We visited Kalamaki at the end of May for the fourth time. It has expanded since we first visited but is still fairly quiet. Saw lots of turtles in the sea.
Best restaurant is Mermaids. Con and his crew are very friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. You can eat Greek or choose from a very large menu and the specials are brilliant. Try the steak and also the ribs. Stannis near the beach is also very good.
Our favourite bar was Scorpios where the three brothers made us very welcome. Watch out for the Sambuca shots
Timeout has everything the larger restaurants have. It is clean and tidy and the staff are friendly. Giros pitta €2 or €4 for a huge one. Chicken and pork are both excellent. Try crepes with apples, nuts and honey for dessert. Delicious!!
I have been to Zante many times as it is so beautiful and the people are brilliant. If you have never been to greece before you need to go with the flow and chill out. Accomodation is basic but you only use it to sleep and shower. Eat out as the food is cheap. The airport however is the worst I have been to. Take drinks and food as you will have a long wait outside. Once you have checked in your luggage do not go through to departures as it is very hot, dirty with no seats and the food and drinks cost a fortune and are of poor quality. Check if your plane has landed (you can see the arrival screens) and if not go back outside under the canopies out of the sun and play cards and eat and drink. Only go through passport control once your plane has landed as you will still have about an hour to wait. If there is a que at passport control explain to one of the reps (there will be loads) that your plane is in and she will push you to the front of the que. Once in departures you can buy six packs of soft drinks in duty free cheaply. Also croissants and biscuits if you are hungry. Perfume is not much cheaper than at home but brandy is a good buy.
