Cosy Corner - (Restaurants in Alykanas)

Michelle V

Surely we are not talking about the same restaurant here, reading the other people's comments below. We had breakfast at the Cosy Corner and it was excellent, certainly not dripping in fat. We also ate here a few nights too and on one occassion I fancied scampi and chips which again were not dripping in fat. My husband and 10 year old son had the Ionian meat pie which was excellent (served with vegetables and gravy, made such a change from rice etc which you get with all other Greek meals). On another night we had one of the specials which was Chicken Stifado, and for once in Greece, the chicken was not on the bone, it was pure chicken and it was the best meal we had on this holiday. The chicken and ham pie (a special on a Saturday night) was excellent too. We have been visiting the Greek Islands for 14 years and very rarely eat English food, and the English dishes served at the Cosy Corner were very good indeed. The location was just fantastic, off the main road. It was so much nicer eating our dinner in a beautiful location and not with smelly horse and carts, noisy motorbikes and cars with the music at full blast roaring past whilst you are eating. We loved you Cosy Corner and your food is excellent!!! Love Trevor, Michelle and Albert xx

Dannys Kali Pigi Hotel - (Accommodation in Alykanas)

Michelle V

It depends where your room is at Dannys as to how you would rate a holiday here! We have been travelling to the Greek Islands for the past 14 years and have never had a complaint in all that time. This year for the first time we had a complaint - our room (101) on the ground floor was right opposite the bar!!!!!! My husband is disabled and needs to be able to get a good nights sleep, and the holiday company we travelled with, obviously thought it would be a good laugh to give us the noisest room on the complex. The room was very sub-standard for Greece. The sink unit in the kitchen smelt rank, it was so damp it was running alive with ants. There was no cupboards to put the crockery and cutlery in, so they were on the draining board 24/7 with the ants running alive all over the utensils. The fridge had had its day and was as hot as the weather outside and constantly leaked water. Now on to the bathroom - the shower head was broken. The flexible silver tube had come away from the shower head so you were left with the rubber tube, hence the water went everywhere from the tube. The toilet just stunk to high heaven and we constantly kept the lid down and the door closed. The cleaners seemed to clean the floor every day, but their cleanliness in the bathroom was very much to be desired. You could not see in the mirror at all (where the water squirted out of the shower tube) and was not cleaned once nor was the sink or toilet - it truly was disgusting. For the first time in 14 years of staying in a studio room, there was no third bed in there on our arrival, shocked faces from the staff and then arrived the most clapped out put-you-up bed with two, bed bugged thin mattresses placed on top and my son was supposed to sleep on that - it was horrendous and I would not even let a dog sleep on it. And then the balcony, surrounded by Flora and Fauna, very nice, but the plants were planted in sand of which the cats on the complex used as their toilet - so it stunk on the balcony and then of course the wonderful bar - great bar if you are not living opposite it! We are not a football family and returning home after a nice day out and having to listen to what ever was on at full blast was not our idea of a peaceful, relaxing holiday. No I am sorry for us, Danny's was so very substandard, that the apartment block we were staying in needs pulling down. As a result of the room, we did not spend anytime at the pool (one there was no room for a start) and not our idea of bombing in the pool and dumping people off their sunbeds in to the pool either. This is our second time in Alikanas, the resort is fantastic, just that Dannys for us was not - sorry guys!!!!!!

Mill Bar - (Bars in Alykanas)

Michelle V

If it is the only thing you do whilst on holiday in Alikanas you must visit the Mill. It is a haven of luxury, like an Oasis in the middle of the dessert. When you are at the Mill you find yourself transported to somewhere totally exotic! The pool is so clean, the furniture is just the best I have ever seen anywhere and the sunbeds could easily fit two people on them (especially newlyweds!). The food during the day was lovely and every meal we had there was just fantastic (especially the salads). I totally recommend the Greek night on a Friday - do book - as they do turn people away. It is just such a fun evening and audience participation is the name of the game - so dancing shoes on everyone. I was 40 on Greek night and was presented a bottle of champagne by Julie and Spiros and was sung happy birthday to - it is a night I will not forget in a hurry. Thank you Julie and Spiros for what you did, I was most touched. All of the staff are by far the most friendliest we have ever come across in Greece and we thank you all for the most fantastic time.

Manos Holidays - (Tour Operators in Zante)

Michelle V  (02 September 2004)

We have been travelling to the Greek Islands for the past 14 years and this was the first, and I am afraid to say, last time we travel with Manos. As my husband is disabled we had asked for a room in a quiet part of the complex, imagine our horror when we were given room 101 at Dannys, just 10 feet away from the bar. Manos what are you trying to do - it felt to us that you were laughing in our faces. I spoke to the rep, very politely explaining our situation the next day. He said we could move two floors up and three rooms along (this is still facing the bar and noise travels upwards and my husband is disabled) - hello is anybody there!!!!!! Oh also it would cost us 20 Euros to move as well. The room we had for the first time in Greece was very very substandard. We had three electric sockets hanging out of the walls (we had a 10 year old with us - luckily he knew not to touch these - a baby would not have). A broken shower head which sprayed water everywhere but on you and the cleaners never once cleaned the mirror of which the shower squirted on to - I would have done it myself, but I was on holiday and did not have any cleaning materials with me and was loathe to by any. Anyway getting back to the Manos Rep - the bigger man is the one that knows you have had a problem, when he sees you pops over to see how you are getting on and makes polite conversation - the rep we had, once I had spoken to him, everytime he saw us he avoided us as though we had the plague! I am sorry Manos we will not be back - it is back to Kosmar and Libra for us.
