Stayed in Kalamaki but went to Agios Sostis for a meal one night. The food was some of the best in the two weeks we were there. The fresh vegetable soup was a meal on it's own. I had lamb kleftico, not the most authentic I have had but delicious all the same, there must have been at least 1/2lb of lamb. My husband's mixed grill was also excellent. Both were served with chips which is not brilliant but actually they were very hot and very nice. Good friendly service and prices and large free shots of ouzo.
The food here was superb. I would say only try the kleftico in filo pastry if you like feta as there's about 1/2lb in it! The chicken crepe starter was delicious. The souvlaki special was great as was the baked sea bass. They try to offer something different here as well. Didn't see the australian woman just Greek waiters who were very friendly and polite. The service was very slow, bad if you've got kids but for us what's the rush? You're in Greece! I asked for the bill in Greek and the waiter was asking me if I was learning Greek but I just try to say a few words. Anyway he wrote me a lot of Greek verbs down on the back of the menu. He was lovely. We thought the free shot after the meal tasted like Fisherman's Friends and when we asked he said it was cinnamon liquer.
Visited the rooftop restaurant twice. Lovely views of the planes coming and going. Food was excellent, especially the Zakynthian chicken and pork Krestatas. Meatball starters were delicious. Prices about average.
Went here on the first night and didn't go back. It was very ordinary and the lamb kleftico was burnt and sitting in 1/2in of fat. Yuk! The loud karaoke coming from the Rose and Crown next door doesn't help. There's plenty of better places.
Arrived back from Daisy's on 1st June and would certainly consider going back there. Dennis brought us a free shot over on our first night and made us welcome. Peter and Andrea were equally welcoming, the family really made our holiday memorable. Don't miss the Greek night on Mondays - great fun and good food. The quizzes were enjoyable as well, run by Debbie, sister of Peter and Dennis. The complex was very clean with bins emptied six days a week and towels and linen changed midweek. Equipment is basic but there is a small kettle. The towels left a lot to be desired as we only ever got one hand and one small bath towel between the two of us. Also you had to have your shower before 7 if you wanted any hot water. There was quite a bit of noise during the night from the local cockerels, stray dogs and once a goat but you soon get used to it. It's all part of the fun. We were not near the road or bar so no noise from them. The location was excellent, just a short stroll to the local amenities. The beach is a bit further but it's a pleasant walk and a lovely beach.
Arrived back from Daisy's in Kalamaki on 1st June. In reply to some of the earlier questions on this page. There is a scuba diving centre at Aghios Nikolaos on Vassilikos peninsula and I believe there is a daily tourist bus there from Kalamaki and other resorts if you don't want to get a car. We got a brand new Hyundai Getz with air con from Merlis. 7 days was E180. Sunbeds were E8 for 2+brolly. We usually had a starter and main course and two drinks each for E22 to E28 but didn't choose the dearest things on the menu. Some of the Greek stews done in the oven are delicious. Cocktails were generally E2.50 and a large Amstel E2 -E2.50. Wine was about E3 a half bottle or half carafe. It was E2.50 a bottle in supermarket. Water E1.40 for 6 at Sofia's. Two teas and cakes at the bakery were about 7 Euros. Sun cream is dear E7 -E12, get it from Tesco, only £2.66 if you can carry it! Hope this helps.
We booked Daisy's from the Unijet brochure which is part of First Choice. Hope this helps.
