Pythari Apartments - (Accommodation in Laganas)

Michael

Stayed here 30th Sept '01 to 7 Oct '01 Excellent Apartments, we paid a supplement for a larger room (when booking) so we had plenty of space. The room was cleaned every day and the towels and sheets changed once during our week stay. The pool is really clean and the Snack bar serves good priced food and drink, happy hour 5-6pm. Plenty of sunbeds around the pool. It is about 5 mins walk into the main strip/kalamki road area. The reception has saftey deposit boxes (there is a 2500dr charge) and is open 9am to 12.30pm then 5pm to 9pm. As per other comments yes there are cockrells and dogs barking at all hours, but this didn't really bother us (nor you once you've had a skinfull!!)

Telebank 24hours Cash Machine - (Banks in Zante)

Michael

The cash point was fine for us, thought the rep did warn that they get emptied on a friday as the workers get paid, and take all their money out. I imagine in the height of season that so many people taking money out would cause them to dry up. We came across 3 cash points on the lagana road and one automated currency converter.

Alykanas Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

Michael

"Don't miss the pretty little beach at Xohoriati by the old village of Alikanas, just below the Shoestring" We had a hard job finding this place, and when we got there it was nothing special, the food at shoestring was really good though.

Kalamaki Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

Michael

This beach was fantastic once you get away from the sunloungers. go down to the beach and turn left, walk past the sunloungers where you'll find a quite stretch of beach - don't go right to the end unless your up for abit of nude bathing. Great for snorkeling espacially by the rocks.

Laganas Beach - (Beaches in Zante)

Michael

This was the worst beach, it is used by cars at night as a road so the sand is like concrete. One big ashtry, as all the bars and resutrants have loungers out front. Hire a car and visit some of the much better beaches on the island. The best place for snorkeling is Agios Sostis, go down to Lagana beach and walk right along the beach, walk over the wooden boardwalk and keep going you will see an island ahead (Agios Sostis) 20 min from Lagana road. there is a wooden bridge to cross over to it go up the steps and turn right then go down the steps to a secluded alcove a real sun trap. It is a man made stone beach and the entrance to the water is very rockey so you will need shoes to wear in the water. The fish you will see are absolutely amazing. Get there early as it is very popular.

Blue Caves and Shipwreck Cruise - (Zante Excursions)

Michael

We drove upto skinari light house and got a small boat to see the blue caves 2000dr each, the trip was about 35 minutes and the boat went right into the caves, there was a short swim stop as well. Excellent value and the boats run every 15 minutes. Don't take any notice of the locals who say this is the end of the road as it isn't, they just want you on their boat.

Zakfari Jeep Safari - (Zante Excursions)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

Thanks paul for a great day, really enjoyed the drive and the sights. Didn't think we got very smelly (thought it would be worse!). Had a small bit of trouble booking as I tried to book via my rep (first choice, Lagana) and was told that they weren't running any more, so I booked via Kappa corfu, Kalimaki Road. The Zakfari was the highlight of our holiday. BEWARE OF POOR IMMITATIONS, ZAKFARI - ONLY THE BEST IS GOOD ENOUGH!!!

Cyberzone - (Other Things in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

Very nice place, about 3 mins from where we were staying, 500dr for 15 minutes, it was always very quite when we went in so we had no problems getting a computer. They also show films at night one at 8pm and one at 10pm.

Argo Bar - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael

This place was really good, with the longest happy hour we could find from 4pm to 2am where a 50cl beer will cost 500dr, and cream cocktails 800dr, fruty ones 700dr. They also have a pool table and a air hockey table to keep you amused , if the cheesy music doen't keep you entertained. The toilets are abit make shift out the back.

Chiellos Bar - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

we went looking for this place, only to find it was closed and all boarded up, I guess the police got fed up whith then and closed them down (comment further down).

Cocktails and Dreams - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael

Thought this place was excellent, easy to get served by freindly bar staff, doing all the Tom Cruise stuff. large choice of cocktails and cheap happy hour. If you get there early you can get seat over looking the main strip (go to the right hand side or you'll have cravings for chinese all night), where you can watch all the idiots at Zeros & Rescues.

Filou Cocktail Bar - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

This place was really good the staff are really friendly and the gardens are fantastic. It was very quite, a great place to chill out.

Ghetto Bar - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael

This place was really good, the bar men are entertaining and you get served quick and easy. cocktails are 1500dr and you get two for one during happy hour.

Millagro - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

Fantastic bar, you get a free shot on arrival (only the once though), fast and easy to get served, nice range of cocktails at 600dr in happy hour (7pm to 11pm), and you can get Mythos on draft for 600dr a pint. they also do waitress service, so if you can't stand up you can still get your drink.

Rescue Club - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael

After trying to get served for 20 minutes we left. The barmen are more concerned with less than attractive fe-males? at the bar. Also the drink is exspensive 600dr for a 330ml bottle of mythos, considering you can get a 500ml one at Argo bar for 500dr and a pint (586ml) of draft at Millagros for 600dr. Top tip if you a bird with a bloke don't bother, if your a bloke on your own or with mates/girlfiend don't bother.

G Spot - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael

Desperate enough to entice people in with vouchers for free shots, and then they bring them round at intervals to keep you there, Save this place for your last night when you have no money left, buy one drink and make it last the whole night they'll fill you with free shots. Music wise they seem to be trying to revive Vanilla Ices career single handedly. If you like old blokes with magnum style moustaches this is the place for you.

Saloon Bar - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

Not sure if it was due to it being close to the end of season but the place was empty. The staff were great though. They like a bit of guns 'n' roses too.

Zeros - (Bars in Laganas)

Michael

This place was absolute crap. Can't get to the bar for birds (not even nice ones at that) then when you do get to the bar you get ignored by the bar men, My girlfriend got us drinks and found shards of glass in her cocktail (the glass wasn't broken!), not sure if it had anything to do with the 2-2 draw or not.

Casa Grecque - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

We had the Greek set meal for two for 6200dr, as below it was fantastic value, we couldn't eat it all. Service was very good, and the waitress was very freindly.

Estia - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

I had the lamb kleftico which was very nice but there didn't seem to be aloyt of it, my girlfriend had the stuffed burgers as recommended earlier and the were absoutly fantastic. Its not as good value as some of the other resturants but well worth the visit especially if something on the specials board takes your fancy as specials usually have a good discount.

Wild Bills - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

This place is great value as you can eat as much as you like. there isn't loads of variety like on a full menu or a chinese buffet, but there is plenty. I would advise having a look to see what they have before you go in and sit down (they don't mind) to make sure they have something you will eat. The main dishes change but the salad stuff is always the same. The hot food isn't always so hot, best to get it just after they bring out a fresh lot. The staff are very friendly and said we wern't allowed to leave until we had eaten the whole buffet! The atmosphere is very relaxed, when you want more food you just go up get another plate and help yourself.

The Isles Greek Restaurant - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael

We loved this place though the service was a little slow about an hour per course. as recommended we had the flaming saganaki, and potato salad for starters both were really nice. then again as recommended we had the green pepper steak but didn't find it all that spicy. but it was still really good. and finally the fruit salad which was plentiful and varied.

Mamas Place - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

We went here on our first night and ordered a chicken gyros for 600dr as recommended below. We sat down and the food arrived it was great, but cost us 1500dr, we weren't sure if we got what we asked for or if we were ripped off. Anyway the food was so good we went back and made sure we asked for 600dr chicken gyros which was to take away, we got this and came to the conclusion that we weren't ripped off, but that there was slight confusion and we got a gyros meal as we had sat down the previous time. Highly recommended but make sure you state the price of what you want.

Michaels Place - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael   (08 October 2001)

excellent mixed grill, good service and friendly efficient staff.

Paradise - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael

had the mixed slouvaki, which was excellent and plenty of it too, My girlfriend had the chicken paradise which was extreamly potent with garlic, She was sick that evening but not sure if it was the food or not. Service was excellent and staff were friendly. Highly recommend the mixed slouavki.

Vezal - (Restaurants in Laganas)

Michael (08 October 2001)

We couldn't find this place, until our last day - go down to Lagana beach and turn right, walk along the beach for 10 min, you will pass steves original resturant.
