Meandros Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Clare R

We visited the Meandros Hotel just after it had reopened, and unfortunately not all facilities were up and running (no snack bar, restaurant or bureau de change) but it's position in Kalamaki is good (lots of restaurants, bars and supermarkets nearby), although the walk to the beach (about 250 metres) can seem an eternity in the heat! The rooms were clean, nicely decorated and well equipped - our room had a sea view and mountain view, but the balcony was no use until about 2100 (in June) unless you wanted to barbeque yourself! The airport is close by but the noise from the aircraft is very minimal - and the double glazing prevents any disturbances whilst sleeping. Breakfast was certainly not worth getting out of bed for, but with a fridge in the room (for milk), cereals was fine! It is probably one of the best positioned hotels in Kalamaki - if that's where you want to spend a week in the sun - I would recommend it, if only for the good sized pool, spacious sunbathing area and quiet ambience. But be sure you want to spend the week in Kalamaki - it is not exactly full of greek charm - but more the home of Brits abroad.

Cave Bar - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Clare R

This is a bar for couples - you are unlikely to find any miniskirt-clad girls dancing on the bar (thank goodness!). The view is enviable and the jeep drive up there makes it all the more interesting. Part of the bar is in a small cave (with only 3 tables) which is lovely - if a little cold - and the fear of an earthquake leaving you stuck there forever, (or a fear of spiders) may make you venture outside again!!

Down Under - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Clare R  (24 June 2003)

What entertainment! This is a great bar - friendly staff and Tom Cruise-styley cocktail shaking! I'm sure later in the evening and in the height of the season this is "THE" place to be seen - but when we (a couple!) went it was a nice, lively evening with GOOD cocktails!

Chives - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Clare R  (24 June 2003)

What a disappointment! The pleasant view was it's only saving grace! The food was average at best - fairly typical of Kalamaki - tinned carrots, rice and meat the way it is always done (possibly microwaved!). We celebrated a birthday here - and ordered a romantic Chateaubriand for two (or ChatAWEbriand as the menu said - yeah, yeah, we should have realised!)- we were not asked how we wanted this cooked - but told them we would like it cooked "medium" (it came cooked "well done", and arrived within minutes of completing the starter) - it was also more expensive than I've paid for better versions in London!! The Baklava (as is always the case with this superb greek dessert) was excellent and held a birthday candle very nicely! The wine, as ever, was poured immediately without allowing for tasting - but I'm not sure any waiter in Kalamaki has ever been taught this element of good service, so I wasn't really surprised!!!!

Dias - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Clare R

Dias was the best restaurant we ate at in Kalamaki - but to be honest that isn't a difficult accolade to achieve! We were celebrating and ordered champagne here - which was surprisingly nice - seeing as it cost only £9 (the most expensive bottle on the menu!) - but we had to laugh when we were presented with "babycham" glasses to drink it with!! The meal and service was of a good standard for Kalamaki - if you end up in Kalamaki and want a nice meal this is one of your best bets!
