I am staying at the Captain's Hotel with wife and 2 kids 3,2 arriving 08.05.03.....can somebody tell me how steep the hill is, what are the local alternative beaches, and is there any additional play areas for toddlers?
Many thanx.....Mark
wot are the local alternative beaches and how far away?....have 2 todlers 2/3.5
went on this trip 10 years ago! ...honeymoon...sea gets rough around top coastline towards cephalonia and is guaranteed to getting you to spew pizza chunks! the ship isnt a ship, its an old tanker that was smuggling guns/drugs and was holed by the greek navy!! beech is shingle, and due to water being shallow, you have to swim from your boat to the shore......still at least you can say you were there!....take some chalk........
just returned, 8th - 22nd may............captains described as family orinated, but can be awkward for young kids. The hill isn,t too big, just long, and the last 100m is a killer especially if pushing a buggy. You can cut through commadore apartments to save time and distance but there are many steps. If you need an early night, suggest you dont stay in rooms 203,204,303,304 as these are directly above bar and terrace, and beleive me, people like to pretend to be bad furniture removers after midnight! If anybody wants any further info, please e-mail me on mra130367@aol.com, can give info on area, beach and eats/drinks........MARK
Beware the sound of evil, kareoke noises echo everywhere especially when sighted at the top of a hill!!
Views are breathtaking, food is plentiful but can become repetative and boring.
AMSTEL IS 2 EUROS NEARLY EVERYWHERE AND PRICES HAVE SOURED SINCE 2002....TAKE PLENTY OF SPENDING MONEY OR PLASTIC.
IT ALSO COSTS 30 EUROS EXTRA IF YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR ROOM 4 EXTRA DAY IF YOU ARE ON A NITE/EARLY MORNING FLIGHT HOME
Beach is narrow especially if sunbeds around, but otherwise its clean,SANDY,ideal for sandcastles etc and the sea is crystal clear and shallow...............ideal for kids.fish swim around but very hard to catch, though if you stand still they can tickle your feet!
Best part is if you follow the alleyway from the Tropicana to the main road, turn right towards the 'Red Lion pub', cross the road, leading out of town, pass the minerva hotel then turn left. It is very clean and quiet, you can watch the watersports in the distance, and have 2 good tavernas and an ice cream parlour next door!
just returned and it got damn hot! reached 100 degrees plus nearly everyday!.....no problem getting that all over tan. Weather reports as of 22nd said rain was on way, though dont beleive anything until you see it 4 yourselves!...1/2 term now so it is starting to get busy, but there is something 4 everyone......beer starts at 2 euros! and prices have rocketted since last year.....if can be of any help e-mail me on mra130367@aol.com
the ice creams were magnificent!....these lads stay open 24/7 for snax etc....middle of town so ideal for munchies!!
