Koukounaria Hotel - (Accommodation in Alykes)

Laura N

We have just come back from our first stay in the Koukounaria apartments. They are named this after the large fir tree in the grounds - the "Koukounaria Tree". The staff were extremely polite and helpful, the hotel in general was fantastic, the room was large and spacious with a very modern kitchen and very large refrigerator! There was only two of us staying, but we got a double apartment (suitable for 4 people) which had seperate ensuite bedrooms and two balconies overlooking the pool. As everyone else seems to have mentioned, the peacocks and cockerels were extremely frustrating at 5.00am, and as it was 96 degrees most days, we had to leave the balcony door open at night (resulting in lots of mosquito bites too...) It is just a short walk to the beach, but is far enough away from the other bars to have a relatively peaceful nights sleep. The pool was lovely, especially at sunset when it was cooler - nice after a hard days sunbathing!

Ormos Bromi - (Beaches in Zante)

My husband and I ALWAYS go here when we come to Zante. It is quite difficult to find, but very very beautiful when you do get there. It is signposted Porto Vromi from Volimes, but there is no sign for the actual turn off, you'll just have to guess! It is a natural harbour and very very deep once you get in. Loads of different fish to look at once you have figured out how to get in (we used the fishermans ladder on the right handside that goes right into the water). Watch out if you don't like it cold - it's on the north of the island, so it can be FREEZING, although that's not always bad when it's 100 degrees in the shade! It's quite stony to get in at the shallow end, so best to use the ladder we did. Not good for kids as it's so deep and cold. BUT YOU HAVE TO GO!
