We went to the Greedy Greek once and we enjoyed it. The food is the same as you would get in any restaurant, the service was prompt and Dennis the owner very polite. We had no problems, but you should be aware that the Greek was is more relaxed than others, so you will probably have to ask for the bill or it won't come! There were a few stray cats who wandered in, but they were no problem and quite cute. Often people will come and leave lighters on your table for you to buy for 1,000 Drachmas. They are deaf, and this is their way of making money. If you don't want them, just ignore them and they'll take them away and not bother you. As far as I can make out they are genuine. Don't forget to pop to the tour operators next door who sometimes have a free carafe of wine offer for the Greedy Greek when you take a leaflet.
We used Dionysus tours in Alikanas to do a half day trip to the shipwreck and blue caves.
Sorry, adding to last comment. It costs us about £8 for the half day cruise. The ship was too packed, so don't expect to sit down and there is little shade on top of the boat. When the sea is choppy expect seasickness. The blue caves are pretty but they aren't as stunning as you will expect, the shipwreck is just a 1930's Scottish built trawler which is on a very pebbley beach. We only got to stop for half and hour there and in a bay for half an hour to swim. It was boring and take your own food as boat food is over priced. I wouldn't bother. Best to hire a car and do it yourself.
Friendly staff, prompt service and good food at a reasonable price. Very recommended for those who are a bit homesick.
Went there once and the Pina Colada tasted non-alcoholic and the Margarita was just salt water. We couldn't finish our drinks and soon left. The people are friendly but the drinks are foul - sorry!
We stayed at the Elpida in September 2001. The rooms are very basic but enough, with a single hob, fridge and basic cutlery and dishes. The bathroom has atoilet, sink and shower- prepare to get water everywhere though! Balconys are very nice and the Elpida is far enough away fromt he bars to be quiet. Beautiful views of the vineyards behind. Pool is small but good for kids. Best thing to do is go to the Millenium pool 5 mins away into town, bigger and better pool and less crowded. There is a sulphur like smell lingering but its not too bad. Our sheets weren't changed all week though! I'd go again but avoid the cafe/restaurant - you'll wait forever and ever!!
Lovely restaurant, we were offered sea bass caught that day and it was so good! Good service and nice people. Highly recommended. Expect to pay around 1500 to 3000 drachmas for a main dish. Lovely.
