food was excellent, prices slightly more than elsewhere, but free wine and free ice cream for children, recommend a visit.

Hera Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Julia B

only went here for lunch, first time was okay, second time food was undercooked, maybe more friendly on an evening

Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Julia B  (24 May 2003)

tried mermaids because of the recommendations on this site, found however that it was dissapointing, service was excellent, starters also excellent, main course was average very tough chicken in the pot, tried again for a second time for lunch, which was the hardest jacket potato i have ever had, tried for second evening again excellent service, starters, and dissapointing main courses. still worth going,

Michaelos - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Zepos Taverna - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Julia B

good food overall, meat a little tough, good service, good location, good for lunch too,the only place we found that was decent at lunch time.

Macedonia Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Julia B

great apartments, very clean, literally across the road from the end of the runway, so a must if you like planes, found that there was not cot in our room, nobody wants to take responsability for the babies, had to fight to get a cot and that was only because two of us were in the same situation, everyone who arrived after us had to pay 35 euros for cot hire, and 45 euro deposit, if you have a travel cot take it! they even suggested putting 2 chairs together to make a bed for a 5 mth old baby! other than that the maids excellent, one even told us she loved us,(think it was the tip talking), would stay there again.

Keri Lighthouse - (Places to Visit in Zante)

Julia B

you must hire a car and go your own way round the island, fantastic views,

Shipwreck Viewing Platform - (Places to Visit in Zante)

Julia B

would recommend hiring a car so you can see the sites at your leisure, the view is fantastic, exactly like the photos, crystal blue, second best attraction on the island only beaten by watching the suset at kambi, sitting on the edge of a cliff eating you tea!

Zakynthos Airport - (Places to Visit in Zante)

Julia B

airport is pants! i agree, upto 4 planes arrive at once, and you all have to wait at one conveyor belt, other than that it is the same as all the airports on greek islands, not that bad or we would not keep going back.

Zante Town - (Places to Visit in Zante)

Julia B

not the best town, but worth a look, just not on a sat afternoon, all day sunday, wed afternoon, or anytime between 1-6pm. p.s if you hire a car beware that every road leads to "zakynthos town" cannot get lost as you always end up there, even when you are trying to go in the opposite direction. at one crossroad all 4 directions were signposted zakynthos town. a little like grounghog day.

Hyundai Atos - (Hire Cars in Zante)

Julia B

hired a car for 5 days, 100 euros, air con is a must, nifty for getting around, not ideal for the mountains, but it gets you there, you do feel evey bump though.

Thomas Cook - (Tour Operators in Zante)

Julia B  (24 May 2003)

went to kalamaki, according to brochure, 15 min transfer, took 1hr as they took us to laganas first, then back to kalamaki, only to realise the reason why was to try to diguise the fact that the hotel was literally across the road from the runway, good job we like planes, no cot in our room as requested, had to fight it out with rep, we were lucky, everyone else either had to hire at 35euros + 45 euros deposit, or put 2 chairs together as someone suggested for a 5mth baby! other babies were forced to sleep on very dirty z beds, planes were the most cramped that i have been on, other than that the reps did try to tackle all problems quickly.

Island Tour by Coach - (Zante Excursions)

Julia B

hire your own car, they only take you to places that are free to see anyway! that way you can see them at your leisure without getting pushed around, at all places several coaches turn up at once, recommended, shipwreck, volimes (the locals do try to persuade you to buy),keri lighthouse, kambi, for a meal watching the sunset,

Macedonia Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Julia B

sunset beach is just off the main rd from kalamaki to laganas,on the left side just past the last supermarket, going towards laganas,(opposite the end of the runway)
