Kennys Bar - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Gary M  (28 July 2006)

HI GARY AND DAWN

I cant believe that 48 hours ago, we were sitting or falling over in your bar.
To anyone who has`nt visited this bar and if you want a genuine slice of Britain within the heart of Kalamaki, then this place is an absolute must.
Spot on entertainment and most importantly spot on hosts who go out of their way to make you feel welcome.
Hopefully trying to get out  there again in September, If not then roll on 2007.

Best wishes for the rest of the season,
Dinglebat Slaptiback, Mrs Badcrumble,Two spitting ducks and the Evil Giraffe.(Stoke Crew)

Antonis Pool Bar - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Gary M

click to enlargeclick to enlargeclick to enlargeStayed in the appartments ajoining this pool/bar and totally enjoyed our stay.

Entertainment every night ranging from full-on Greek nights with dancers and BBQ to informal quizzes and Kareoke nights.
During the day there are excellent catering facilities for food and drink at reasonable prices and everyone is welcome regardless of where you you are staying.
Appartments are superb and whole site is ideally situated in Kalamaki centre.

Family Inn Hotel - (Accommodation in Argassi)

Gary M          5/10

A nice quiet location away from the main strip of bars and restaurants, but can feel a little isolated especially in the evenings, as the pool bar closes around 6.00pm.and the Hotel main bar is a bit stuffy and formal.

It has a pleasent swimming pool area with plenty of sunbeds, complete with kiddies pool and jacuzzi. During the day the pool bar offers a good range of food and drinks all at reasonable prices and is run by an English couple.
One word of warning, you cannot eat your own food and drink whilst at the pool area.
A shame as  unnessary arrassment of guests was off putting and very petty.
Also the other blot on the landscape was the lack of air conditioning within the apparttments which became stifling especially at night.
Other than that if you want somewhere away from the hustle and bustle then this place may suit you.
I for one will visit Argassi again but not based here.

Zakynthos Airport - (Places to Visit in Zante)

Gary M          2/10

Anyone who has been to Zante before won`t need to be reminded what a trial the return jouney to the UK. can be, but this year with the new security measures in place, we were informed on numerous occasions that no liquids including water could be taken any further than Passport Control.

Knowing what the "DepartureLounge" was like including the rip-off prices of drinks, this extra development only added to our feelings of woe.
Imagine our complete surprise and then frustration to find that no such restriction exists.
You can go through carrying a beer barrel if you want to.(A water butt for tee-totalers).But going in dry as previously instructed we were then forced to pay the afforementioned prices.
It really is annoying that people who are paid to pass on infomation  back to the cutomer get this basic info  hopelessely wrong.
Once inside however as a result of our early flight, we were lucky enough to take advantage of empty seats. This was a complete bonus.
Joking aside, surely some finance generated by tourism should be earmarked to modenise the departure side of the airport (The arrivals side is fine).
Again this year within an hour of us getting through to the departure lounge. it resembled a refugee camp caught up in some kind of natural disaster.
Time for a bit of investment I think.....
Although after all my gripes, it won`t stop me coming to Zante.

Beer Academy - (Bars in Argassi)

Gary M          9/10

A great bar to chill out during the day and a superb atmosphere in the evening either watching football on multiple giant screens or playing pool on one of four tables.

All the staff are extremely helpful and friendly and if you are feeling really lazy, girls are waiting on delivering drinks to your seat.
During our stay this year we took in the England/Germany game (pity about the result) and had a great night.
One other thing to bear in mind, because of the location of this bar it keeps very keen prices because of the competition.
All in all a fantastic bar that I could do with as my "local" on a Saturday afternoon.

Argassi Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

Gary M          7/10

Lets be fair there isn`t really a beach as such at Argassi, but who actually sits on a beach for any length of time in that heat( Average temp while we were there was approx 38 Celcius).

The sea however is superb, teaming with fish and also safe as houses as even 300mtrs from shore, you can still touch the bottom.which is all sand .
Went for a swim every morning before the rest of my family got up, and was so much more refreshing than the hotel pool.
To repeat no vast sand dunes but don`t let that put you off the beautiful sea.
