We are going to the Callinica apartments in September, we have never been to Zante before and are really looking forward to it. Can anyone give me any ideas on the best place to eat, drink and generally be merry. Also does anyone know what the weather is like in Zante in September,is it usually hot.
Just some general advice on Zante, it will be our first time when we go in September, we usually go to Corfu but thought we would try another island and we have heard that Zante is really lovely.Where are the best places to visit etc and where do you go to swim with the turtles.
Does anyone know what the weather will be like in September, we will be arriving on the 18th, will it still be really hot.
What a dump.Arrived back from tsillivi on Sunday, we were supposed to stay at Calliniga 2 but somehow it got changed to Caliniga 3.Stayed 1 night and booked ourselves into another hotel as we couldn't stay there any longer, all the rep was interested in was sitting at the bar drinking and smoking, the place was directly in the flight path to the airport and the planes were extremely low and they start coming in at 4.58 am, it's like sleeping on the runway. There is no air conditioning, the fridge was manky with no shelves, their is no kettle and nothing to boil water in, no shower curtain but there is rings where it should have been.It is on an extremely steep slope and then we had 3 flights of stairs to climb, were told we would be moved to a ground floor aprtment but that never happened.if you are booked in here change your booking before it is too late DON'T GO, IT IS AWFUL.
booked in here for 6 nights after find the place we were originally booked was a complete tip(calliniga), The medirerranee was lovely and luxury after what we had just come from. They only charged us 30 euros a night and that was with air conditioning, the views from the balcony over the sea were breathtaking and the restaurant was great, they kept giving us free complimentary food becasue we were staying in their hotel eg desserts and coffee plus 20% off of the meals. We loved it here.
It may have been okay for you but obviously you were not in the same apartment that we were given, I was not complaining about the lack of cooking facilities just the lack of a simple kettle, also if you don't mind having to move everything out of the bathroom before you shower then that's okay.To start with we originally booked into the Calliniga 2 which was down the slope but we were mysteriously changed to Calliniga 3 (also found out we had paid a lot more for our holiday than the others that were staying there) on arrival after being told that only Danish people go into Calliniga 2 although all the signs outside Calliniga 2 advertising entertainment etc were in English!!!!,so obviously someone overbooked as when we got to the airport to go out to Zante our flight numbers had changed aswell, we should have been flying with Scandic airways and ended up with excel airways (no complaints about that at all). I did not book with Libra holidays and never would after having a bad experience with them before. I know the planes do not fly in and out during the night but I don't call 4.58 am exactly daytime. We tried to talk to the rep but she was just not interested so gave up and booked somewhere else. After speaking to several other reps, restaurant owners etc they also told us that Calliniga 3 and 4 get a lot of complaints, so it seems that we are not alone. Obviously it is what you are used too but we are not which is why we moved.
One other thing, we did enjoy it very much once we changed to The Mediteranee hotel, and had no intention of sitting indoors complaining all day that is why we got out !!!!!!
I am a bit concerned about some of the comments I have read on the site about the amarylis appts. me and my husband, my daughter and grandson are going in 6 weeks, my daughter is on a limited budget and will not be able to afford to eat at the snack bar all the time and I don't want her holiday ruined by being refused use of the sunbeds and pool as this is her and my grandsons first time abroad. My hubby and myself will be using the snackbar and bar a lot of the time we don't want to feel obligated to using it all of the time as we like to try different places to eat. Is it really as bad as people say.
Thankyou Vicki for putting my mind at rest, we would never take our own food and drink round the pool, we have seen people do it in various parts of greece and we know it is not allowed, we tend to spend a lot of time around the pool when we are away so my husband and I will be eating and drinking at the snack bar, I was just worried about my daughter not being able to eat there as much. I am now looking forward to going on the 17th June. Thanks again.
Have a lovely holiday Vicky
Hello Vicky, did you have a nice holiday, what is the weather like there at the moment, from the weather forecasts here for Zante it does not look too good.
We are going to Zante on 17th June for 2 weeks, We have been once before and the departure lounge (should I say lounge!!!) was pretty bad then. I think the way you have to look at it is it's worth putting up with a couple of hours discomfort for a 2 week stay in such a beautiful place. It wouldn't stop me from going again after all as soon as you get on the plane the departure experience is soon forgotten.
Can anyone help, after losing over 2 stones since january for my holiday I don't want to come back from holiday 2 stone heavier, what foods are quite low in fat and calories in the restaurants. I know going on holiday is about enjoying yourself but if I can eat sensibly while I am there I may get away with not having to buy a whole new wardrobe in the second week of the holiday.Any help would be appreciated
They are not up a hill near the crazy golf, they are right in the middle of town next door to macdonalds. We returned from them on Sunday and had a brilliant time, Anna, Nikos,Joseph and Lewis made our holiday wonderful, they own the pool and bar/snackbar area. The actual apartments are owned by another man and his mother, these are not very nice people. Before we got there the little cat that lives behind the bar area had a litter of kittens, they were about 6 weeks old when we arrived, one of them was very ill and was bought to the attention of the apartment owners, they instructed the maid to take the kitten away which was understandable as it was so ill but the others were perfectly well, for 3 days after that we would go down to feed the cat and kittens and another kitten would have dissappeared until the day before we came home all the kittens had been killed and probably not humanely. Also if anyone is going to tip the maids (they do a brilliant job) do it without the old lady (who owns the aparts) seeing as she takes it off them, she also goes into the rooms when you check out to see if there is any tips left for the maids and then pockets them. The manager also goes into the rooms when you are out of an evening, he was caught by one of the guests whose daughter was asleep in bed at the time, his excuse was he was checking to make sure the air con hadn't been left on which is impossible because the aircon tag is attached to your key and cannot be removed so why he was in the rooms no-one knows, just be careful not to leave anything valuable about. This has nothing to do with Anna and her family who run the bar, they are brilliant, ask Joseph to make you a Lamb Kleftico or his King Prawns with tartar sauce, they are to die for. I would go back to Tsilivi and go and go and eat in Anna's bar but I would never stay at these apartments again and give this despicable man my money again.
Hi Luke,
We will be there from the 14th June till the 28th so we will still be there for the couple of days of your holiday, like I say there will be 18 of us but I promise we won't be noisy and spoil anyones holiday, we will just take up all the sunbeds everyday ha ha, I know you will enjoy yourself. Take no notice of the posts on here about Anna and the sunbeds, as long as you don't take your own food and drink round the pool everything will be okay, the reason being is she rents the pool and snack bar from the owners of the hotel and this is her only income so if you are not buying from the snack bar she is not earning anything, also it is against greek law to take your own food etc round the pool, they do visit now and again and you have to have a receipt for anything you have bought. I'm sure if you have been to Greece before then you know all this anyway. Probably see you next June
Hello Vicky,
Had yet another brilliant holiday at Amarylis apartments, got back last sunday and already looking to book for next year. Anna, Nikos, Ioseph and Louis were the best hosts ever, considering there was 21 of us. Thanks Nikos for taking us out to see the island and thanks Anna and Ioseph fot the wonderful food and last but not least thanks Louis for serving us our drinks of which there were plenty and for putting up with us all..
we get to the petros at about 7am next friday morning, will our room be ready when we get there or will we have to wait till midday, if so what is classed as our first night. Thanks for any help
If anyone is going back to Utopia in the next few weeks could they do something nice for Vasso, we all know how lovely she is and how welcome she makes everyone feel and how hard she works somethimes working 16 hours a day or more, what i'm asking is could you take a bottle of ELVIVE shampoo/conditioner or mousse with you for her, a small bottle over there is 5 euros (that was last year) and at the moment it's bogof in tesco's, we all know how much the greeks are struggling at the moment (I know some of us are too), thanking everyone in anticipation
Just had a week at the Alamis, after reading some of the reviews on here i didn't know what quite to expect but was pleasantly surprised when we arrived, I had asked for a ground floor apartment and was put in the old block I think, room was very nice and clean, balcony overlooked the gardens and was very peaceful. Room very clean and well maintained, loved it here and will be booking again in the near future. Only 1 tiny complaint, the sunbeds were very close together and not enough of them, you had to be out really early to get one but saying that the beach is 2 minutes walk away
My nephew had his wedding reception here a couple of weeks ago and a lot of people thought the service was very poor, the restaurant should have been closed to the public that night but it wasn't, we were a party of 40+ plus other customers (who incidentally were getting served before the wedding party) and they're was only one waiter working, we weren't offered drinks, we waited over 40 minutes for starters, when the main meal came the tables hadn't been cleared so needless to say there was no room to put the main dishes, they were squeezed in wherever, when extra rice, potatoes were requested we were told there was no more, we had 1 plate of 4 potatoes between 8 people!. Before people had finished eating the minibus had turned up to take us back to the hotel, the 1st 16 were ushered out of the restaurant very quickly as we were told he wouldnt wait!! The lady who organised the wedding also owned the restaurant so it's not as though she didn't have enough notice to get extra staff or close the restaurant to the public as promised, if anyone is thinking of having their wedding meal there i would warn you to think again as very poor
Went to go in the Red Lion for breakfast last week only to find the restaurant closed, it remained closed the whole time we were there, does anyone know if its going to open again as we are going back in 5 weeks and they serve the best breakfast in tsilivi by far
