Lamb Kleftico was wonderful, well presented with lots of extremely tender lamb. We ate at the restaurant three times during our holiday and were very satisfied on each occasion. I would agree with the comment about the man on the door he was very funny and spoke to us everytime we passed.
We found the food at the Matelana good and ate there on a number of occasions. We had: roast lamb, yros, spit chicken, chicken fillet and the mese starter (can't remember the rest)and it was all extremely tasty.
A very pleasant and extremely well run bar. They have a fantastic pool that is spotlessly clean and very quiet even when all the sunbeds are in use. The staff are very friendly but won't tolerate any misbehaviour from children or adults. The music was very pleasant, not too loud, and the children loved the using the pool table which only cost 3 Euros for half an hour.
Hi to everybody at the Mill bar. Thanks for making us feel so welcome. We loved your food (breakfast and lunch time snacks) and your Greek night is brilliant a must for everybody visiting Alykanas & Alykes!!! It is an absolute bargain at only 11 Euros for adults and 5 for children. The dancers were fantastic, as was the BQ. You were by far the friendliest bar that we visited in Alykanas, keep up the good work and thanks again for your hospitality.
Zakfari was the highlight of our holiday. It was the guide's first day on the job but she was brilliant and very knowledgeable about the island and the places that we visited (remember the taxi ride, private joke!). Spiros our driver was amazing, he was very friendly and had a lovely sense of humour. The best bit was the off road ride up to the view point, Spiros's driving made the day and he was given a suitable round of applause at the top of the mountain. The tour was action packed visiting the best view points on the island and many other interesting sites and the jeep was wicked (my son's words!) We even had time for a swim in the afternoon and stopped for lunch at a lovely taverna. The mousakka, chicken and slouvaki were all beautiful. Thanks to everyone for an absolutely fabulous day and especially to Spiros and the guide (unfortunately I can't remember her name!!)
The Elpida apartments were very noisy, mainly traffic noise with cars and motorbikes roaring along the main road all night. The arpartment was gloomy and wasn't particularly clean in fact in my opinion it was dirty. The floors were never cleaned during the duration of our stay. The sheets and towels were heavily stained and in some cases holed but they had obviously been washed,I was extremly pleased that I had taken my own towels as I would not have wanted to use those provided. The water for 9 out of the forteen days was cold or merely warm. It is not solar heated therefore there was no excuse for this, allegdly it was often switched off to save the hotelier money. This would appear to be the case as following each complaint to Kosmar the water would become hot within two or three minutes, the block of accomodation over the bar and supermarket seemed to suffer the most from this problem. I found the barman extremely offensive therefore never used the bar facilities, luckily he vanished during the second week of our holiday but we had by then found better facilities to use. The pool is small and looking past it's best, absolutely nothing like the picture in the Kosmar brochure. We used the Millenium Bar pool just a few yards along the road as this was much nicer and less cramped.
We visited the Blue Caves with Golden Dolphin at Alykes. The speed boat was brilliant and the driver friendly. If your staying in Alykanas you can book this trip at the crazy golf, don't walk all the way into Alykes to the beach booth, as we did. The boat will pick you up in Alykanas at the harbour. The trip took two hours and leaves 11am or 2pm. Great fun!
