Mike   (27 January 2004)

the best you are going to find

George & Eve  (24 October 2003)

We meant we liked it ooops!

George & Eve  (24 October 2003)

We ate here every night and loved it. Great people and great service.

Sammy C  (29 September 2003)

i came to kalamaki and i did sumthing with frankie out of chives, i dnt know if he remembers me bt he looks at me. nevamind.

Trevor M  (14 September 2003)

the view was the only experiance we enjoyed certainly not the food out of 14 meals the one here was the worst rating 1\10 about fair

Liz C  (06 September 2003)

The service was a little slower, probabably due to the stairs, but the food was good and very reasonably priced, and as an earlier comment said you are on your holidays so chill and enjoy the views.

Trevor M  (27 August 2003)

just got back after two weeks in kalamaki and the meal we ate there was the worst we had ate upstairs and the view was great but spoiled by ignorant sulky unpleasant surly staff anyone going take atip eat over the road small resteraunt very friendly and well priced dont waste your euros lining ignorant peoples pockets

Tracy P  (25 August 2003)

We ate downstairs as the roof was pretty full. The food was awful very cold and swimming in grease especially the mixed greek plate . The service was at best luke warm aswell. Perhaps the food tastes better with the view but I wouldn't recommed this place and we didn't go back.

John   (24 August 2003)

Great view and the week started off well with nice food and good service. However we stopped going after some real bad service and food went from nice to so so.

Margaret B  (19 August 2003)

Not the best place in Kalamaki. But you just can't beat the view of the mountains the sunset, the sea, the moon, the stars. So why don't you just sit up there and order a couple of bottles of wine and chat to Frank. Listen to the great chilling out music and just eat Moussaka which is excellent! What else do you need for goodness sake? You are on holiday in a wonderful place!!

Ant H  (30 July 2003)

Felt a bit sorry for the staff on the roof garden. Up and down those stairs all night... no wonder they were all so bleedin' miserable!

Mind you, that big fella looks like he could do with going up and down the stairs a bit more often.

Excellent location, poor restaurant. Fish well overcooked!

Lynne N  (26 July 2003)

Just visited the place last week and as with other comments it was awful, the food cold, service the worst I have ever experienced, and very surly staff. I would never go back to this place, they try to fill all the tables up on the outside so that it looks busy. You know the old saying 'good video shame about the song' this place is 'nice view shame about the resturant'

Caroline L  (22 July 2003)

This is a family run, extremely friendly, overall brilliant restaurant! NOT to be missed on your visit to Kalamaki!
The garden roof is safe for children with the best views of this part of the Island.
Excellent wine list with a variety of choice on the menu.
Totally family friendly, children very welcome. Great atmosphere for the whole family...something for everyone.
Great food at brilliant value.
A MUST for any type of holiday you are looking for. DO NOT MISS!!!

Georgina W  (20 July 2003)

In our 2 weeks in Zante we visited a number of the better restuarants and taverna's. Most are good or excellent. Chives was the only one that managed to ensure that we spent the best part of the next day in bed, feeling sick. It looked very pleasant from the outside, so we had no qualms about adding it to our list.

The service was slow, the staff un-interested, and the food was lukewarm to cold. The only good thing was the location and the view. We had meatballs, souvlaki and a chicken dish.

On leaving, I went to use the toilets, and have to say that they were absolutely disgusting (I didn't use it).

We would not recommend this restuarant to anyone.

John V  (19 July 2003)

why has this resturaunt not got more stars we just kept going back for more kostas & staff always obliging if you want something not exactly on the menu they will suggest something & our food was always delightful try the souvlaki & the moussaka mmmm try the spinach pie starter. my wife is returning in october & says she will just go here every night because knows she will be looked after thanks again kostas FRANK & yiannis

Siobhan H  (29 June 2003)

What a super restaurant!!We went to it five times and had a really beautiful meal. It was delicious! The staff were so friendly and helpful. It is so romantic and has an amazing view. You can see all of Kalamaki and even Laganas from the roof garden. It was very reasonably priced, the food was delicious, and the service was first class. I would definetly say that it is the best restaurant in Kalamaki. When I return to Kalamaki, Chives will definetly be on the top of my list for favourite restaurants to visit. I would definetly recommend you visit and try for yourself. You will be pleasantly surprised!

Clare R  (24 June 2003)

What a disappointment! The pleasant view was it's only saving grace! The food was average at best - fairly typical of Kalamaki - tinned carrots, rice and meat the way it is always done (possibly microwaved!). We celebrated a birthday here - and ordered a romantic Chateaubriand for two (or ChatAWEbriand as the menu said - yeah, yeah, we should have realised!)- we were not asked how we wanted this cooked - but told them we would like it cooked "medium" (it came cooked "well done", and arrived within minutes of completing the starter) - it was also more expensive than I've paid for better versions in London!! The Baklava (as is always the case with this superb greek dessert) was excellent and held a birthday candle very nicely! The wine, as ever, was poured immediately without allowing for tasting - but I'm not sure any waiter in Kalamaki has ever been taught this element of good service, so I wasn't really surprised!!!!

Sarah B  (22 June 2003)

Lovely view, but thats the only good thing. Service was poor and very rushed, and food was indescribable, cold and inedible. Definately would NOT recommend.

Jean R  (06 June 2003)

Visited the rooftop restaurant twice. Lovely views of the planes coming and going. Food was excellent, especially the Zakynthian chicken and pork Krestatas. Meatball starters were delicious. Prices about average.

Julie W  (23 May 2003)

We ate at the roof top restaurant, very good views, food ok but the peppercorn sauce tasted like gravy with ground pepper in. The people at the next table were served their main course before their starters!! Not too bad overall but would not reccomend it.

Mary P  (14 April 2003)

WE WENT LAST YEAR THERE 8 PEOPLE.FOOD WAS GREAT AND CHIVES IS A TOP RESTAURANT .ALL THE GUYS THERE WERE VERY FRIENDLY WITH US AND WE WILL BE THERE SOON.IN 3 WEEKS WE LL VISIT CHIVES AGAIN.

Rach W (06 February 2003)

Got food poisining in Sept 2002!

Ric W  (09 October 2002)

Gorgeous location. Pity about the food and service. This was one of the worst meals we had in two weeks! In fact one of the worst ever! The food was cold and the meat chewy!!Dont bother.

Rob J  (03 September 2002)

great location. food good value and very tasty.

James C  (02 September 2002)

the first time we went to chives we all liked it but the second time we went it was the food was horible and gave us a tummy upset the survice was poor to say the least which is a sham because the location was nice

Samantha S  (19 August 2002)

i dont know why everyone hates this place, me and my family waited untill the last day of out holiday to go to chives restaurtant because it has got a gorgoeus view of everything in kalamaki its absoloutly beyootiful, while i was there the 1st time i went to kalamaki, and the night we went to chives, i saw a fit greek who works there and hes called francesco (franky, spike) i was sat facing him and he kept staring at me, i dint really notice him that much well i did but i was going out with landis so i dint fancy him, i did but i knew i c**t go out wiv him, anywa, when i returned in june 02, i stayed at cavo doro pool and franki wrked there, because hes really really really bubbley, i was walking to the bar to order some breakfast and he walked out of the bar and krept behind me and pulled me and pushed me into the pool, then me and ma friends all pulled him in and nearly every adult around the pool pushed him in when he got back out, harry (lambis) was always very happy and i went with ma mum n dad, ma lil brother, n mum & dads friends and there 2 little daughters (4 + 10) well harry was always babysitting demi (the youngest) when we all was having out food or lyin in the sun ,he really luvs kids. anyway, about 4 days in the 2 weeks holidays my mum was in cavo doro (akis' bar) and ma dad was in cavo doro restaurant (harrys bar) and i told my dad i was siting on the steps near the steps leading to chives rooftop so i could see frankie when he comes up and down the stares, one day he wasnt wrking and he told me he wanted to go for a walk, so we went round a corner to kiss and stuff...then about an hour l8r george from chives hu was wrking (frankies friend) came down the stares and came to where me n frankie was and he said my dad was verry angry and i am in so much trouble, akis is sooch a sweety! he said to me " your daddy + mummy are very angry with you, you better go to them, i hope you wont get in trouble, so i wnt to them i was scared to death and i got sent to my room for the rest of the night then the day after, i had to do everything they told me..i couldnt even look at landis (my boyf) frankie and any of the other greeks who i know. : ( and by the end of the holiday, i think landis thought i didnt love him anymore because my dad was being nasty and told me everytime, i went passed where he works, to not look at him and put my head down, he was always looking on the road for me and ifelt so upset when i found out hes upset that i dont lik ehim no more. i am going back in september 2002 and i cant wait to see landis!!! harry + george(cavo doro pool) akis + george + evryone else in cavo doro bar and evryone in chives: frankie yiannis, george and evry1 else, n sorry if i missed anyone ou :) luv ya xxxxxxxx

Carly D  (04 August 2002)

dont no why everyone hates this place we loved it the view was great the food was cheep, and it was lovly best on the island, the waiters are lovly especially frank i luv him!!!! try it out!

Jane E  (30 July 2002)

Beautiful location, pity about the food! Got up the stairs, and we were queueing to get a seat, good sign I thought. After waiting for around 5 mins, was seated in the centre of the roof, not good as the only lighting was a samll candle and you could not see what you were eating! I think that was the whole idea. I ordered the Logster tail saganaki, and guess what it was full of the preformed fish meat that you can buy in the supermarket shaped like lobster tails, it was ghastly! I thought I'd risk the rigatoni shipwreck,Described as rigatoni pasta in a rich tomato sauce with logster tails, shrimps, prawns mussels, yum it sounded lovely!! When it came, it was a tin of chopped tomato's with tinned, shrimps, mussels, the preformed lobster tails and tinned tuna, I left the lot! They need to get another chef for next year.

Samantha S  (20 July 2002)

I WENT TO KALAMAKI FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OCTOBER. I MET A GORGEOUS BOY CALED LANDIS AND HES A BABE!! HE DIDN'T WORK THEN BUT I JUST CAME BACK FROM MY SECOND HOLIDAY AT THE END OF JUNE I WENT FOR 2 WEEKS AND I ARRIVED THERE ON THE 9TH JUNE 02, LANDIS JUST GOT A JOB IN MERLIS RESTAURANT THE MEAL WAS GORGEOUS SO PLEASE PLEASE DONT DISS IT AND MAKE LANDIS LOOK BAD COS HES MY BOYFRIEND AND HE WORKS THERE AND HES FIT. I TRIED TO PLAY HARD TO GET WITH LANDIS THE FIRST TIME HE KEPT STAIRING AT ME BUT I COULDN'T! HES TOO MUCH A BABE. ANYWAY I AM GOING BACK TO THE SAME PLACE AND EITHER STAYING IN ANTONIS POOLBAR APARTMENTS (WHERE PEDRO WORKS!) I MET PEDRO LAST TIME I WENT AND WE FELL 4 EACHOTHER I KNEW I COULDN'T REALLY GET WITH PEDRO ALTHOUGH HE ASKED ME TO MEET HIM WHEN HE FINISHED WORK COS I LOVE LANDIS BUT NEVERMIND :-) WE WILL STAY THERE OR THE PLACE WE STAYED ON JUNE CAVO D'ORO APARTMENTS WHERE HARRY, ANDREUS AND GEORGE WORK AND WHERE FRANCESCO USED TO WORK ASWELL AS CHIVES RESTAURANT..IF YOU ARE GOING TO KALAMAKI, MAKE SURE YOU GO TO CHIVES RESTAURANT ANY AGE BECAUSE YOU HAVE GOT TO MEET FRANCESCO COS HES SUCH A SWEETY IF YOU DO GO 2 CHIVES, PLEASE TELL HIM 'SAMMY SAID TURN YOUR PHONE ON AND TELL HIM IM COMING BACK TO SEE HIM AND LANDIS AT THE END OF SEPTEMBER 02' DONT PLEASE DONT TAKE HIM OFF ME THOUGH BECOS I LOVE HIM :-) I MET FRANCESCO WE CALL HIM SPIKE BCOS OF HIS HAIR. HE WAS FRIENDS WITH LANDIS, I DIDNT SEE LANDIS FOR A DAY WHEN I GOT TO GREECE AND I MET SPIKE IN CAVO D'ORO POOLBAR AND WE DID STUFF HES WELL GORGEOUS. THEN I FOUND OUT THAT SPIKE WAS FRIENDS WITH LANDIS AND HE CAME TO ME AND SAID 'YOUR BOYFRIEND WAS HERE BEFORE' SO I SAID 'WHOS MY BOYFRIEND' AND HE SAID 'LANDIS' I KNEW WAT HE WAS TALKIN ABOUT COS I SAW THEM TALKING TOGETHER. SO I SAID 'OH' AND HE SAID 'IS HE YOUR BOYFRIEND???' SO I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING BECAUSE I LIKED HIM. SPIKE KEPT ON ASKING ME SO I SAID ' YEAH BUT I LIKE U!' AND HE SAID 'REALLY? YOU LIKE ME?' SO HE SNOGGED ME AND STUFF HAPPENED. AND WHISTLING AT ME! I KNEW IT WAS LANDIS AND HIS FRIENDS I LOOKED AND SMILED. :-) THE DAY AFTER I WET TO ANTONIS POOLBAR TO SEE IF LANDIS WAS THERE COS HE NORMALLY GOES TO SEE PEDRO (THEY ARE FRIENDS TOO) SO I WENT AND HE WAS IN THE POOL WITH ONE OF HIS FRIENDS! HE WAS SAT ON THE EDGE NEAR THE DEEP END AND I WAS GOING TO THE TOILET AND I HAD TO WALK PAST HIM, HE DIDNT SEE ME COME IN ANTONIS SO I WALKED PAST HIM AND PUSHED HIM IN!! THEN HE GOT ME BACK LATER ON. IT WAS TRUE LOVE AND IT STILL IS. THE LAST TIME I WENT (WHEN I MET LANDIS) HE COULDNT SPEAK A WORD OF ENGLISH EXEPT 'HELLO' AND 'BYE' BUT THIS TIME WHEN I WENT, HE WAS HAVING A CONVESATION WITH ME ASKING ME HOW COME I KEEP COMING BACK, AND WHEN HES WORKING AND STUFF LIKE THAT! HE SHOCKED ME. HE SAID HE THOUGHT I WOULD COME BACK SO HE LEARNED ENGLISH FOR ME <3 WHEN I WENT IN OCTOBER, HE GAVE ME HIS JACKET! :-) I CAN'T WAIT UNTILL I GO BACK IN SEPTEMBER. ITS GOING TO BE BRILLIANT IF I SEE LANDIS, SPIKE AND PEDRO AGAIN, THEY REMEMBERED ME THE SECOND TIME I WENT, IM SO SURE THEY WILL AGAIN.

J V  (19 July 2002)

Eating at Chives was the low point of our holiday. Second time at Kalamaki and first and last time we will go to Chives. Food rubbish - over priced for what you get, poorly cooked and the lobster tail saganaki has never seen a lobster tail!!! If you like wasting your money on poorly prepared, sub standard, packet quality food that will make you ill (as my wife was after eating here) go for it - Chives will not disappoint. The sign outside sums up the place - advertising Chives as having excellent views... not a mention of the food - I wonder why?... perhaps this is because this establishment is clearly down there at the bottom when it comes quality cuisine. Alternatively perhaps it is a case of why bother about the food when you have a good view (which wasn't actually that good) Best avoid - there are plenty of other places to eat (some of which offer good quality food and good value for money - not just cheap)

Gary E  (05 July 2002)

Out of all the restaurents in Kalamaki Chives has to be up there with the best. After you've had a hot sundrenched day on the beach or by the pool its realy pleasent being at this rooftop bar whatching the sunset over Laganas and the occasional plane landing in the distance. This along with the excelant food makes it a must place to visit

Samantha S  (27 June 2002)

BEFORE ANY GIRLS THINK IM A SLG FRANCESCO IS MY BOYFRIEND SO STOP ASKING HIM FOR HIS MOBILE NUMBER!! PLEASE! I LOVE FRANCESCO. (SPIKE)..ME AND MY COUSIN WAS GOING FOR A WALK AND SPIKE CAME UP TO ME AND SAID THAT HE WANTED JUST THE 2 OF US TO GO FOR A WALK TO THE BEACH SO WE DID AND ABOUT AND HOUR LATER WE HEADDED BACK WHEN GEORGE (CHIVES) TOLD ME THET MY FATHER WAS VERY ANGRY SO I WENT TO THE FRONT OF CAVO DORO (AKIS) AND THERE WERE POLICE DRIVEN ALL THE WAY UP THE ROAD THERE MUST HAV BEEN ABOUT 50. If anyone can answer my question below, you can contact me at my e-mail: britt1982@msn.com Love BRITT LUPKER

Britt L  (22 June 2002)

Hello. my name is Britt Lupker and i am 19 years old and i live in the Netherlands. 3 and 4 years ago i went with my parents, brother and friends to zakinthos. we stayd in hotel Turtle Beach and it were the best holidays ever. We ate almost every night at Chives and it is a great place with wonderful food but the service was even better. We got to know the personel from Chives verry good and we became even friend with them. they were Spiros, Perry, Costas, George. I'v got a question: can anybody tell me if they are still working there (especially Spiros and Perry) and if they are not, can anybody tell me were they are working at this time! It's very important for me and my brother Tim because we like to get in contact again. Please can anyone answer my question. You are still in our thoughts and i think it is a waist not to do anything with it. because i believe this was more then just a quick friendship. Thank you. Love Britt Lupker from the Netherlands.

Craig A  (13 June 2002)

Can not understand how people did not enjoy this place every night we went here we had a great meal go and try for yourself I really enjoyed it and the staff were great with the children!!

Eva W  (13 June 2002)

Staff great and very friendly food lovely especially the honey fillet chicken go and visit this restaurant!!

Ashley C  (13 June 2002)

We loved this place we went 5 out 7 nights

Linda R  (13 June 2002)

Very Good food prices very reasonable very cheap infact staff all very friendly

Warren H  (10 June 2002)

I can't believe this has been marked 1/10. We only went the once as we went to a different restaurant every night. The night we went though it was excellent. We went on the roof top and had an excellent meal watching the Sunset with great views of Kalamaki.

Helen C  (28 May 2002)

Was told to try this restaurant and i am so glad the kids had not been enjoyiny there meals until they went here and our food was brilliant service really good aswell.

Maureen M  (28 May 2002)

Ireally enjoyed this place maybe it just that everyone else has different taste very friendly staff and anything you ask they are only too happy to oblige. try it

Ken S  (21 October 2001)

Having been to Kalamaki 2 years running, and also tested out varios eating places,we found Chives to be the best.Service was great, brothers Ectoras&Costas were very welcoming,& extremely hard working as well as the other waiters,Their new roof top restaurant is certainly a bonus with excellant views.Iwould like to be able to run up and down the stairs like they do with heavy trays! & still manage to serve hot meals. On our holiday we only eat greek food stuffed peppers ,meatballs, sword fish steak to name a few are very tasty,As for their salads brilliant. Having booked for next year we will be returning.

Grace H  (11 October 2001)

Yuk. 5 out of the 6 meals we ordered tasted exactly the same. All had too much cinammon in them. The view was great, but the food was poor. Not recommended.

Andrew D  (30 September 2001)

given this restaurant is connected to Cava D'oro, and is given such a plug by the rep., it is appalling. The service is terrible, the food too salty (swordfish and chicken) on the two occasions that we went. However, the hot mixed mezes (with seafood) is worth trying - reasonalbe value for sharing. Don't consider going as a couple - the staff will ignore you! Definitely not recommended.

Tobes   (28 September 2001)

5 out of 6 of our meals were inedible. Way too much Cinnamon, don't know why, Moussaka tasted like Cake. Mine was ok though (spaghetti somethingorother) Nice view

Mike S  (28 September 2001)

Worst night on the island! Returned about 2 hours ago, waiters very abrupt, and forgetful, clumsy, and above all, arrogant! View excellent though!

Dean M  (18 September 2001)

Well not impressed at all the Lamb Kleftico was mainly fat. There is little or no communication between waiters as wrong wine delivered and clumsy bumping into tables. My partners food was too salty not spicey as advertised. The plus point is the view over Kalamaki and seeing the planes landing or taking off.

John V  (10 September 2001)

hi to tasos frank ectoras & costas for looking after us.see you next year for great food & fun, especially the SUPER KIETH SPECIAL, say hello to george

Cheryl   (07 September 2001)

One of the worst places we tried. Meze for 2 turned out to be one plate between us. View was good though.

Dee H  (02 September 2001)

Most expensive meal we had in fortnight. Starter cold, steak cold and tough - couldn't eat it. Service appalling. The only good thing was the view. Once was enough for us!

Emma L  (01 September 2001)

the roof top is excellant and the waiters are really helpful and friendly(Tasos,Frank, Ectoras and Costas) food is relly nice definatley reccomend Frank a la creme

Kirsty V  (01 September 2001)

we have been back since last year. Much improved, roof top brilliant, liked the new waiters (Tasos and Frank)

Gavin R  (22 August 2001)

OUT OF 14 NIGHTS WE ATE AT CHIVES FOR 14 OF THEM. THE FOOD AND SERVICE ARE EXCELLENT, WITH A LARGE VARIETY AND A GREAT KIDS MENU. THE STAFF MADE OUR FAMILY FEEL VERY WELCOME, AND WE HAVE RETURNED TO THE ISLAND TWICE.

Steve H  (08 August 2001)

Service, food and price all good. If you sit on the roof top area, avoid going before dusk, or you'll end up getting fried!!!!!!

Karl P  (03 August 2001)

Food quite good. Exceptionally busy , presume this was more for the view than the food or the atmosphere. Quite slow service, but they were full. Tables too close together, try to cram as many as possible onto the roof.

Kirsty V  (01 August 2001)

too expensive & the food was the worst on the holiday. but they were very friendly!!

Sarah P  (31 July 2001)

It was the most expensive meal of our holiday & yet the worst by far! My starter was cold, one of us got the wrong meal and the waiting staff looked like they were about hang themselves!!! We all left most of our main meal which there was alot of but seriously lacked taste & presentation! The view was nice but the rest was awful!

Mike T  (30 July 2001)

We ate here on three occasions - each meal excellent and great value for money. Looked after the kids well also. Look out for the waiter who is a dead cert for a very podgy Eric Cantona.

Linda B  (13 July 2001)

We went one Sunday evening and if you like Bisto gravy with a smattering of pepper to be called 'pepper sauce' then think again!! Maybe they had too much left from Sunday dinner! Awful! Good view but thats all that can be said! We got our retribution though by turning a party of six away who were just about to go for dinner. Stay away and visit George at Sofia's for his flambes. Truly excellent!

Topper B  (10 July 2001)

We liked this place, and would certainly recommend it.

Mitch   (30 June 2001)

Definately one to miss !!! Atmosphere and setting look good.....but food is very bland. No care taken in the presentation of the meal, and taste matches. There are far too many good places to eat to even consider this one.

Dave J  (17 May 2001)

WE LOVED THIS PLACE IT WAS THE BEE'S KNEE'S GOOD FOOD FRIENDLY STAFF AND LESS THEN £20:00 FOR A FAMILY OF FOUR WITH WINE. AFTER OUR MEAL WE GOT TWO FREE DRINK'S AND OUR CHILDREN RECIEVE FREE ICE CREAM'S. 10 OUT OF 10. AND THE ROOF TOP RESTURANT HAS A GREAT VIEW OF ALL ROUND PLUS A CRACKING SUNSET.

Danny M  (11 April 2001)

We've been here many times. The food is very good and the Boutari Rose' is excellent. The twins are also very pleasant.

Keef   (01 April 2001)

The food was swimming in grease, service was appalling as we had to wait 1 hour for our main course. The complimentary Bread Roll was charged for. We certainly won't be going back there.

Natasha K  (05 March 2001)

FOOD OK (IF YOU LIKE LOADS OF SALT!!) YOU'LL ALSO GET A COMPLIMENTARY OUZO AND ORANGE JUICE (YUCK)
