Hi Nicki,

We fly out to Zante on 22nd May staying at the Amaryllis. It has been recommended to us by several people and the resort of Kalamaki particularly.

Both my kids (also a baby and toddler) have had chicken pox in the past few weeks and have been given the all clear by the doctor to fly, thank god!

The Amaryllis has a kitchen so yes, it will have a kettle but not sure about a microwave.

If you wish to contact the Amaryllis, you can do so by clicking on their website http://www.amaryllishotel.gr/en/home.php or email sssh@otenet.gr.

Hope this helps and good luck

Stayed at the Amaryllis 22 May to 5 June 2007.  This complex is excellent for families, couples and singles if you wish.  Didn't hear one bad report whilst we were there from other guests except it would do better to have a toaster in the room.  But I see that as if you want toast, get it from the on site cafe.

Very clean.  Beds and towels changed every two days except Mondays and beds made daily with the room clean.

Excellent swimming pool and the best kiddies pool I have ever seen.  It's huge and safe.  Bar area was also clean as Panos works his butt off whilst he's there.  Anna on reception is very helpful with anything you would like, she will help you get it, i.e. car, excursions, taxis etc....  Girls in the cafe/mini market were very pleasant and helpful.

It's set in lovely gardens with it's own 24/7 gardener watering and pruning all day long.  He's also the handyman for things that break or in need of repair.

Weather was indifferent but any rain was resticted to late afternoon, evening or nighttime.

Me and my family enjoyed this complex and Kalamaki so much we are going back next year, already booked!

Hi Ann,

The kitchen area is very basic.  You get a two electric ring hob, no toaster and to be honest, I can't remember a kettle, but I'm sure someone did say there is one.

Even if you are late risers, the on site cafe do breakfast all day and even on the main strip you will be able to get something.

Enjoy!

Hi Karen, the Euro against the pound and it's return is the problem and people link this to costs in Zante and other holiday destinations. Whilst costs in Zante rise each year, it's not really noticeable.  I managed to get my Euros at 1.24 to the pound, compared to last years 1.44.  We spent £1300 for a famly of four of us, and we didn't scrimp and scrape, altough we never had three course meals either.  Many familes with older children were spending around £1500-£1600 but were having three courses every evening.

Its difficult to compare, and it really depends on how many of you there are and what you intend to eat.

Average costs are 2.50e per large beer, 10e for lunch, 30e for evening three courses, breakfast varies depends on what you eat and where, average 5e.  Hope this helps.

Weather in October is a little wetter and cooler.  Average temperature is 24c-26c and you can expect some rain, particularly in the evenings where it also gets cold, so ensure you have a jacket or thick cardy.

Hi Lynne,

First Choice are the only operator in this complex.  However, you can book direct with the Amaryllis and then book your flights.

Hope this helps.

Hi Karen,

No hair dryer or bath I'm afraid.  It is virtually impossible to cook a meal.  You have a two ring hob that doesn't really get that hot if you wanted to boil something or even fry...well ours didn't anyway.

The apartments are big and we were in D1 last year on the ground floor which was pretty good, this year  we were in B12, slightly smaller, but a little better in our opinion as we were up a level and had a pretty good view when sitting on the balcony sipping the Mythos.

If you email the hotel, they are usually good and come back to you.  Hope this information helps.

Hi Karen,

Yes, the showers are something else.  B12 was a One bed apartment and excellent.

If you need friendly advice about the local area or amaryllis, as well as this site there is also http://www.zante.me.uk/forum/index.php?board=3.0 which is excellent.

Hope you have a lovely holiday, don't worry about the weather.

Hi Julie, no, you can't hire toasters at these appartments unfortunately but what people have started doing is taking cheap toasters and leaving them there, so you may get one handed over.

Just returned from another great year at the Amaryllis. Our kids needed more entertaining this year so we will consider next years holiday and may go to a complex with kids clubs etc... Our poor son was a bit bored as the weather wasn't great so the pools were cold and the park area wasn't for his age group.

Lynn, local beer is average 2.50 Euro, Magners 4.50 Euro. Meals, Family of four can eat well for 50 Euro, a couple for 35 Euro, this includes drinks. Car Hire is around 30 Euro per day but good deals are around for 3 days or more so shop about.  Hope this helps.

Hi there, air con is expensive at the Amaryllis, I think it's around 60 Euro per week. We go in May so it's not needed.

Hope this helps.

They don't allow fans in the room either so be careful if you use a fan to hide it.

Just spoke with a friend who was at the Amaryllis for part of the said date and he said there were no groups of lads.  He did say a few teenagers with their parents got a bit drunk and loud but it didn't ruin anyones holiday and didn't really last long.

The owners pride themselves on family orientated accomodation so if you do encounter problems, complain immedaitely.

Other than that, enjoy these wonderful apartments.

Hi Shauna

The weather will be cooling down in October and you can expect some rain during the day and particularly at night.  Daytime temps are pleasant at around 21c-25c. May also be worth taking cardigans or light jackets for the night times.

I have been in October and many place start to close so choices were limited. Don't be put off by any of this as it's still  awonderful place to be in October and you will return thinking what a great holiday.

Anything else, please ask.

Mitch

Hi Rob, Kalamaki has sooooo many good restaurants and bars it's hard to choose the best but Drunk Corner can be lively, as can many other bars on the strip at that time of year. As for restaurants, again, too many to list but many faves are Buon Amachi for Italian, Dias, heavans kitchen etc...for local quisine, to a few chinese/inidians.

I'm at the Amaryllis from the 17th June so might see you there.
