volley ball pool which is great fun. The snack bar is also great value for money.

The beach is about 30seconds walk from the complex if that and is a blue flag beach (and is not pebbly). We hired out jet skis on the beach, they were 40 euros for 15mins, which is quite expensive but is a memorable expereience.

Air conditionning is a must as we had a heat wave and the temp rose to 47c.

So glad to hear you are still there Gloria.

Ian W

We have been to Alykanas beech village for the last 3 years and are going again this year.
If you have young children and want a lovely peaceful break you do not get many teenagers due to the fact there are no night clubs in Alykanas or Alykes.  The sea is warm and you can just let the kids go in without worry as they can go out 50 feet before it gets deep and the fish swim right benath you.  If you want to get there cheep try Magic Break you offer we cant be beaten on price or £250 of your next holiday book it then use Direct holidays who are cheeper then the following year you get the £250 pound off.

The local resturants are offer very good food and if you like Steak Pie Toms place is unbeatable.

The staff at Alykanas Beech Village are very friendly and the manager Gloria is will do anything to help.

Heather S

Hi just want to say I have just come back from Zante and my sister booked the wrong hotel the studios and aprtments was awful, really noisey at night, we started getting worried when we were told that there was no nightclub in the area but our hotel was used for evenings entertainment, if you want a quiet place to stay please don't choose the beach studios and apartments, I would rather have bad the extra and not had music and shouting etc til 1-2'ish in the morning.

Cathy W

Hi Malcolm. Maybe Going Places are the cheapest at the moment but not when I booked!!!!!!!

Paul M

ABV is Airtours or Direct Holidays only- book by Direct Holidays abd save at least £300 on a family of 4 over 2 weeks. We stayed in 2004 and are back again this September- it is the best package holiday apartments you will get on the island with stunning sea views or mountain views etc etc etc..see the link to there own website-you can even book direct with them and get your own flights and save even more money- i recommend it 100%....we are taking the in laws this year- thats how good it is!!

Cathy W

These are two separate complexes.  Alykanas Beach Village and Alykanas Beach Studios & Apartments.  They are very close in location and are both on the beach.  I believe you book the Beach Studios & Apartments through Kosmar.  I have never stayed at the Beach Studios but they look very nice and are in a great location.  If you read the comments on the data base it will provide you with more information about them.  Yes the beach is wonderful.  Lovelly golden sand and clear shallow water.  Great for families with young kids.  Both of these complexes are very close to the main street of the village where you will find a good selection of restaurants and bars.  Hope this helps.

Cathy.

Lee L

I have been reading the comments fot the Alykanas Beach Village (ABV), Zante and hope someone can clarify whether there is an Alykanas Beach Apart-Hotel(ABA) that is different from the ABV. Some comments imply that the ABA is better. If they are different does anyone know who I can book the ABA with, since I have only found the ABV in the brochures. Are there sea view rooms? Also is the beach a lovely white sandy beach, good for young children? Thanks

We stayed at the ABV in late October and we had an excellent time.

Rooms were spacious and had all the essential necessities.

The pools were very clean, very cold, but very clean!

The food in the complex was also very good, we never had a bad snack there.

And of course the staff are always friendly and pleasant.

Hoping to go back sometime next year, possibly in the summer this time.

Thanks to all on this notice board who gave us all the information we needed before we went.

Hi to everybody - we are due to go to A.B.V in October this year for the 3rd time and have already booked to go again next October - (have family connections in Alykanas ).  Have family of 2 young girls who have a really good time - rooms are very clean, staff very friendly and all round we have a fantastic holiday. Early October weather was hot for 10 days - we did have rain for 4 days - but still swam in sea, which is very calm and beach is very clean.  Hope you all have great holidays.

Laura M

Hello, just arrived back yesterday, these apartment are great, we had a very relaxing holiday., the apartment was nice and  spacious and clean , the pool here was fantastic for kids as it is shallow, there is also a deeper pool for the bigger kids and  volley ball pool.  The snack bar is really good, the staff here are friendly and helpful, the resort is quiet but not to quiet loads of bars and restruants to choose from. Drinks in the bar are more expensive than in the resort but it's nice to have a night cap there. The mini market is good but there are lots in the resort. If you go here on holiday i am sure will have a relaxing time, we have been to greece the last three years and loved it everytime.

Tina

Hotel and staff were great. Everything was clean and tidy. Food was good and always served with a smile and very friendly staff. Loved the beach pool, a great breeze from the sea.

THINK TWICE BEFORE YOU BOOK EXCURSIONS WITH THE REPS, AS NOT ONLY ARE THEY EXPENSIVE BUT WHEN THINGS GO WRONG THEY DONT HAVE ANY AUTHORITY TO PUT THEM RIGHT, AS WE FOUND OUT ON OUR BOAT TRIP ON THE FIRST MONDAY OF OUR HOLS, ALL PARTYS ON THIS EXCURSION HAVE MADE A SERIOUS COMPLAINT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lovely time we had and met some great people, the children had a great time and also met some lovely friends.SmileClap

hi ian, there are loads of pubs/clubs with sat tv, so don't worry you won't miss your a**enal games. i just come back from the abv 2 days ago and there was no escaping the football, where ever you went it would be on. so don't panic.we stayed in the alykanas beach hotel and you get a perfect view over the sea but thats only if your hotel is by the snack bar. i hope i answered your q's. & i hope you enjoy as much as i did in the abv.

hi all, we are off to abv next month & would like to know where the best apartments are located with views over the sea. where best to eat traditional greek food (i have read most comments on the local tourist places), away from the main drag. where to find the e-mail address, so that we can contact direct.

are there any pubs with sat tv, i would not want to miss any of the a**enal games whilst i was away. any like-minded fans interested, we are travelling on the 18th september for 2 weeks, i need additional support as the other half might not let me watch the games (but she usually does after a few drinks).

many thanks in advance........ian & libby
