Maria Hotel - (Accommodation in Alykes)

Andy N

It's very noisy, and not just the apartmetns over the bar. No air conditioning or fans, so the choice is sleeping in a sauna or in a disco. Don't go if you want to relax and sleep on your holiday! The apartments were in poor repair, bathroom door didn't shut, lightbulbs missing, electrical fitments falling out of the wall. And the pool got progressively more cloudy as the fortnight went on. Don't go there!

Phoenix Hotel - (Accommodation in Zante Town)

Andy N

Excellent location on the central square, and air-conditioned, so quiet as well. Friebdly staff. Ask for your passport back once you've registered, otherwise they just leave it in the key cubby-hole behind reception for anyone to walk off with.

Day trip to Kefalonia - (Zante Excursions)

Andy N

Didn't book the trip, instead hired a car and took it over on the ferry - worked out cheaper for two people, and then you're in control, you can pick your own lunch stops, arrange things so that you don't arrive at the sights at the same time as the coaches - and you can stop for a drink/photo/ice cream as you want. If you do this, visit the Robola Wine Co-operative, it's all free, and no pressure at all to buy. Why put money into the pockets of greedy tour operators when you can do it better and cheaper yourself. But book the ferry trips the day before, or you may not get on!

Blue Caves and Shipwreck Cruise - (Zante Excursions)

Andy N

If you have a car, go to Agios Nikolas and take one of the small boats to the Blue Caves - just 5 Euros! The small boats can actually go into the caves, so you're right inside watching the bigger tour boats sail past hundreds of yards away. Then they anchor just outside and you can swim back inside. All for about three quid, you can't go wrong.
