Water Village - (Places to Visit in Zante)

We thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon here, 1st week in June. We arrived at 2.30, it cost 10 euros for adults and 6 for children, our 4 yr old got in free. Slides for adults/ teenagers were quite high and no queues. Nice childrens area with small slides, water fountains, and slightly bigger slides for older ones, all enjoyed by our 4 and 7 yr olds. They loved the lazy river too, and we all had fun in the big pool with jacuzzi. Officially they close at 5 but we weren't rushed or asked to leave at all, finally made our way out at about 5.30. Most of those on organised trips left at 4. Very clean, no problems at all. We enjoyed it so much we came back again for another afternoon two days later!

Located in Sarakinado, about 10-15 mins drive East of Zante town. We had a car so can't comment on taxi fares. Food/bar prices didn't seem that overinflated, only had ice creams though.

Glass Bottomed Boat Trip - (Zante Excursions)

Took a 1 hour trip from Laganas beach on small catamaran. 10 euros each and bartered them down to kids half price. We saw lots of turtles, including one huge one which the driver reckoned was 100 yrs old. It really was amazing to see them so close. Thouroughly enjoyed it.

Michaelos - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

We enjoyed the food and service here. A genuine welcome and good service, nice setting and very busy. We visited twice and on one evening it rained and we watched the waiters moving the loaded tables inside with impressive speed!

Sea bream and specials all good.

Olive Tree Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

We enjoyed a good meal here, a genuine Greek atmosphere. Nice meze and souvlaki, pasta carbonara good too.

Parthenon Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Wasn't particularly impressed. My boys liked the greeter, but I felt his charm was very put on and false. Full of raucous parteies of chain-smokers when we visited. Cheapest meal of the holiday, food OK, nothing special.

Tesoro - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

We had a good meal here on our first night in Kalamaki. Very friendly but not obtrusively so. Yummy souvlaki and huge puddings. Recommended.

Zakanthi - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

A lovely place in a garden setting, very different from the other restaurants. Some swings at the back for the children to play on (out of sight of tables). Tables well spaced so quite romantic.

Food very good, we had pork in mustard sauce and roast lamb, nice potato wedges and vegetables. Children had homemade burgers which were lovely. Good service from friendly waiters. We went quite early and later on the waiters seemed quite stretched as the restaurant became full, saw one couple walk out as noone took their order.

Caretta Beach Holiday Village - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

A lovely hotel, we were greeted by the English Manageress on arrival and shown to our room. Hotel kept very clean, nice pools and reception with mini-market and good snackbar.

We had booked a studio for 4, 2 adults and 2 children; this was quite small as it was one room with 4 beds in it, which only left 1 metre 'corridor' of space not covered by beds. Only 3 plates, cups etc. Good fridge, kettle, toaster. Room was cleaned every day. Air-con was 25 euro for a week. Comfortable full-size beds, and nice balcony. Balcony doors double-glazed but also had mosquito-mesh doors so you could sleep with doors open but not let insects in, which was a good feature. Only woken once by planes at 6am.

My husband did pick up an ear/nose/throat /eye infection from the pool, so be aware that although pool looks clean, it may still harbour bugs.

2 bed apartments available, so would advise families to seek these out, although studios would be fine for 2.
