Castaways - (Restaurants in Argassi)

Andrew M  (24 July 2005)

Due to competition from other Tavernas we'd heard rumours that "bad vibes" were being put out about Castaways - All I can say is "take as you find" and try the place.  My kids (never easy to please when it comes to food), my wife and myself thought Castaways was excellent.  No rush to order, eat or get out, even at the time we went (mid/late July).  Staff were very friendly, and the choice of menu was extensive.
Our only regret was that we didn't notice the place a bit earlier.  One more added bonus - whilst there was a courteous smile/nod at the entrance of the taverna from the "doorman", there was not this dashing and/or shouting from across the street that comes from owners/staff of other taverna's, not a million miles away from Castaways.....plus the food from Castaways was better than these establishments anyway.

Granada - (Restaurants in Argassi)

Turn right at the bottom of the t-junction, past the Red Lion, Green Frog etc.....well worth the walk.  Lots of locals eat there (always a good sign), plus if your in the area out of season, the owner informed us the Granada is the only local taverna open all year round.
Apart from the food being excellent, the owner also offered advise on other places to visit/eat on the island, if you were out and about in a hire car/bike.

Double - (Restaurants in Argassi)

Andrew M

I'll have to say average on food/price as I can't remember too much about that.  The reason is, I'm still recovering from the stares of this man, as we were accosted by him once, went in once, but.....never again. (hence the stares whenever we went past afterwards).  Plus there's his apparent "new friend" next door.  They appear to be in competition as to who can can drag who into their taverna first.  If the one don't get yer, the other one might.  Honestly this side of Argassi spoils a nice resort, and has probably stopped us visiting again.
If you want to have a quierter evening and avoid the pitfalls of  Peter, "Peter's friend" and the t-junction, turn right immediately at the bottom of Admiral Apartments and head for the "200 metres to beach sign" by the Jam Restaurant (the Jam staff do not hastle you, and we had a nice meal there), and try your luck along that stretch of road.

Admiral Hotel - (Accommodation in Argassi)

Had to change rooms as we were in the middle of a party of 46 people, all under the same booking !
Smoke from other apartments wafted into our room, but couldn't shut balcony door as too hot.
Not all rooms have air conditioning but you can hire fans at a reasonable rate.
I don't see how anyone can say the place is quiet - There are various signs around the apartments
asking for quiet and to respect other guests (with the threat of possible removal), but forget it.  We had 14 nights of disturbed sleep.....and if you're kids can behave themselves and know when they shouldn't be
playing up, based on our experience, I wouldn't rely on most of the other parents there to follow suit.

Jesters Bar - (Bars in Alykanas)

Andrew M  (18 June 2007)        9/10

First time in resort - Excellent, plus how welcoming are Jane & Co at Jesters.

Last port of call on the left, on road after Fever's Bar/Medusa Teverna etc, before you get to
local houses and old village of Alykanas.  Late night in relaxing easy atmosphere - Couldn't be better.

All the best - Stock up on the Sheridan's - See you next June/July time.

Terrace Coffee Shop - (Restaurants in Alykes)

Andrew M          10/10

Stayed in Alykanas - Walked to end of Alikes and found this lovely little coffee shop - Their Vanilla custard pastries are so good it was well worth another excuse to visit on the lasyt day of our holiday.

Find the time to pay them a visit during the day - Nice and quiet and a excellent way to fill a gap before embarking on your evening meal etc.
