We are staying at the Zante Star Hotel in June 2005, (4 adults and a 5 year old)
Have being to Zante before, but not Tsilivi. Are used to the ways of Greece !!,
but wonder what the Star is like. Is it close to the beach? What are
the roads like to the tavernas etc. Will it be suitable for my little
girl?
Any comments from someone who has already being there would be much appreciated.
What can I say, everything has being said before......
Just got back from a week at the Zante Star - it is THE BEST place we've stayed in Greece.
I would thoroughly recommend it to all.
We're looking to get back there asap. My 5 year old cried
on the way to the airport, as she wanted to stay
longer!!!
Benikos is a great taverna. The food is wonderfull, and if you have
kids its a must, as the waiters make them feel at home. Also both times
we went, our little girls meal was free.
To get to Benikos, just head for the main street, and (in the evenings)
look for the row of horse drawn carriages. Theres a supermarket with a
gift shop over it accessed by an outdoor esculator (a bit unusual for
Greece!) Go down the side road, about 30 meters, and its on the left,
opposite a Chinese / Indian restaurant. In the evenings theirs a guy
who stands at the corner of the main road, handing out cards to get you
in.
We intend to go back to Tsilivi very soon, and will definantely be back there.
Have holidayed with Olympic a few times before, and generally they've
been a good company. However, we booked this holiday to Tsilivi in
March, picking Zante partly because the flight times were good (during
the day). Two weeks before our hols in June 2005, Olympic sent new
tickets out, and our outbound flight had changed to 02.40am ( Yes 20 to
3 in the morning!) That ment checking in at 00.40, and basically not
getting any sleep the night before. With a 5 year old in toe, thats not
a good way to start a holiday beleave me!
When I phoned Olympic to find out why, they said it was just one of
those things! We couldn't change the flight, and if we cancelled and
rebooked another holiday with them, we'd have to pay a massive
surcharge.
The holiday itself was great, and I'd recommend
the Zante Star Hotel, and Tsilivi to anyone. Not sure we'll be using
Olympic again though!
We stayed at the Zante Star last year and loved it. The place was modern and really nice. Regarding whether you can stay late in your rooms - I think it best to check with your tour operator. If they are fully booked (word is getting around that its a good place, so likely to be!) then chances are you will not be able to hold onto the room.
After saying that, the owners are very accomodating - we had a night flight out, and arrived at the apartments at 8am! They were fully booked, but couldn't apologise enough for not having a room for us to go straight to. We could leave out luggage in the bar, and they were quite happy for us to rummage through the luggage and use the loos to change into something cooler! They gave us free drinks, whilst we waited, and they kept to their word, and cleaned our room immediately the peolpe left. As a result we were in by 10.30am.Well its been some 4 years since we first visited the Zante Star. We promised Yannis that we would be back - its taken a while, but finally its booked for 27th Aug. Can't wait to get there!
Well back home now in chilly old englang - didn't want to come home!
Hi.
These apartments are great for kids. Assuming you are going during the school holidays there are certain to be other kids about. We went a couple of years ago and our daughter was then the same age as yours. Made friends on the first day!. Pool and bar area excellent. Apartments are the best we have ever stayed in. (For Greek standards!!)
Its a little way from the main area of Tsilivi, but only a 10 min stoll or so. Same distance to beach - I think its about 600 meters or so. Great, quiet location. We normally go to a different Greek resort/ Island/ Mainland for each holiday, as we like to see different places - this is the only place we have visited more than once, its so good!!
