A really up-market sailing club at the northern end of the island. The Peligoni boasts a good selection of boats, boards and canoes with fully qualified instuctors, together with Zodiac safety boats. The club house has excellent food, both Greek and international. There's lovely self catering accommodation in converted cottages in the hills above the club as well as luxury villas nearby. All in all, a dramatic and sophisticated contrast to the more popular reorts further south.
Really good authentic Greek food with fast efficient and friendly service!
The fish is delicious and wonderfully fresh. Zoe is always so friendly and her brother Jimmy is an excellent cook! It can be a little slow if it's very busy, but who cares when you're on holiday and sitting in the middle of a lemon grove!
I loved the little hamlet of Xohoriati in old Alikanas, I've never met such friendly and generous people - I was never short of eggs, courgettes, tomatoes, spring onions, apricots and lemons - the villagers just handed them to us as they passed the terrace of our villa on the way back from their fields. Hillary is one of the best reps I've ever come across and Denis and Andrika at the Mini Market are so kind and helpful - it's like having two extra reps! Just watch out for Denis's sense of humour! A really first rate holiday!
Please don't go to the little beach at Xohoriati that is mentioned below - it's a small, secret paradise and it would be wrecked if more people discovered it! It's quiet, peaceful and unspoilt by watersports and any commercial exploitation, there's only a couple of bars and cafes and just one excellent mini market. You have been warned - stay away! Help us to preserve our idyll!
Susie - please don't assume that I want you to share the secret of Xohoriati with anyone else. After all, it's not a large enough beach to cope with an invasion. If you really must insist on encouraging people to go in that direction, against all my best instincts, please make sure that they patronise the good local places like the Psarapoula fish restaurant and Dennis's mini market.
