I`ll be doing some DJing in Plus Soda between 5 and 18 July and in mermaids restuarant every night for my evening nosh so look out for a geeza in a Chesterfield shirt or just ask one of the staff in Plus Soda/mermaids if you need any help when I`m there!

(I should be a rep I reckon or work for the tourist board!)

Kalamaki tips and guides

Chris Chadwick June 2004(1) Zante airport

is very small and gets hot in summer. Take your own food and drinks for the return flight as the prices are extortionate. The duty free shop is often cheaper than the shops though!

(2) Bars and clubs.

The newest and best bar/club in the resort is Plus Soda, next to Mermaids, with entertainment for all the family, live DJs, fully airconditioned, plasma screens etc.
There are plenty of bars according to the mood, whether you want a quiet drink or a bit more liveliness!
I like the Cave Bar fror a quiet drink, ideal for couples, and always pay a visit to Akis and Alison at the Cavo d`Oro Hotel bar (not the pool bar but the one on the front) - say Chris sent you, great for a relaxing night!
There is a lot of difference in prices, Plus Soda will be amongst the cheapest as well, I`ve been charged 4.50 euros for a pint of Fosters in one bar! (never went back)

(3) restaurants

without doubt my personal favourite is Mermaids where I eat every night. HUGE range of dishes and all the family`s catered for, internet access and playstations etc for the kids! It`s the busiest in Kalamaki and all the food is fresh and the meat all imported.
Again, a good guide is to see which places are busy and which aren`t as people often return to their favourites!

(4) Money

The rate in kalamaki is always better than in England, take cash, store it in a safety box and change over there. Sofias shop normally has the best rate. Watch out for high exchange rates where they hide a commission charge.

(5) General wellbeing

Never drink or brush your teeth with the water, (and I never have ice in drinks),bottled water is extremely cheap. I take a Boots liquid mosquito killer to plug in, never been bitten with one of those in the room.
If you can hire the airconditioning if it is an option in your apartment in the summer, it makes the rooms a lot more comfy!

(6) Travel

If you hire a car make sure you get the damage waivers on the insurance, haggle and ask around. next to Mermaids is Hermes who I always use. NEVER hire mopeds.
When getting taxis always agree the fee before you set off, and never hire the horse and cart rides unless you want to be ripped off.

(7) The Beach

Rather than hiring sunbeds, buy a li-lo (dirt cheap) from one of the shops and lie on that on the beach, saves quite a few quid! You can also use it in the pool etc. the sand on the beach does get very hot, so take flipflops etc!(8) General

The Greeks are the friendliest people I`ve ever met and will remember you in years to come. sadly a lot of Brits let themslves down in Greece with slobbish behaviour, but give respect and you will get lastin friendships and will be well looked after!

(9) I always avoid Indian/Chinese type restaurants, firstly as I can have that for the same price in England and second it`s not authentic and generally poor quality. Try Greek dishes such as stuffed vine leaves, kleftiko, swordfish lemonato, the steaks, and Mermaids do the biggest Mixed Grill you`ll ever see for about £11. Their chicken chardonnay (although not a Greek dish) is to die for!
Tip well, it`s appreciated and you`ll be rewarded with extras on following visits

(10) If going to Laganas have a good time, it`s a party resort, but don`t go on the beach alone at night for safety reasons and the very occasional robbery

(11) Make sure you have your E111 forms before you go

(12) Greek people do get mildly offended if you refuse generosity or gifts, often I`ve been given a shot of a liqueur etc and have had to drink it or pass it on when not in view (!), but it`s a Greek tradition to be generous with guests, especially those with respect for the local people and customs!

(13) Never buy the tours off the reps as they`re double the price of the local run ones, and don`t do a full trip round the island by boat, you`ll burn and be seasick!

(14) Zante town is great for local gifts and souvenirs and has many authentic Greek bars and restaurants, check the opening times as they do have siesta etc

(15) Expect to pay a small cover charge (about 60 cents) per person when dining, all restaurants charge it and it includes bread.

(16) Cigarette prices are set by the government, there is little scope for haggling. BUY in Kalamaki not Laganas, some poorer quality cigs in Laganas that aren`t always what they say on the packet! Sofia`s shop near Mermaids is excellent, as is a tiny little shop next to the Sirocco hotel run by a lovely lady who is very grateful for any large cig orders!

(17) Aftershaves/perfumes etc are cheapest in the airport on the return journey, (and you can put them in your hand luggage after weighing along with cigs hehe)

(18) There`s a few stray dogs and cats which are quite harmless that you will see, some will trot into the restaurants, they are perfectly friendly and only want a bit of fuss or food.
You`ll also see lots of lizards which climb up walls, again no danger, they`ll run off first!Hope this helps, any info I can give email me anytime on ultrasound@supanet.comChris

taxis from the airport should be about 12 euros max mate, but it`s first come first served, it seems a lot of people aren`t bothering with transfers this year so get your cases and nip out and flag one down!

Hope the above helps!

Dean J

I will be going to kalamaki on the 4th of july 04.
We will be staying in the Hotel Bitzaro Palace.
But we will be getting a taxi from the airport to our hotel, can anyone tell us how much it will cost us.
plus any other advise will be helpfull, as its our first time to Zante

Dan M

Keep walking right to the end of the beach, over the headland and you'll find the most secluded private nudist beach you'll ever want.

Jacqueline S

Hi there peeps, am going to Zante for second time tomorrow and was wondering how far Laganas is from Buon Amici (pasta place) in Kalamaki. Will be starting there on Sunday and will be living in Laganas and want to know whether it can be 'walked?' Also, what is the 'drunk bar' like next to Buon Amici as that'll probably end up being my regular watering hole!
Thanks!!

Chris C

For anyone going to Kalamaki for the first time you`ll love it here, and I hope you all have a great holiday! There`s something for all ages, this will be my eigth holiday here and I go twice a year, the local people are brilliant and believe me you`ll make great friends who genuinely want you to enjoy yourselves!

If anyone`s going for the first time and need any help I`ll be glad to help in any way, email me at ultrasound@supanet.com

For all those going back (and all the usual gang) that I see each year i`m arriving 5th July for 2 weeks and will be doing some DJing at Kalamaki`s newest bar/club and it`s for all the family too), Plus Soda next to the fantastic Mermaids so if any of you want to find me I`ll be there or eating in Mermaids each night!

Michaela S

where is the water park situated in kalamaki? cos we r goin at the end of june and would love to visit.

John P

alan ,cashpoints are safe to use ,but if i was you id take stirling cheques or english cash, there is no commission charge ,i went in may and was getting 143 -144 euro.however euro cheques will carry commission charges of 1 or 2 %

John P

a taxi from the airport to dennys inn should cost no more than 12 euros, youll be there in 10 mins ,ask the driver for a price first and he may drop it to 10 if you haggle a little

Alan B

I am going to Kalamaki in July. Are the cashpoints any good to use or is it safer to take travellers cheques?

Lynsey B

Kalamaki is the best resort if you want a chilling out holiday. There are plenty of great restaurants and bars to choose from, also enough shops to keep you busy. We noticed that since last May it has grown even more, but hopefully it won't be the same as Laganas which we feel is now even more geared up for the 18-30's. We can't wait until October for our next trip, even if a lot of places are closing we know we will still have a great time.

Casey W

Hi how much do you think it would cost to get a taxi transfer from the airport to my hotel dennys inn? jmc are gonna charge me £20 is that reasonable? Thomson are giving it for free!!

Gary S

Lesley Olson - feel free to e mail me if you want any info on the Amaryllis. We have just returned from there. Gtschofield@aol.com

Gary S

Isobel - The first Flight is at 6am, the last at approx 11pm. The noise has never bothered us in all the time we have been to Kalamaki.

Gary S

Lil G - Go to the Venus. We had our honeymoon there. Great Hotel. The Exotica is a Thomson Superfamily Hotel - Therefore lots of kids. The Venus is opposite the exotica, approx a 5/10 mins walk from the beach.

Pamela P

This was our first trip aboard and we thought Kalamaki was very relaxed and laid back, there was a lot of rubbish by the sides of rubbish by the side of the roads but you got used to it and wasn't a big problem. There are some lovely restaurants. Pathenon on the main road is a must. Lovely place to eat (We went approx 10 nights out of 14). Beach was a bit disappointing so we waled on the beach to Lagana which was much better. It took about 45 mins but was a nice walk. Sunbeds in Lagana were 4 euros each for the day. A taxi from there to Kalamaki was 6 euros. Don't try and get the bus from Kalamaki to Zante Town. We tried a few times and they only run 3 times a day and they are packed when they get to Kalamaki. 7 euros in a taxi.
We went 1st two weeks in May and not everything was open. Too early to go everything was open etc as we were coming home. But never mind it was lovely.
Have a lovely time!!

Kay

Hi Lil G
We have just got back from the Exotica. Nice hotel, but very family and children orientated. If it is just you and your boyfriend, you had better like children. The Venus is just across the road, but I don't really know what it is like.
Both hotels are about a 5 mins walk to the beach. Both are in a good location for the shops, tavernas, etc.
Kalimaki is a more laid back, relaxing resort. If you are after great nightlife and a hotel right on the beach, Laganas might be for you.
Hope this helps.

Cheryl

Hi Lynsey. we went to the water park last August just after it opened and really enjoyed....after we found it!!!!!!! Keeps the kids amused for hours,be warned stick to the green "carpet" when walking round because it gets very slippy and I saw a few people take a slip and land heavily including myself.
The water shoots are fast and yes I did venture onto them, much to my stomachs dismay lol. When are you going? There is a pool for liltots too, also a pool with a jacuzzi in it,thats refreshing!! Enjoy your holiday xxx

Janet H

We have just come back from kalamaki, we stayed at the tonia and dionysis studios and it was great, basic but clean and tidy. Lots of good places to eat, Mermaids was about the best we found. Walked into Lagana a few times along the beach, boat trip was dissapointing as we had to turn back just after smugglers cove as the sea was too choppy. So we didnt get all around the island. Nice place, lovely friendly people and nice scenery. Word of warning the cash point in kalamaki was never working!!!

Lynsey B

Has anyone been to the new water park on Zante? we are off soon, and I know the kids would love it,also does anyone know if Kalamaki has changed much since May 2003? (new bars, restaurants etc.)

Isobel B

Going to Kalamaki at end of July and understand there can be quite a lot or aircraft noise. Can anyone tell me what time the first flight is and what time the last ones arrive/depart.

Thanks

I have been going to Zante for 10 years and will be at the Hotel Exotica in August as well with my grand daughter. We chose the hotel because it seems to have a lot going on for children. Every time we passed there seemed to some kind of entertainment for the children going on.
Nicola
The milk is in colour coded cartons, blue and green, I'm sure one is full fat - I don't think the Greeks have fully skimmed milk. There is a Sainsbury style supermarket in Zante town but most smaller shops sell the milk as well. Any problems see Maria at the Escape Resturant, she speaks very good english. Escape is in Kalamaki near Hotel Exotica.

Faye W

We are going to Kalamki in August with our two boys (7 & 9), staying at Hotel Exotica.
What is there for children to do? Days out, excurions etc. Any ideas?!

Lorraine B

hi simon try this part of the site http://www.zante.me.uk/forum/index.php?board=8

Anne P

Kalamaki is a wonderful resort. The people cannot do enough for you, and make you feel really welcome. This year will be our fourth year back there. It has everything we want. Panaramic views, peacful surroundings, safe beaches, plenty of shops, and evening entertainment if you want it. We have 3 children who feel safe and comfortable here. They and us have made plenty of friends. Must go to Dennis's taverna on the main road to Zante town, best food, and you are well looked after.

Claire C

I am travelling to Kalamaki in May and my son
needs full fat pasturised milk could someone tell me if this is avaliable at the local shops Or would i have too bring my own??

Lesley B

the airport is very near to kalamaki, but there are no flights at night (because of the turtles). its nice to watch them flying in and out, after a day or so you wont even notice them. please dont let the proximity of the airport put you off, its really not a problem

Ann B

Is Kalamaki affected by aircraft noise?

Micael J

Going back to Zakynthos in July (13-20/7) this summer, were here in July last year and liked Kalamaki, where I stayed, very much! Made some good friends here, the beaches and weather was great also!Anyone staying in Kalamaki between July 13-20th?

Kalamaki is amazing. Stayed in Zante everytime I have been to Zante. Wouldn't dream of going anywhere else.
The locals are so friendly, the restaurants are brilliant and the beach is the best I have seen in my life.
Kalamaki is my number 1 choice. Can't wait until the next time I go to Zante on my holidays.

I DO NOT have one bad thing to say about Kalamaki!!!

Kippax C

Spiros B

Hi everyone! It's Spiros and Babbis from Escape restaurant! Do you remember us? This year we open our new bar "CHILL OUT" in Kalamaki, very close (30m) to Escape restaurant. Nice music, many cold cocktails, big TVs for football & other events, delicious greek food & of course the best service! We hope to see you again this summer in "CHILL OUT" bar!!! x x x x

Sylvie H

We stayed in Kalamaki for 2 weeks in August 2003 at the Roseland Hotel. Did quite a lot of lazing around but did hire a jeep for 2 days and explored the island. We really enjoyed our time and I thought for a Greek hotel the Roseland was great. We are in our 40's (yep getting old!!)and our days of noise at night are long gone, so the Roselandsuits us just fine. Having lived in Greece some years ago and therefore well acquainted with their cuisine, I must say that I thought the quality of the food in Kalamaki was exceptional. We tried lots of places and weren't disappointed by any. Stani's on the beach was v good (do the best cheese and spinach pies)and they have a Greek night on Sundays.Escape,Hera,Mikaelo's Pandesina were also good, but our favourite was Paris Taverna, which is down the far end of Kalamaki. The Greek food was terrific and it has a lovely setting away from the main road. The staff were extremely efficient and friendly. If you read this Ken, I would certainly recommend this as a place for your celebration in August.
We would definitely consider returning for an injection of sun any time!

Barry H

Dear Pamela
if you don't have a great time at Dasies i would be surprised, we,ve been going there for the last four years.places i would recomend
without doubt,Mikealos, mermaids and the Rainbow taverna for eating,if
you want a wild night out get a cab to Lagana,if you like the water go on a boat trip around the island(it's a long day take a packed lunch)and don't be fooled by the postcards the beach at the shipwreck is stoney.Peter,Andraer and Dennis run the poolside bar at D's if you want or need anything i would ask them or Daisey,(yes she does excist)
one more thing you must go to Peter's Greek night, if they don't get you dancing you must be dead.also if you like to walk do the beach you can get to Lagana along there and if your lucky you might see a Turtle

Pamela P

We are visiting Kalamaki for the first time this may and are staying at Daisy's. If anyone has got any advice on nice places to eat etc we would appreciate it. Also places to avoid would be good!!

Lorraine B

Hi Ken we have tried lots of restaurants we like zepos / olive tree but this time when we go back in august we are going to try mikaelos as it has very good ratings they say the best in kalamaki. what date are you going in august and where are you staying have you checked out the restaurant comments page on this site.

Ken P

We are going to Kalamaki in August to celebrate my wife's 50th birthday. Can anyone recommend good restaurants which will help us celebrate well?

Teresa H

hello,
has anybody got any info on the costas apartments in kalamaki, going there in may with my husband and daughter and my parents, any info good or bad would be very helpful.
thanks

Alex A

Hiya, I'm also from sheffield and we stayed in kalamaki last year. It was nice to go to the beach which isn't far, and the sea is shallow for quite a way which means its good for the kids. There are bars everywhere so you don't have to walk far to them either, and everywhere does nice decent food. We had a takeaway from a chinese restaurant which was really nice, and fairly cheap if on a budget. Hope you find this helpful and have a good holiday!

Steve P

hi we are going to kalamaki a party of 8 5 adults and 3 kids, staying at sirene apartments. we are a family from sheffield looking for a good holiday any pointers for us to follow. we know its a walk to town for night life but thats ok.

Steven J

Teresa H

HI,MY FAMILY AND I ARE GOING TO ZANTE 23RD MAY O4 STAYING AT THE COSTAS APARTMENTS IN KALAMAKI,ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT,

Lorraine B

Hi Barry we are going back to kalamaki this year for our 3rd year its a lovely place eating out is good and fairly reasonable we were paying between 35 to 45 euros a night for 5 of us with drinks but can be more depends were you eat. the new water park opened last year while we were there but was still a bit raw around the edges being new but was told it was good and should improve for next season. we have to little ones but all they wanted to do was stay round the pool. 1st year the bus service was not good when you got to the bus stop it said come back tomorow but last year they had a new service which was excellent you should be able to get a timetable from your
hotel it was cheap and reliable and ran between the main resorts but saying that car hire is good but shop around and is the best way to see the island book it local not with the reps. hope this helps let us know if you need any more help.

Barry B

Myself and my wife and 2 kids aged 5&3, are going to kalamaki in june. Do i need car hire, or is there good bus/coach sevice? Where is unmissable for my kids? How much does it cost to eat out?

Margaret G

We stayed at Kalamaki for two weeks at the beginning of September. During the course of our holiday we discovered the Zakynthos Animal Welfare Fund - the only animal welfare organisation on the island. It is a charity run by a small group of British people who have the almost impossible task of treating, caring for, spaying and neutering, and rehoming when possible, all sorts of animals on Zakynthos. They also undertake feeding programmes to try to help animals on the island during the winter months when all the tourists have gone.

If you are an animal lover please consider helping Z.A.W.F., they would be really grateful! Their address is Z.A.W.F., P.O. Box 229, 29100 Zakynthos, Greece. A calendar can be purchased (6 euros) to help the animals, from Janine at the Hotel Exotica. (Along the main street in Kalamaki, take the turning by the Zakanoh restaurant which leads to the beach.)

John W

Very basic & most closing down for the winter.Go at this time if you need a quick break in sun.Keep mosquito repellent handy though & plenty wasps too.Get a hire car & go off roading if you are there.Food is ok,shop around for cheapest(same offered in all restaurants)

Pat G

I have just arrived back from 2 weeks at Kalamaki and must say it was wonderful. I was a little bothered that arriving on the 8th till 22nd October the weather would not be too good. We arrived in a storm and had to circle Kefalonia for 1 hour as it was too dangerous to try to land but the next day the sun came out and it was wonderful. We had a storm the following Thursday and then again the following week but it is coming to winter after all !. In between it was hot and sunny and I really loved it. I ate at the Mermaids and the food was wonderful, Con and the gang looked after all the customes so well and the atmosphere especially on the Greek Nights was great. Cant wait to go back.

A H

We went on holiday 4th September this year and stayed at the Cavo D' Oro Hotel in Kalamaki. First impressions were not favourable as the front of the hotel does little for its image. I would say to anyone staying at this Hotel and indeed at this resort, to give it a chance and try not to judge the place too hastily.

As a result of a breakdown in communication between the booking office, the hotel and Airtours, we found ourselves allocated in accomodation that was not to the standared we had been promised. 2 members of our party had travelled on before us and so when my husband and I arrived at the hotel, we were met by our Airtours Rep Emma, who had the unenviable task of telling us that the rooms we had expected, had not in fact been booked. I give credit to this young lady, because even though she knew that we would be far from pleased in getting this information, she had waited in her own time to greet us and explain the situation in person.

Emma was by far the best Rep we have ever had and Airtours have much to thank her for. This young lady was extremely calm under pressure and always ready to listen and empathise. Emma tried her utmost to re locate our party of 4 to another hotel but did ask if we would allow her the time to do this. Of course, being reasonable people,we obliged. To her absolute credit Emma did manage to find us another Hotel, The Diana Palace in Argassi, however, by this time we had settled in just fine at the Cavo D'Oro. I would also like to add that Emma was always available and we always knew where and when we could find her. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and this did compensate for the very basic facilities within the rooms. However, the showers were hot, the beds clean and the people smashing.

The resort itself was not exactly buzzing, but it suited our requirements, those being good food, drink, nice people and a decent beach. Mermaids was wonderful and Clauds bar welcoming and fun.

Margaret B

Don't worry about the weather because if it rains it pours!! But you are guaranteed a beautiful sunny day when the storm clears. Last Wednesday there was a storm and wind and rain all through the day and into the night (8 Oct 03) But by next morning the sun was shining and the sky was blue and I had to fly home! There are many friendly local bars in Kalamaki. Al Sandros is the best. Lambros restaurant is wonderful for a meal or a drink and chat and also Zakanthe on the main road will welcome you for drinks in cosy sophisticated surroundings. Also the Appollo was one of my favourites. Mustang and Angels a little too noisy. The best place for a refuge from the storm is the place on the main road where Penny makes huge delicious pancakes. I know because I spent 2 hours sheltering from the rain last Wednesday chatting to gorgeous hunk Stelios. Everywhere is friendly like the people. Have a good time all you lucky people going for the last 2 weeks of the season. I will be back for the start next spring. Hopefully to work there next year.

Sam G

Flying out to Kalamaki this Sunday (19th) for a week, staying at Denny's Inn Hotel. Looked at the weather forcast and it doesn't look good - thunderstorms? Anyone been in Oct before, whats weather usually like? Be great to hear if anyone else going next week, also suggestions of what to do if I can't lie by the pool all day and how far are the bars/restaurants from Denny's Inn?
Thanks

Margaret B

I have just returned home to Lancashire after 2 more wonderful weeks in my favourite Greek resort of Kalamaki. The weather was changeable but I have a nice golden tan and many more memories of Kalamaki and Zante. Every time I return I meet more warm friendly people and enjoy myself to the full. I have some photos to share of my crazy nights with friends in Kalamaki and beautiful days on the green island of Zakynthos.

Jeanette C

Still the finest resort on the island with lots of warm friendly people. It has everything close by and there are lots to do and see.

Julie M

Just back from Kalamaki and really liked it. It was a bit quiet but that is how we like it. We were in the Bitzaro Grande Hotel which is absolutely beautiful. It has over 500 rooms but only 18 were in use when we were there, we virtually had the place to ourselves. A stroll along the beach each morning was lovely and along the strip at night was good. I tended to go with the 'Kalamaki top ten' and ate at reccommended restaurants like Michaelas and Dias. We also visited the Cave Bar and Down Under Bar and enjoyed that. I would definately go back but maybe a bit earlier in September.

Christopher D

Returned 25/9 great resort everything to hand, if you like the nightlife then you need Laganas, Beach was ok we hired a moped and got about a bit great resturants except Castello it was peaceful and tranquil just perfect for couples woild i return? you bet i would

Sandra W

Paul and I just returned on the 21st Sept. We spent 2 top weeks eating some of the best food (vegetarians like me well catered for!)and sunning ourselves at Kalamaki Beach Hotel. We were guests at Golden Sun Hotel but found it a souless place. Drank lush cocktails at Bitzaro Palace and Antonis Pool Bar and ate the best value buffet at Hotel Klelia -was only 6 and a half euros who wouldn't?. Do try Olive Tree if you are vegetarian. Had plenty of free beer at Alsandros Bar (we're not cheapskates,we won it fair an' square!)Lee, if you have an e-mail, I'll send you some Nick Drake/Tim Buckley snippets to listen to.

Paula N

Second time to Kalamaki, stayed at Daisy's in 1998 and Cavo D'Oro for the last 2 weeks in Sept this year. Would highly recommend both!!!
Lots has changed since '98, Kalamaki main strip (main road to laganas) was just an empty road with nothing on it!! Was really suprised at how much Kalamaki has expanded.
Still love it though.
Best places to eat are Mermaids, Paris Taverna and Chives Roof Garden near Crystal Beach.
Best bar by far is the Mustang Saloon with Stuart and Julie. Great for kids too!!!
Definately going back next year for the honeymoon!!!

Paul & Sam

Stayed in Kalamaki first two weeks in September and thoroughly enjoyed it. Perfect for couples and families and for a livelier night then Laganas is only a short taxi ride away. Must be twinned with Manchester as every other person seemed to be from there and even more surprising some of them actually supported Man Utd.

Roger & Gabby

A welcome return and this time we again stopped in Tasos Villas. We wanted a good beach, plenty of good places to eat and a quiet nightlife, Kalamaki has it all in spades. Already dreaming of the next time :-)

Nicola F

Me and my fiance went to kalimaki in august and stayed at the Dias Studios! Definately the best holiday i have ever had thanks to the company we had and the people that owned the place especially Labros!
The standards of this place are brilliant and the people so friendly, the Dias restraunt is definatly a must to anyone who goes to Kalimaki, the food, the people and the generally feel of the place is just brilliant! Looking forwad to going back next year!
ps... Labros&Lisa, hope your both well. nic x

Hi
Just came back from Kalamaki, 3rd visit to same resort, First year stayed at Kalamaki beach hotel, not bad, but didn't think the staff too friendly, second year stayed at Crystal Beach Hotel, really enjoyed the hotel. This year we went to Sunset Beach Hotel, a little bit further away from the beach than last two, but the apartments really clean and staff very friendly. A resturant to visit is Vakhos which is run by Marios, he has become a very good friend and is always open and friendly too all his customers, the food is above average and you get a great welcome there. Its situated on the opposite side of the road to where the Cave Bar goes.

Steven J

Margaret B

I love Kalamaki and so do my family. We return to Kalamaki year after year. The beach is the best and quietest with no water sports alowed in the area. You can go for long walks or cycle or get a taxi into Laganas or Zante town from Kalamaki. Everyone is so friendly I feel as though it is my second home now. I have many photos to share of the place and the people I know. Long live happy holiday times in Kalamaki.

Laura S

iv just come bak from Kalimaki, went with my ex boyfriend. we went for a week, and stayed in Hotel Maralen, which was about 100m from the nature protected beach,we only went there once, not really a sunbathing beach,so stayed at the pool, nice hotel!we had to get a taxi to Laganas at 6euros each way! not bad, nice restaurants. kalimakis best was Mermaids, it had loads on offer, and big portions! had a lush holiday, bit spoiled by thunderstorms though! all in all i recommend our hotel, very peachful, bed and breakfast basis!Enjoy ur hols everyone! x

Lisa J

Kalamaki is very much a quiet families and couples type resort, with a good choice of restaurants and a few bars. Although we did like Kalamaki. it is essential to hire a car and get out and about to see the real Zante. The island is beautiful, you wouldn't get the real effect if you only stayed in Kalamaki. However, if you just want a resort based holiday where you relax by the pool all day and have a meal and a few drinks at night, Kalamaki will be your perfect choice!

Nikki P

My family are off to kalamaki in october for a week, there is myself, my boyfriend and our 2 four year old lads, i was wondering if any1 could give me a rough estimation of how much spending money im gonna need as i havent got the foggiest thanx alot.

Sarah M

spent 2 weeks at the metaxa hotel this august. friendly, clean and newly refurbished. get the air con-its a must. 5 euros a day. resort is small, plenty of places to eat. mermaids is the same as every other restaurant. the food is very good, lots to choose from. dont bother going to zante town-nothing there. the crusie around the island costs 11e each, you see everything at once. the trip to kefelonia is a must just for the caves and the lake-its brilliant-but beware admission to the two is not included. 8e per person extra. bring more films with you then you think you will need.

Joe J

We've been to the island of zante six times and every time stayed at the friendly resort of kalmaki, Fur of those six time we stayed at the antonis appartments which has the most fraindly staff and lovley pool. if any one stays there ask to see Laki's (the night barman and other brother) lizard. Alsandros bar run by lee is the best bar you could find.

Becki W

Are there any teenagers (around 14) going to kalamaki october 2003?? E-mail : shake_yer_ass_@hotmail.com

Julie M

Nicole, I am going to the Bitzaro Grande in a few weeks. Can you tell my anything about it, your opinion etc.

Nicole S

Just got back from kalamaki half our family stayed in the kalamaki beach hotel and the rest of us in the bitzaro grande hotel, both really nice hotels. The restaurants are really nice and cheap, the best places to eat are Mermaids and paulos very friendly. The best bar is the Rose and Crown really friendly english pub. There is also a really gd club called down under for most ages, really cool barstaff and lots of entertainment. Best holiday eva!!!

Catherine W

for those worrying about chaos bar, the phone number given on the business card is 0030695 43044. you could give them a ring and see if they are still there. i have what i think is a home number for the family but do not wish to post it here for obvious reasons. going to kalamaki again soon, will let you know an update...

Christine S

Just returned from the hotel Marelen (2 bed SC family rooms are luxurious) . Excellent for families, airplanes no problem lucky if 10 a day. Never had a bad meal all restaurants excellent especially Amaryllis Taverna (just off the main rd opposite gregory`s supermarket)and the Olive Tree has probably the best Rose ive drank at approx £3.00 a carafe (couldnt bring a keg home unfortunately). Thought mermaid was very commercial (play station and english staff) all other restaurants very authentic you must try the Stifadho Kleftiko and baclava. Cheaper to eat out than self cater hotel V reasonable.

Andrew A

We stayed at Cavo D'oro in the centre and we liked Kalamaki, it is quite quiet but there is a good mix of couples and families with quite a few bars and if you want really lively nightlife then Laganas is only a 6 euro taxi fare away.

Keith B

Staying at the rainbow apartments, any information will be very helpfull has any tried the taverna ajoining the apartments.what are prices like now with the euro.

Chris B

just got back from kalamaki, loved it we went with our 8 yr old son and stayed at the hotel marelen, the hotel was lovely the pool clean and only 5 mins from the beach, a lovely walk in the evening up to the main street took 10 mins or cost 5 euros in a taxi. the choice of resteraunts was great, but a few worth more than one visit, especially paulos and the olive tree. the airport is a nightmare coming home take plenty of water and snacks as it is very dear.
if you need any info or tips please email me we also hired a car and saw most of the island.

Kalamaki is a really peaceful place, with great top quality restaurants. The sites and views are great! you can take some great photos. Just got back today, and were missing it already!

Kalamaki has just enough to have a good time without being too buisy. The locals are really friendly and happy to help.

Sharon W

We stopped at Dionysis/tonia apartments last year and Denise who owns Dionysis is one wonderful lady[been back to see her 3 times in last 12 months]Some really nice places to eat-Boun Amicis being my fav but a new rooftop resturant has opned near the taxi rank at the other end of Kalamaki which is really cheap and decent food. The cave bar is really nice and the ride in the mini moke is good fun.Breakfasts at the lighthouse resturant[at the far end of Kalamaki]are really nice but the evening meal is really good[owned by an english couple].Hoping to get back again in August 2003 to look for a place to buy out there

Sandie S

Just returned and had a great time! Everthing is on one road which can become a trek to the beach but well worth a few visits. For four adults to have a main meal and drinks the average price is 26-34 eruos so shop about and look at the prices on the boards outside. Supermarket prices seemed to be the same as do drinks. The best place for snacks is at the hotels as not many places did this but remember you can use any pool and any bar at all the hotels. Cheaper to take food to the beach as very little choice when you get there unless you are prepeared to walk. Super clear beach but whatch out the sand warms just vas quick as the water.

Gail H

Thanks for the taxi info everyone. Can't wait now. I want to pack the suitcase but my hubby won't let me yet.

Jayne

A taxi from the airport costs 9 euros. It is a standard fare with all the taxi firms.

Trevor M

We are a family of four going to Dionysis and Tonia apartments on the 12th of August 2003, My son is 8 and my daughter is 15, can you recommend some good cheap places to eat and drink and any activities to keep the kids and us happy.
Also the best supermarkets to visit.
Any reports on the apartments would also be helpful.
thanks
Trevor

Martin +

we have just arrived back from kalamaki and for the 3rd year running we have had an amazing time. we have stayed at the hotel marelen twice before but this time we stayed at the kalamaki beach. both hotels are excellent, the marelen's rooms are more modern ie double glazing etc but the kalamaki beach is more peaceful at night. unfortunately we still haven't seen a turtle so we will have to go back next year!!! Finally, the reason that we go back is because of PAOLO's restuarant, the food, atmosphere and staff are brilliant. we have been to kalamaki three times and never eaten anywhere else. so, thanks to Pavlos, Denis, Yiannis, Teo, Anthoni, Ilias, Andrea and Maria for another memorable year. see you next year

J H

There are cash points in Kalamaki, which is how I used to get my money!! They are on the main road, theo ne I used was next to the Off Licence and jewellery shop up near the Cronulla Hotel.

TOURISTS: Watch out for the "No Commission Scam" I saw on TV last night, it usually applies to changes over 3000 euros (about £1800) its in the small print, and probably in Greek, apparently a common scam in Greece, Spain etc. Attracts you in with excellent exchange rate but makes money back in comission on exchanges under 3000 euros.

Graham A

Going to Kalamaki on 18 August. Are there any cash machines there or do I need to bring travellers cheques?

Katherine H

Just returned from two weeks at the Kalamaki Beach Hotel... FANTASTIC. Bit unsure at first but we settled right in and the staff were so kind and friendly. You must try Paulo's restaurant on the main road. They were the best.

Lynette H

What a brilliant holiday. Every thing you could need. Got there and thought it was a bit quiet but laganas is only a stroll along the beach if it is night life you are looking for. The beach was amazing. Saw a turtle which was great. To do this hire a pedalo and go out as far as possible. There is a large selection of shops and resturants. The greek cusine is amazing. If the hotel doesn't have a pool or even if it does all hotels welcome you to theirs. We found some amazing pools and they all do food and drinks. Some where you must go is the cave bar. Amazing veiws and really nice cocktails. You can sit in a cave and drink or sit and look at the amazing views and you even get a free ride up and down! Say 'hi' to Rossie who was our lift. Aussie bar is great too for a bit of up beat fun.

John N

Howling dogs were a problem outside the Crystal Hotel, where we stayed
Seemed to be at it all night and we missed a lot of sleep
Hotel and rep didn`t seem to care, be warned.
Plus the fact there didn`t seem to be any form of Policing to control the unbelievable bad standard of driving and motorbike riding, the streets on most afternoons become raceways, speed limits don`t exist.

Joenchelle W

could anyone tell us if there are day trips to Kefalonia? ive heard there are no cooking facilaties and no fridge in the rooms, how did everyone keep drinks cold?Has anyone tried scoba diving in Zante, if yes was it a good dive? My boyfriend is talking about hiring a boat and going over to turtle island, anyone done that, if yes was it any good? Email at joeNchelle@hotmail.com Ta

Gail H

Hi

Going to Kalamaki for the 1st time on August 24th. Can anyone tell me how much a taxi from the airport should cost.

Thanks

Andy A

Just back from our hols. We were there between 17th june- 1st july. We went group, 9 adults 2 children, various ages. Well what can I say, the resort was spot on, great beach, lovely people, plenty of great resturants and bars. Very quiet resort with regards to sight seeing etc. but enough trips to book around the resort to see some fantastic scenary. A must is the days cruise around the island, not only for the sights but the breeze is a welcome change because it was very hot!!(over the hundreds both weeks). Other must do's are: A turtle spotting trip, visit the down under bar, eat at mermaids (the steak challange and ribs were great), visit the cave bar(before sunset and get the seats in the tower), and a meal on chives roof top before sunset also a must. We have agreed that we would definatly return in the near future. Pack your high sun creams and have a great time, regards the Ayers clan.

Katherine B

I am just back from Kalamaki, stayed in Golden Sun Hotel, so if anyone needs any info feel free to e mail me at katehome@eircom.net

I am travelling soon to Kalamaki. Can any one tell me if the local ATM machines accept Irish AIB banklink cards?

Thanks Aoife

D'hont J

WE are going to bitzaro grande hotel, what is it like?
Where's the best place to go diner and the best place to hire a scooter?

Matt R

Kalamaki has the right mix of everything from its restaurants and bars to the sites that are all around you (the hills, beach ect...).It has the best restaurants on the whole of Zante.I would definatly come back.

Gillian K

if anyone is about to consider going to kalamaki, we would strongly recommend to stay at costa's apartments, its family run and the people are so glad to see you and very friendly. The local shop up the road, sofia's is also really good, again with lovely people running it. For food we would recommend tazie's take out, yum! Erm Spagetto-mania, fab food, very filling! Tesaro's do cracking grilled salmon and swordfish. We had never been to greece before, and we're just back 2 days, already surfing the net to book for costa's again next year. One thing though is it can be extremely hot out there, around 10am it's around 35c at this time of year and gets hotter so be prepared. But wouldn't hesitate to go back. If you go with jmc then we highly recommend the top of the pops 2 theme night done by the reps, a fab night had by all. See you soon dennis and family take care xx

Steve H

Kalamaki is a lovely little resort overflowing with very nice friendly resteraunts,We paticularly liked Michalos,Zeppos,Rainbow,Lambros, but I am sure that most of them are pretty good!!
The beach in Kalamaki is great too, nice & shallow making it nice & safe for young kids,All the hotels & appartments with pools welcome everyone too, which is nice to see, as long as you buy a drink,(no hardship there!!)
We went on the 9th of June,The weather was excellent, a little too hot if anything, temps reaching into the 40's!!
We have been to Zante several times now & we find Kalamaki one of the nicest resorts, anyone who would like to ask more about Kalamaki or Zante please email me I would be happy to tell you whatever I can.
My email address is steveinwales42@aol.com.
Akll the best to anyone who is visiting Kalamaki,Enjoy, All the best Steve & Janet Hughes N.Wales

Him My friend and I are going to Zante in September and we are staying in the Anagenises aparthotel in Kalamaki. Have seen it in the brochure, but can`t find any info on it anywhere else. Has anyone been there, and what is it like?

Louise B

I went to Kalamaki in May and it was fantastic. We had a heatwave while we were there so the temperature rarely dropped below 95 degrees. The beach was 10mins walk away and when we were there it was like we had it to ourselves. Very clean, clear and calm. The food was fantastic and caters for everyone from restaurants to cafes. If you fancy a trip to Laganas it takes about 40mins walk or in a taxi about 5mins and costs about £4-5. The only bad thing about Zante was that it had the smallest airport i have ever seen, one luggage carousel, one door in and one door out. The depature lounge is tiny and they just try and squash you all in there which is not good when there is about 600 people in one room and your flight is delayed like ours (4 hours) All in all though we had a fantastic time. If anyone has any questions about Kalamaki then you can e-mail me on louisebowley@hotmail.com.

Mr&mrs G

Sandie, depends on where you are staying??

Jean R

Arrived back from Daisy's in Kalamaki on 1st June. In reply to some of the earlier questions on this page. There is a scuba diving centre at Aghios Nikolaos on Vassilikos peninsula and I believe there is a daily tourist bus there from Kalamaki and other resorts if you don't want to get a car. We got a brand new Hyundai Getz with air con from Merlis. 7 days was E180. Sunbeds were E8 for 2+brolly. We usually had a starter and main course and two drinks each for E22 to E28 but didn't choose the dearest things on the menu. Some of the Greek stews done in the oven are delicious. Cocktails were generally E2.50 and a large Amstel E2 -E2.50. Wine was about E3 a half bottle or half carafe. It was E2.50 a bottle in supermarket. Water E1.40 for 6 at Sofia's. Two teas and cakes at the bakery were about 7 Euros. Sun cream is dear E7 -E12, get it from Tesco, only £2.66 if you can carry it! Hope this helps.

Matt C

Anyone been to Dias Studios in Kalamaki? I might be going there in 3 weeks but can't find any reviews of it.
Cheers

Saffie C

looking for idea of this years prices anyone been can tell me cost of meals/beer/cocktails/trips/soft drinks. ta

Pete C

We Love Kalimaki but our accomodation has been changed this year to the Rainbow Apartments. Ive seen the pictures in the brochure and know where it is, just about, but wondered if anyone has stayed and has any comments?

F G

There is a cash point in Kalamki now. It's on the main road near the Off Licence and Gold shop quite near the Cronulla Hotel and Pool.

Nick L

Yes, there was two cash machines. I only used it once on a Sunday morning and it still paid out after being heavily used since it was probably filled up on Friday.
If you want to exchange cash - do it in Zante, you will get better rates there than the UK.

Nick L

Great place for both worlds and enough restuarants etc to keep the variety.
We spent a night in Laganos. It reminded me of the tv programs Ibiza Uncut !!! Great if your 18 (Lads-get yourselves into Laganos if your looking for ladies- There was about 8 girls to men there!!).

A F

Can any one tell me if there is a cash point in Kalamaki?

Thanks

F G

Have just returned from Kalamaki. My boyfriend and I ar eboth mid 20's and chose this resort as it had what we believe the best of both worlds. There are a vast choice of restaurants and if you know what to have 2 starters, 2 mains and 4-6 drinks will cost approx 35-40 euros. Taxis into Laganas can be caught at the rank and cost between 6-7 euros (always arrange your price before you get in though as they have don’t have meters!!). It is peaceful and relaxing on this resort. Nightlife is limited but Laganas is close by.
As mentioned below there are a lot of ‘best British breakfast places’, and ‘English pubs’ but these can be avoided if not your cup-of-tea as there are plenty of Greek tavernas around. The Cave Bar is a beautiful setting for an evening drink, try to get up there when the sun is setting.
The beach is lovely and clean and peaceful, very geared towards looking after the turtles, hence the cleanliness!! The seabed goes out for miles at a very level gradient. I would recommend buying a snorkel to swim out deeply and see if you can spot anything!! Sun beds can be hired for about 8 euros for 2 and I would suggest getting one and sand mites liked to feast on flesh!! Also getting there any later than 10-11am means you stand less chance of a sundbed, although the guy who runs them will try his best to get you one but space is limited as it is a the turtles beach. The sun is incredibly hot and there is no other shade than an umbrella so be careful!! We only stayed for a week but I will definitely return one day, for longer as I thought this resort was great we just didn’t have long enough to try all that we wanted.

Gerald I

WE HAD AN EXELLENT TIME IN KALAMAKI OUR HOTEL THE EXOTICA WAS VERY NICE WITH PLENTY OF THINGS FOR KIDS AND ADULTS TO DO.THE BEACH IS A BIT BLAND AT FIRST GLANCE BUT ONCE ON IT ITS FINE AND THE SEA IS WARM (ONCE YOUR IN) PEDELO HIRE IS ONLY 10 EUROS AN HOUR FOR 4 PEOPLE AND IS WELL WORTH A GO.IN THE EVENING WE FOUND THE HERA RESTAURANT WAS EXELLENT VALUE AND DRUNK CORNER WAS OUR FAVOURED DRINKING HOLE.FOR A FAMILY WITH 2 KIDS IT WAS AS LIVELY AS YOU WOULD WANT. WOULD DEFINATLY GO BACK

Kirsti T

COULD ANYBODY HELP JUST BOOKED A LAST MINUTE TO KALAMAKI BEACH GOING BED AND BREAKFAST DOES ANYBODY IF THERE ARE ANY COOKING FACTILIES?
IT SOUNDS A NICE PLACE IF ANYONE HAS STOPPED HERE COULD THEY TELL ME HOW LONG IT IS TO TOWN CENTRE OR NEAREST BAR. JUST ONE LAST THING HOW MUCH DINNER AND A FEW DRINKS COST ROUGHLY THANKS ALOT

Josie F

We are staying in Kalamaki last two weeks in July.Does anyone know if there are any scuba diving centre's on the island - to keep hubbie happy - any info much appreciated.

Dave P

Just got back from a weeks break in KALAMAKI on 26 May 2003, stayed at the Exotica hotel which was very clean and staff very friendly, had a great time, good for families and couples. Down Under good for cocktails and a night out but watch out for the barman with the ponytail as he has a tendancy to cover you with ice!! Hera was the best retaurant we ate at, good food and friendly staff, they even made a vegetable mousaka, which is not on their menu, for my wife.

Eyvind A

Just got back from a week's holiday staying at the Amaryllis Aparthotel (3*) in Kalamaki. I would recommend Kalamaki to anyone wanting a peaceful relaxing holiday - most of those there were couples and families. However, one of the great things about the place is that you can walk 20 minutes along the beach to Laganos and have all the nightlife you want.

Restaurants in Kalamaki all seem pretty good and inexpensive - Paolos and Hera were two of the best. Varied menus, friendly staff and quality food. There are some decent bars - if you like a more 'British' feel with pool tables, Sky Sports and full breakfasts you will find plenty like this.

Enjoy your visits!

Hayley B

I went and stayed at Dennys inn in 1998. I Was 18 and my boyfriend was 21. We had a brilliant holiday. We ate at Paulo's every night (restaurant near the main road) for 2 weeks and visited smugglers cove. The water really is that blue! I've swam in it! Didnt see a single turtle in two weeks but saw some dolphins while on our boat trip. We hired mopeds for a few days and toured the bottom half of the island. The traffic is minimal so it was great fun and the scenery is gorgeous. IFfyou are planning a holiday there then all i can say is I wish I was coming with you!!!!! If anyone would like any more info then just ask and I shall try to help.

Tom W

We are staying at hotel exotica june 23 for 2 weeks with 2 kids 6 & 3. Any tips on places to visit/eat ect gratefully welcomed.

John M

WE HAD A FANTASTIC TIME TRIED VARIOUS TAVERNAS ALL EXELLENT ,THE BEACH WAS CLEAN AND PERFECT FOR CHILDREN ,STAYED AT THE HOTEL MARALEN, WILL VISIT AGAIN WITHOUT HESITATION ,A VISIT TO THE CALLINICO VINYARD IS A MUST ,THERE IS A TOUR, THEN TO THE BAR FOR FREE WINE,CHEERS JOHN AND DI

Annette H

Been a few times to Kalamaki now and just booked to return in August to the Exotica Hotel with my husband's little girl, aged 11.

Looking to find out if anyone knows where Dennis (previous owner of the Marble Bar) went to in Argassi........?

Annette

Robert G

See comments about the Down Under bar on this site under-Kalamaki>>Bars&Clubs>>Down Under Bar.

Robert G

There are no kind of (night)clubs as such in Kalamaki, Laganas is a good place for clubs though. In Kalamaki there is a bar called "Down Under Bar" this can be brilliant for an evening out it is run by aussies and has live entertainment and can get "insane" some evenings!!! Laganas to Kalamaki is about 30 mins "approx" but walking along the beach from Kalamaki to Laganas (during the day) is a nice experience as you pass the Turtle hatching sanctuary on the way. Reliability is as per my previous posting.
Have fun & Regards!!

Kerry C

Is there any kind of clubs in "Kalamaki"?

How far away is "Kalamaki" from "Laganas" in a taxi and is it in walking distance?

How expensive is it to "Laganas" from Kalamaki in a taxi on average and are they reliable??

Thank-you

Robert G

Taxis are reliable and run to all hours! There are a couple of ranks in Laganas, or if you see a taxi flag him down and if he is empty he will stop. ALWAYS agree the price for your journey(s)with the driver before you get in the cab
Regards!

F G

How reliable are the taxi's from Laganas to Kalamaki if we are wanting to go into Laganas for nightlife but come back to a quieter resort for sleeping? Don't fancy getting stranded if taxis go home at midnight!!!!!!

Sarah L

kalamaki is kool

Robert G

Kalamaki could do with Cashpoints! Otherwise it's jump in a taxi to Laganas or Zante town (although the ones in Laganas aren't that reliable.

Neil S

Just got back this Sunday and had a brilliant time. Thanks mermaid girls!! Down Under was graet and so was Angels. Met a lot of great people while there and would definately recommend it to everyone.

Geoff G

I worked in Laganas in the Parots Bar where life was brilliant Lots to do Great clubs,Food,Women- I enjoyed the hole season and would go back there again in the future.

Robert G

Been to Kalamaki 6 years on the trot, but noticed this year more than ever that Kalamaki is not the quiet resort it used to be (thanks to the brain dead morons shouting and screaming at 4 in the morning after a couple of beers). This resort will soon become part of Laganas due to extensive building. Everything a lot dearer due to businesses rounding up the Euro. Such a shame!

Sandra P

We have just got back from 2 weeks at Antonis Apartments. The area is very nice, a good beach, and plenty of places to shop and eat. A great resort if you like a reasonably peaceful time on holiday, although you can make it as peaceful or lively as you like. Plenty of good bars and restaurants, several with live entertainment in the evenings. For a more lively evening, take a taxi to Laganas (5-6 euros.

Michael B

A good resort for a fairly relaxing holiday for families or couples. Some of the best restaurants and plenty of them. Only one night club, but Laganas is only a short taxi ride away (6 euro) The beach is nice, with safe shallow water. Watch out for nudists on the eastern side.

Jack B

Loads of good eateries and bars to visit, friendly locals, good swimming pools, excellent beach. Quieter than the clubbier Lagana a couple of miles away. Some good walks in the hills for a cloudy day. Not a lot going on, more a resort for sun-worshipping and the odd excursion. Good for families. Hey, I've been two years to Kalamaki and will return there, maybe next year.

Paul G

We booked this holiday on the back of the glowing reviews it has received and only wish we hadn't. I thought the resort was quite lacking in any charm. The hotel we stayed in 'Cronulla studios'(I think a studio should at least have a table and chairs) were in need of a lick of paint and was situated next to a main road which seemed to be used as a race track by silly kids racing motorbikes up and down. I wouldn't recommend this resort to anyone who has ever been to Greece before, they would only be disappointed.

Great resort, lovely beach, plenty of bars, restaurants and shops, pharmacy, everything you could possibly need. Laganas just a short taxi ride away.

First went to zante in 1990 and it was brilliant. Went to kalamakiin August last year with our two kids and stayed at the Hotel Exotica, brilliant hotel for kids, nice and clean. The restaurants in kalamaki are all good. Going back on the 16th August this year again and staying at the same place. Can't wait to go.

Peter K

nice place lively but not spoilt .All music stops outside the bars at twelve ,they still play it inside, due to a ruling by the mayor or something about keeping tourists awake ,but the locals can still ride their noisy bikes up and down the road trying to impress. The beach is getting spoilt by tourists that leave their rubbish on their which is a shame because it is a great beach.

Apart from very poor hotel , our holiday in kalamaki was lovely. The kids loved every minute. We did not use our hotel pool but used one further down the road which had friendly staff, lovely pool and atmosphere. I think it was called Les Meandros. Our 2 excursions were tiring but fabulous. Smugglers Cove and trip to Kefalonia. The caves here are a must see.

We stayed at the Cavo D'Oro Hotel. We are a family of 4 and went B&B. Apartment was absolutely tiny. No room to swing a "mouse". Bathroom was disgusting. No bath, waist high shower with no cublicle or curtain!. Breakfasts were beside the pool and consisted of stale ham and cheese rolls.(every day). Reception staff were the most miserable, people I've ever met.Apert from accomodation, Kalamaki was wonderful, tavernas were lovely would recommend The Paris and Michaelos. Nice bars, would recommend The Mustang Bar as good for families. Would return to Kalamaki but definately to a different hotel.

Gary M

Our holiday was spoilt by noise the locals made racing high performance motorbikes along the main (only !) road in the early hours of the morning. I'm afraid Kalamaki does not live up to the claims in the holidays brochures.

i have just come back from kalamaki and stayed in the crunulla apartments, it was fantastic, there is a karoke nearly every night for all of those people who love them!it was great i really loved it and its a place im going to keep returning to!a definate thumbs up!

Tracy B

We love Kalamaki,-however found that on this visit the resort is sadly getting busier and nosier. Why is Karoke inflicted on us at almost every bar? We want Greek atmosphere, not Blackpool. We will go back but will stay off the main Kalamaki road. The greek people make the stay so lovely. BE WARNED: DO NOT USE THE HORSE AND CARRIAGE RIDE. WE AGREED A PRICE-BUT AT END OF RIDE HE STILL TRIED TO TREBLE IT AND GOT NASTY WHEN WE WOULDNT PAY. A TAXI IS 10 TIMES CHEAPER.

How far approx. is Kalamaki from laganas? And is it easy to get from one to the other for a night out?

Have now been five times,we are victims to catching the kalamaki bug! top place to eat is Mermaids, fantastic service from great staff. For nearby accomodation try the Athina, which is right in the heart of it all.We will be back again and again no doubt!!

Dean M

Very quiet here as main tourist area is about five mins away by taxi/car.No cash points though had to go to Zante town or Laganas.Sophias supermarket has a safe rental service for your passports and valuables not a bad price of 6000drms[12 quid] for two weeks.Relatively quiet in the evening and peaceful after midnight if you exclude the dogs howling. Well worth the two weeks spent there.

John M

THIS MUST BE THE BEST PLACE ON THE ISLAND FOR PEOPLE WANTING TO CHILL OUT IN A GOOD FAMILY LOCATION,EVEN PEOPLE WHO GO TO THE LIVELY RESORT OF LAGANAS COME HERE FOR GREAT TAVERNAS AND FREINDLY BARS,PLENTY OF THINGS GOING ON HERE,FOR A RELAXING HOLIDAY,EASY ACCESS TO OTHER RESORTS, VIA CHEAP TAXIS.

Mark R

Excellent, quieter resort.Great bars, tavernas, especially Mikaelos restaurant.Very clean beach. We were concerned before we went about noise from airport but it was a lot quieter than we thought. Would go again.

Visited Kalamaki & Zante for the first time in July and fell in love with it! Very sunny, hot, relaxing, peaceful and hassle-free - exactly what we wanted for our Summer holiday. Stayed at Denny's Inn, Kalamaki which we would highly recommend to anyone. Loads of restaurants and tavernas to choose from in the evenings with happy, friendly staff always willing to help in any way they can. Beaches are lovely and sea at Kalamaki unbelievably warm and crystal clear. July is a little bit quiet for Turtles, best time apparently is May/June when they are laying most of their eggs. Loved it! Can't wait to go back!

Miranda J

I absolutely love Kalamaki. I've been there three times now and am going back again very soon. It is a lovely quiet resort laid out amongst farmland and overlooked by Mount Skopos. The people in Kalamaki, both locals and tourists, are very friendly and there has never been any trouble while I've been there. As a resort it caters more for families and couples and the more "discerning" tourist. It is not a "party capital" but has an excellent selection of tavernas and bars to keep you entertained of an evening. If you want nightclubs and something more lively then it's only about a 5min drive (by cab, very cheap) to Laganas. The beach is fantastic, all 5/6 miles of it. It's a great walk along the beach from Kalamaki to Laganas and back and of course not forgetting the turtles which I had the good fortune to swim with when I went in June. I usually stay in the Daisy Apartments which I would recommend, Peter and Andrea run them excellently. There are quite a few car/bike rental places and I would recommend hiring a car to go and see the rest of the island which is very beautiful. All in all, I think this is an excellent resort and would recommend it.
