Astir Palace Hotel - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Sue

I stayed in the Astir Palace Hotel for 2 weeks in May 2000. I had a SIDE sea view room which means that to see the sea you have to put your head round the balcony and look right where you can see the sea through a small alley way! This was the only slight let down of the hotel. The food was fantastic and varied and the waiters were great. The pool was lovely, very clean and always plenty of sun beds, although you had to pay for them which is a bit stingy!! The beach was very quiet as the Astir Palace is the last hotel on the beach so people dont really come up that far. There is also a patch of lawn you can sunbathe on in between the pool and sea. The sea is lovely and clear and sandy and very shallow for ages. The planes fly really really close to the hotel but they dont really bother you. On your way home you can actually see the hotel out of the plane window! The nightclubs are at least a 15 min walk away which is good because the hotel is situated in a lovely quiet area, although there are some fantastic restaurants near so you can eat out if you dont fancy the hotel food. The rooms are brilliant, you get a TV and air con which was free at the time. You had to pay extra for the key to the fridge. The beach bar by the pool serves some great food in case you miss breakfast! Enjoy your holiday, I dont think you will be let down by this hotel unless it has drastically changed since 2000.

I went to Zante in May 2000 for 2 weeks, at that time the bar men were Tyson, Billy and Rob. All fantastic blokes and they are SO much better than Tom Cruise doing the bottle dances and stuff. The music is just normal chart and club music, nothing too cheesy though! going back on 1st July 2003 cant wait to have another "Slippery Nipple" cocktail!!!

Lovely place, always clean and quiet. Food comes really quickly. We loved the cheese egg burgers with chips and the full english breakfast. Friendly lady waitress, always happy. Very reasonable prices.

Georgios - (Restaurants in Laganas)

This was by far the best restaurant in Laganas. The portions sizes are huge!! Our favourite was the chicken burritos or the beed & bean burritos. Could never manage to eat a full plate. Dont order starters or you will not touch your main course! Desert was out of the question too! Ate in Georgios 5 times in two weeks!

This is a very cheap place, only good if you love pasta. The most annoying thing was the PLASTIC plates and cups!! Also the annoying wooded benches with no backs to lean on. They are very wobbly and you get packed very close to the next table as its such a small restaurant.

The "lovely" english lady is pushy and talkative here, didnt leave us alone and even asked us what we ate on the way out, she is quite nosy. I agree with the other comment about the service. We ordered food about 9pm and didnt get our food until 9.50pm!! thats just outrageous!! It was impossible to get the attention of the waiters, they just walked straight past you. I didnt even think the portions were big. Lasagne came completely on its own - no salad or chips to go with it. When we finished eating, it took 25 minutes to get the bill and we just paid and walked out without leaving a tip or saying thank you. Every night after that the lady says hello and tries to get you back in. I think these people are just annoying and the menus outside should be enough to entice people inside, you dont need a lady standing there calling you accross the street, it looks cheap!

In response to Amy's comment, I was not rude so that is no excuse for getting our meals late or being kept waiting for the bill. As it happens, the night we went in this place, the waiters were all under the age of 20 and didnt have much experience so I blame that for being kept waiting. I am entitled to my own opinion.

We did not like this place. The services was appaling! We ordered food at 8.30 and didnt get served until 9.25! Then the bill took 25 minutes to arrive. The waiters ignored you and walked straight past. I had lasagne which was very plain and came with no chips or salad. My other half didnt enjoy the steak either. Definitely would NOT recommend!

This palce was a big let down after reading these good comments. The food took FOR EVER to arrive at the table. The waiters didnt seem interested in keeping the customer happy, they just walk straight past you, the bill takes ages to come...hence we didnt leave a tip! The food was standard.

Took nearly an hour for the food to arrive at the table, waiters were rude and slow and the bill took about 15 mins to arrive. Food was nothing amazing considering the high prices. Found better food and service elsewhere along the Kalamaki Road.
