Kalamaki Resort - (Resorts in Zante)

Andrew S

Absolutely loved the place and its charm - the small allotment ares less than 25 metres from the main street and sheep grazing at the side of the road were brilliant.

Michaelo's restaurant must be one of the best we have visited anywhere and it does great credit to Dennis (the owner) who is briilliant, and if he reads this, our condolences again on your loss.

The only drawback was the airport on return - the planes overhead daily weren't as bad as expected but the airport is appalling with sandwiches (virtually the only food) 3 times as expensive as in town and even dearer when you have gone through immigration (and 28 euros for 2 x G&T & 2 lagers is extortion)

The beaches as well are fantastic and the walk to them may be longer than they say but is a nice walk.

Also like the local ordnance regarding music cannot be played outside after midnight - the places stay open and anyone wanting a quiet drink outside can do so.

Finally, we had an earth tremor (evidently a regular occurence) one evining while we there - I have never been present at a place before where the earth moved for so many women at one time !!

Thanks again for a great holiday

Two Brothers Studios - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Andrew S

Excellent accomodation in a brilliant location - cleanliness was very good, cleaned and tidied every day with clean sheets/towels evry third day.

Rooms were small and basic but as a base they were fine.

Only problem was every couple of days they had to empty the cess pool/tank and this did cause a smell in one particular area.

If you go there, try for one of the rooms 67 -71 as they are on the top deck, overlooking the pool, towards the mountains

Mermaids - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Andrew S  (27 September 2005)

Excellent food (and plenty of it !!!) at a good price.  The guy meeting and greeting was brilliant but as for other staff................. One day we had been to Kefalonia and couldn't be bothered getting changed and coming back out so I called for a takeaway pizza while my wife returned to our apartment.

While I was witing at the bar, a rather largely built lady left the restaurant for a few minutes and then returned.  One of the waitresses, a young Greek girl from the look of her, turned to a colleague and in my earshot (and others ?) said "its not hard to see who ate all the pies is it ?" to the amusement of her colleague.

Not very professional and not what the place deserved , unfortunately, I did not at the time think to remind the young lady that it was people like that young lady who pay her wages.

Michaelos - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Andrew S

Couldn't agree more with other people except to say I would add that I think it is one of my favourite restaurants anywhere, and I am not certain if the food or Dennis' contribution that has the most effect.

The meze starter, as a previous contributor says is brilliant, and the artichokes in cheese also, but to single these out would be unfair on all the other dishes that my wife and I sampled during our 4 visits to the restaurant.

The only sadness was that on our last visit, Dennis informed us that his father had died that morning and offering our condolences then, I would like to add them again now, as I am sure all that have met the man would do so

A wonderful restaurant in a fabulous location on the fringe of town - it is worth a visit to this resort just to go to this restaurant, believe me and my waistline !!
