Although the room was basic it was clean and comfortable. The location was brilliant. The uncrowded beach is a 1 minute stroll away and the sea was quite shallow with loads of small fish swimming around. The pool is excellent and has a brilliant sunbathing area all round it(with plenty of sunbeds. The owners Pavlos and Karen are very friendly people and one of them was always around the bar if you needed anything. Many people were returning guests from previous years and we shall certainly be going back if we need a quiet relaxing break.
We ate here twice during our recent holiday. The service was very friendly and very quick. Couldn't fault the food it was tasty, hot and very plentiful. The menu included some Greek dishes that I had not heard of before but had a good description of what they were which was very useful.I can thoroughly recommend the beef stifatho which I had on both visits as it was SO good. You get a free glass of ouzo to drink whilst you are choosing from the menu. The atmosphere was great and you have a choice of sitting inside, on the verandah area or under the grapevine (if the grapes are ripe you can have them as a desert).
Our favourite restaurant during our recent visit. The staff are friendly and helpful and the service quick. The quality of the food was superb. We had the Greek Mezes which was the best starter I have ever had, as were the dolmades. I had the "pork exochico" which had a tasty stuffing of peppers, onions and feta, the meat was very tender and plentiful. We also tried the "lamb kleftico" and the "red snapper" which was excellent. The whole experience of eating at this restaurant was a 100% pleasure and I thoroughly recommend it for its quality.
We decided to eat here as it was our "Wedding Anniversary" and we wanted somewhere a bit special. We were not disappointed. We arrived by horse and carriage(the cart had just left so they called for a carriage for us)and from there it only got better. The service and food were excellent. The fish platter had a good variety of fish and was very tasty. Unfortunately it started to rain after we had finished our meal so we were liberally plied with free brandies until it stopped raining and the horse and cart could go again. Not many restaurants would have done this. They made our evening very special and for this we would recommend you visit.
We went on the Trainaki on the evening visit (it left Alykanas at 5pm) expecting to be gone around 2.5 hours. How wrong we were. Everybody was having such a good time at "Kakia Rahi" Taverna drinking wine and eating raisins that we didn't return until 8.45pm.
But what a brilliant time we had. The train ride through the countryside villages was lovely and the museum fascinating. Spiros has collected all the memorabilia from around the island and thank goodness he has as it is so lovely to see how Zakynthians used to live and work. Spiros is a very happy chappy and very passionate about his Museum and Taverna. The trip was made even better by our guide called "Dee". She has a great personality and we thoroughly enjoyed her company. One of the most original excursions we have ever been on and one we would recommend to all ages.
