If there is one thing you have to do,its the Insight Jeep Safari.  We were there in Aug 06. We laughed all day.  Drivers were abs MAD. 3 Great guys. The offroad parts really had you hanging on edge of seats, our 2 Grankids,2 boys aged 15 and 8,were whooping.  They esp loved the water fights.  You have to do it.  Thanks to Julian, our driver, for let STUMPY ride up front.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for your comment. I have spoken last year to a Zante Insight driver about the driving, but obviously it wasn't you as i've never met you! Any comments i would have to make about the company, i would make to Bob and Clive in the UK.

Good luck this summer

GAME BOY DAY

Well, it's taken me nearly a year to leave this feedback.......

....my boyfriend and I did the trip towards the end of our holiday, and we're so glad we did it.  For me, it was the best excursion we went on.  The guides were all fantastic and made the day a real success.  The only criticism I have it that I don't think it's a trip designed for children under about 11/12.  There were two families on our trip and the children (I think there may have been four kids in total) were bored.  However, my boyfriend and I really enjoyed it - we got to see parts of the island that we probably would never have visited otherwise and the guides has so much knowledge and explained a lot of the history of the island, which made the trip really interesting.

I would recommend this excursion to anybody - except families with younger kids - as it really made our holiday.  I've seen from some other comments that apparently this excursion won't be available, which is a real shame.  If we head back to Tsilivi, that's the one trip we'd definitely have done again.

Thanks for a fantastic day

Peter R  (21 January 2006)

There are a number of companies running tours on the island, but the best one is Zakfari. I can say that because I drive for Zakfari!

Siobhan P (18 January 2006)

Im slightly confused - is there more than one jeep safari on Zante? Are the Jeep Safari and Zakfari two seperate things or the same? If seperate, which one would you recommend and why?

Sandy W  (08 January 2006)

click to enlarge We stayed in laganas in sept 05 myself and my daughter who is 16. At first I thought that the safari tour was expensive, however I would recommend to anyone but not for the faint hearted. Our tour driver was a scream (a little bit mad). Would definatly do the trip again.

WE WENT IN MAY THE WEATHER WAS GOOD, BUT YOU NEED TO TAKE BOTH WARM CLOTHES AS IT IS BREEZY IN THE BACK AND COOL CLOTHES FOR ALL THE STOPS YOU MAKE. I DID NOT LIKE THE FOOD, THERE WAS MINIMAL CHOICE AND I LEFT STILL HUNGRY! THE BOTH BIT BY FAR WAS THE SECLUDED COVE WE WENT TO FOR THE SWIM STOP, WE SNOKELLED AND GOT SOME SOME PICCYS OF THE FISH, ALTHOUGH THE SMELL OF THE SULPHUR WAS GROSS, AND IT TASTED EVEN WORSE! IF ANYONE CAN TELL ME THE NAME OF THE BEACH AND WHERE IT WAS I WOULD BE GREATFULL AS WE CAN FIND OUR OWN WAY THERE NEXT YEAR.

ENJOY!!

"Killed the snake day"!  - although I thought the trip was a bit pricey, we had a fantastic day. The company was entertaining, the lunch was good, the views breathtaking, what more could you ask for!

Martin G  (28 October 2005)

We went on the "last tour of the season" last Sunday - what a waste of a not inconsiderable amount of money.  There was a tangible end-of-season complacency amongst the staff and very little effort was made,  except by Simon, otherwise it was all "going through the motions".  Our driver was clearly disenchanted with the whole thing and even made some interestingly sarcastic comments about the whole set-up.  Most of the day was spent speeding from place to place, unable to se much from the jeep, with no effort made to give any eductaion or information about where we were/what we were doing/seeing, except on the "official" stops.

It was something of an unpleasant surprise to discover that lunch was at an "extra" cost - having done several days like this before in various european locations they have always included lunch, but on this occasion lunch added another £22 to the days cost which, at £160 was alraedy a considerable investment.

No doubt Zakfari will survive and prosper, and the owners will become wealthy, and don't need any "suggestions, but here goes:

1) Give the driver a microphone, with a speaker in the back of the jeep - at 50 mph and the wind whistling through the jeep most comments were inaudible

2) Get some "interaction" going - sitting with a load pf people you have nerver met, and can't chat to, due to the noise, results in people just staring at each other.

3) At "lunch" get the drivers to sit WITH the paying customers - they have loads of local knowledge, let them be available to answer questions, rather than sitting exclusively alone.

A great waste of a lot of money................and it could all be so much more fulfilling

The safari was the best.  It was the only cold day of our week and windy but Paul and Simon made it a day to remember.  This was the very last trip of the season and there was 4 jeeps out.  Our driver Peter was excellent company and knowledgeable.  Highly recommended.  Lunch was lovely.  I did see one horse and we decided it was a donkey not an elephant!!  Did have a tremor that day we as we were in a churchyard but we never felt it.   Comfort was not a thing you should consider on this trip.  Our kids loved it (5 - 18yrs).

Phil F  (25 October 2005)

Hello all you Zakfari nutters. We were on the "day of the snake" trip. And what a trip. we were in the jeep driven by the aussie learner driver.Laugh Larry you are a true Aussie nut. I was talking in a high pitched voice for about three day after. Went to some absolutly stunning places and the banter and driver comentry was excellent. Dont think I have ever been on a trip that i enjoyed so much. Didnt see the animals in the cave maybe i should have drunk more of the well water or sniffed more of the thyme. Anyone who goes to zante must do "zakfari" not one of the impersonators, nothing like it wind in the hair grit in the eyes and segs on the bum brilliant. A trip not to be missed. Seriously to larry, simon and the team thanks for the best day of our holiday your presentations and explanations were second to none. To anyone reading this if you are lucky enough to meet Larry ask him... Does he always drive in second gear? or Can you not go any faster? It really brings the best out in him!!!Laugh
Thanks for the experience

Thursday 20th October  Polish Day Wow we had a fanatastic time the  best day of our whole holiday and we would recommend it to all to give it a go.

Did'nt see a horse in the caves but we saw plenty of other animals which i'm sure were just an elusion after sniffing all the herbs.
Would do it again if i was to return to Tsilivi which i'm not Earthquake a bit to much for me.

Ooopps hit the wrong key before I had finished & thought I had lost the post anyhow will try again….

Wednesday 19th October 2005 'Musical Cat Day' (if I remember correctly! ) or 'The Day After The Earthquake' as I like to call it

Can highly recommend this trip, we had Paul as our driver and Simon (in pic) as our tour guide, even though it was late in the season & we didn't spot any turtles & the sea was too cold for a swim stop we still had a great time & saw some fantastic views, you get to see parts of the island the coach trips just can't take you.

I must admit I couldn't see any of the animals on the rocks up by the caves even after sniffing the 'special herbs' maybe if I had tried after all the free wine tasting I might have had more luck spotting them!   We were lucky enough to visit smugglers cove by boat on a previous visit to the island, so it was good to see it from a different angle this time.

All in all a really great day.

Ps. Still picking pips from my teeth after the wild strawberries nearly a week on.

Wednesday 19th October ' Musical Cat Day' (if I remember correctly!)

Can highly recomend this trip, we had Paul as our driver & Simon as our guide.  Unfortunatly it was too late in the season to see any Turtles or to stop for a swim but we still had a fantastic time
