Parthenon Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Miranda J

In our opinion the Parthenon Greek Taverna is the best restaurant in Kalamaki! The food is absolutely fantastic - real authentic Greek food. The staff are wonderful - it's a family run restaurant and they can't do enough for you to make sure you have a fantastic time - they are especially good with the children. If you go there say hi to the Yannis', Georgie, Alexis, Babiss, Spiros, Tassos - they are all great guys!! They also run the English pub next door which is just as fabulous! It couldn't be easier, simply eat your meal and then take your drinks to the bar next door and continue drinking some fabulous cocktails made up by the boys behind the bar (Spiros and Tassos we luv ya!) We were in Kalamaki last October and have just come back from there this June and we are going back again this October we love it so much there, and we eat at the Parthenon on a regular basis. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who is visiting the island. We love you guys!! See you again in October!! Miranda & Sheila x PS Yannis, can't wait to see you again!

Daisy Apartments - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Miranda J

I have stayed at the Daisy Apartments twice in the past and will be staying there again in October. They are in a beautiful location, lovely gardens and fantastic view of Kalamaki's mountain. The apartments themselves are basic (as with most Greek accommodation) but it is clean and well kept and it is so cheap to eat out that you'll find that you won't want to be cooking for yourself. Peter and Andrea who run the place are fantastic and can't do enough for you and Dennis behind the bar will take care of all your alcholic needs! There are great facilities for the children and it's only a stones throw away from all the amenities - shops, supermarkets, tavernas, the beach. There is some traffic noise at night as there is a main road nearby and there is entertainment in the bar until the early hours of the morning but when you go on holiday, what do you expect? It is bearable and you will have a fab time!

Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Miranda J  (10 August 2001)

I have to say that the only reason Mermaids is popular is because as usual with the English, they have no culture and when they go on holiday like to eat "English-style" food and have a TV to watch!!!! If you came to Zakynthos to eat "English-type" food or Greek food (cooked to please the English) then fine, but if you came to Greece to see the real Greece you should eat "real" Greek food!! There are lots of much more "authentic" Greek "restaurants" than Mermaids - Mikaelos, Parthenon for example. If you like Macdonalds then Mermaids is for you - but if you want to try the food of the country that you are visiting then go somewhere else - it won't kill you, you know - there is more to life than burgers and chips!! All I can say is these people who all think Mermaids is the best restaurant in Kalamaki and indeed the island are obviously quite mad and know nothing about food, restaurants or have any culture!

Rose n Crown - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Miranda J

Fab "English-style" bar/pub, next door to The Parthenon restaurant and run by the same Greek family. Tassos and Spiros behind the bar will mix you up some very dangerous cocktails and take care of your every alcholic need. There is nightly showings of the latest movies, music, pool table and occasional live entertainment. Very friendly bar, the guys at The Parthenon will keep you entertained!

Kalamaki Resort - (Resorts in Zante)

Miranda J

I absolutely love Kalamaki. I've been there three times now and am going back again very soon. It is a lovely quiet resort laid out amongst farmland and overlooked by Mount Skopos. The people in Kalamaki, both locals and tourists, are very friendly and there has never been any trouble while I've been there. As a resort it caters more for families and couples and the more "discerning" tourist. It is not a "party capital" but has an excellent selection of tavernas and bars to keep you entertained of an evening. If you want nightclubs and something more lively then it's only about a 5min drive (by cab, very cheap) to Laganas. The beach is fantastic, all 5/6 miles of it. It's a great walk along the beach from Kalamaki to Laganas and back and of course not forgetting the turtles which I had the good fortune to swim with when I went in June. I usually stay in the Daisy Apartments which I would recommend, Peter and Andrea run them excellently. There are quite a few car/bike rental places and I would recommend hiring a car to go and see the rest of the island which is very beautiful. All in all, I think this is an excellent resort and would recommend it.
