Porto Roma suffers by comparison with all the other beaches in the area. The beach is very narrow. The sand is quite stoney. The area by the harbour looks like a junk yard.
Simply the best! A superb beach. Although, thankfully, there are no tavernas on this now protected beach, a few minutes walk takes you to a couple of nice places to eat and a v.friendly mini market.
Our favourite taverna in the Vassilikos area. Lovely courtyard setting among numerous trees and flowering shrubs. Live traditional music every night. Mostly Greek clientele. Food and service first class. Very friendly.
Panorama's outdoor bar is perched on the edge of a terrace on top of the hill overlooking Zante town, set among gum trees. A lovely setting with a superb view. Well worth a visit (as is the Venetian fort higher up the hill). We only had drinks so can't comment on the food.
What an incredible place! Quite a trek up the hill in the midday heat (but we can recommend drinks with a stunning view at the Panorama bar on the way back down), but you're then in a lovely pine forest with some interesting old ruins and great views all round.
Delfinia is on the road down to Porto Roma , just after the Panorama apartments. Lovely setting, among olive trees, with a fountain. Food, drink and service excellent (the brothers who run the place are "cute").
Located in a rural setting beyond Vassilikos just off the road to Gerakas beach (turn right at the Porto Roma crossroads - it's signposted). Great views. A huge outdoor play area for kids. Food and drink excellent. Service a bit slow, probably because there are three separate (outdoor) eating areas, with lots of greenery and flowers around. The waiters have to constantly run around, but they're friendly (isn't everyone in Vassilikos?).
