Old Village

Restaurants in Tsilivi

Sally P  (11 July 2012)        10/10

Have just returned from 2 weeks in Tsilivi and would like to say that the food at the Old Village was, quite simply, the best Greek food I have ever had. Everything was cooked fresh by Marina, with any requests for additions/subtractions happily accommodated. The service provided by Anna was fantastic and we ended up spending many an evening chatting to her and Marina way after the meal was finished.

The kitchen is spotless, the prices very reasonable - all in all a very pleasant way to spend an evening, even if you just pop in for a cold beer and their fabulous garlic bread (try it with cheese - a delight).
We tried several locally owned restaurants as we wanted to support local businesses that are losing out in the increasing "all-inclusive" holiday craze, and the Old Village definately came top. The "all-inclusive" is the reason why the Old Village has less customers, not the quality of food or service.
I would encourage other visitors to support the locals - once they are gone, they are gone, and we have lost one of the reasons we all went to Greece in the first place.

Goodness me!! What a difference a year makes!!

Always been one of our favourites but really suffering for the recession

Tiny portions and most expensive meal we had

Had the Greek Meze and Poor Anna was embarassed with what we got- Asked if we wanted some chips with it

Gave us some wine free and said sorry about the meal

Less and less people in there as our fortnight went on. Last two days NOBODY in there at half eight

What a pity

A great understated place to dine. Welcoming friendly staff and super food. What more can I say: well perhaps their fillet steak- medium rare, with a garlic sauce on the side is simply, one of the best I have had to date! WOW!! I highly recommend this place. Be sure to give it a try WHOOPA :-)

I stay in Tsilivi every time i visit Zante. The Old Village Taverna is my favourite place to eat. Spiros the lovely man who owns it is an absolute delight. The staff are lovely and always welcoming. The first night i ate there i was telling people walking past to come in as the food was so good i could not help but try and share the experience. Their stuffed mushrooms and steak with mushroom sauce is to die for and the local greek and corfu dishes are lovely. Could not recommend it more highly. Once you dine with the lovely Spiros you will not want to eat anywhere else.

We are just back having stayed in the Panos Bay Apartments and on our first night decided to eat in the Old Village Resturant next door purely out of convenience and what a lucky choice for us !!

The food was wonderful and nothing was too much of an efford either to explain the menu or to cook a mixture of dishes to satisfy the ' hunger of the day ' but the hidden gem is Anna who nothing is too much trouble for and who's cheerful personality makes you feel at home !!
We ate here 6nights in our 7 night stay !!
A place not to be missed if your anywhere near Tsilivi .

went to the old village last week and had spetzofai, a sausage casserole. It was swimming in a sea of oil and tasted disgusting

Old Village was a nice typical Greek taverna. Good mezze selections. Nice varied menu and good traditional music. Food was very nice.  Would go back.

Must say that the food, wine and service was first rate. Varied menu which we tried to go through on our stay, did try else where but it wasn't a patch on The Old Village. Would recommend it to anybody who wanted to try good Greek cooking or just wanted to have a varied menu to suit all the family. The service was always first class and help was on hand to explain what some of the Greek food was made from for some of the items I had never seen on previous visits to Greece.

WHATEVER YOU DO WHILST YOU ARE IN TSILIVI, MAKE SURE YOU EAT HERE.  YOU WILL REGRET IT IF YOU DON'T!

We ate at this restaurant on the first night in Zante as it was just at the end of the road where we stayed.  Apart from one night, and we wished we had eaten there that night too!, we never ate anywhere else.
Everything on the menu we tried was mouth-wateringly delicious.  Gyros, Souvlakis, Klefticos, Stamnes, moussaka (of course), Saganaki, Spicy sausage (can't remember the greek name for it), spicy rack of lamb with home-grown mint sauce, mustard marinated potatoes and the piece de resistance a special mezze - WOW!  Gina, Anna and Spiros were really welcoming and never tired of explaining what the food was, especially Gina.

We can't thank you enough, it was everything we had hoped for in Greek cooking and much much more!

I am going to have to cook dinner from now on and there is no way I can compete, Dawn.

Our claim to fame - ours was the first special mezze Spiros has ever dropped!!!!!!! Shame the video camera wasn't rolling.
