Laganas Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

Steve C

We got back from Zakynthos last night after 2 glorious weeks of sunshine and a heatwave plus a thirty minute downpour. The Driftwood down on the beach makes Excellent food and the staff are helpful, if not some times cheerful. The main drag in Laganas is a pissheads suicide adventure, if the shots don't get em, the mopeds will. The Kalamaki road, which runs east to west from the main drag, has many more superior bars. Hot Lips, Best kareoke bar, Amigo's bar, best shots you'll ever find, and then ther'es Luppers Pinte.
What i can't say about this friendly German bar aint worth saying, the host of this bar is, of course, german. He dont like em either. Most of the people who visit this bar are local workers and friends who've been before and continue to return to Luppers year after year. The food is varied, but great all the same. Further along the road are many other bars, including The River bar, just by the river on the way to the beach. This bar is a long established theme bar, Football. As many matches as you wanne see. Niko and Lynne who own this bar are friendly and welcoming, Niko, football mad ,by the way. Lynne an english ex-pat from Leeds make everyone welcome youg or old. The breakfast is a FULL english, for p-nuts, Dot serves with a smile, a wee scots lassie, cross her at your peril you yobs//.

Driftwood Beach Bar - (Bars in Laganas)

Steve C

WE have left the Driftwood after the best two weeks ever. The host, Adonis Marinos, is a character by his own rights. After spending time with his english mum and greek father in Ethiopia and many other places in Africa. He settled in Zakynthos, his fathers home.
After spending time in Leeds, my home town, to complete his studies in cuisine, he returned to Zakynthos. Where upon he opened the first beach bar. The Driftwood.
Its name was inspired by a little hotel when Antony was younger, outside Malindi called The Driftwood hotel, Hence The Driftood opened 22 years ago, It's success speaks for itself
The staff who work at the Driftwood are the same year after year.
Clare, the most experienced with 5 years under her belt is funny, bubbly smiley, and bloody funny. She can drink with the best of them and her banter will match the best of them. She deserves a top tip every time.
Annoula is top dog in the kitchen. You can tell her moods by her cooking and alters taste to match yours, Ive never had any sour food unless it was with a sweet sauce.
Guy, her mate in the kitchen is a nice guy, no pun intended, and is equally experienced in the kitchen, although he's vegitarian, he knows how to cook a steak.
Lyn, what can I say about Lyn? A little Geordie lass, been on the island for quite some years. An ex-pat (or pet?) brit, she lives in Zante town with her greek chap. She cycles to work every day and has a smile on her face all the time, I think it's the bike and the bummpy roads. Lyn wates the tables and makes time to chat with everyone, she loves kids.
Garry, he also wates tables, Lyn's protege I think. He tends to be a bit dizzy because he's still learning the job or ogling the luvly fillies who frequent the beach shower 5 yards away.
Meto, the youngest member of staff at just 21 he looks about 12.
He's a fresh young face and certainly attracts the ladies, old ones who want to mother him.
Lastly there's George, a greek with teeth like a grave yard, a temprament that changes from day to day, he only scowled once and it poured buckets for a full 30 mins. He's the cleaner, sweeper and general duties man who does all the back house work.
Vanessa is a part timer who started just recently, is competator with Clare in the banter stakes, and gives as good as she gets, and I rekon can throw a good right ander if insulted, so be careful.
