The safari was the best. It was the only cold day of our week and
windy but Paul and Simon made it a day to remember. This was the
very last trip of the season and there was 4 jeeps out. Our
driver Peter was excellent company and knowledgeable. Highly
recommended. Lunch was lovely. I did see one horse and we
decided it was a donkey not an elephant!! Did have a tremor that
day we as we were in a churchyard but we never felt it.
Comfort was not a thing you should consider on this trip. Our
kids loved it (5 - 18yrs).
Spent a week covering half term in Kalamaki and was a little
disappointed at the lack of charm. Evenings were spent seeing
which bar had shut that day. Mermaids restaurant and Plus Soda
were excellent with Nick turning on the foam machine for the
kids. Greek night is a 2 hr riot. Zakfari trip a real blast
of adrenilin and wortth it. The best takeaway in town is Tazie's
and the owners are fantastic - we were told how to make dishes and
welcomed back like friends. Unfortunately the beach has so many
fag buts washed up it is a shame for the turtles when they do
hatch. Kalamaki is the little sister of Lagana (18-30's) and
aspires to be her.
Our hotel Klelia, whilst very clean, was empty so it felt like our very
own villa for a while. The buffet there for half board is a bit
too basic in the morning so we headed across to YoYo's which was heaven
and so friendly. In the summer the hotel is at the far end of
Kalamaki so would be a quieter base. The pool in October was
ice-cold, but the sea was just right and we had excellent weather most
days so the sand did get very hot.
A bit disappointed at the amount of rubbish allowed to build up everywhere - fridges and junk along the roadside.
Also they had an earthquake before we arrived - a good ice-breaker conversation and we experienced 7 more tremors.
Not sure if we would go back, but the people were really lovely - maybe we would try a different town.
we spent the last week of October here and were not overly
impressed. The white rooms seemed clean, small but the linen was
old and frayed and the furniture dark and old. We had to keep
asking for hot water to be supplied. The buffet was not extensive
- breakfast was very basic. Evening food was soup, salad and a
choice but very german orientated - not international. The staff
was lovely there though. Only 10 rooms were let out of 40 so it was
quiet.
As it is near the beach and away from main kalamaki strip it is
probably a godsend in July/August. There are no extra facilities
at the hotel just a draughts board. The pool is very slipppery on
the tiles so be careful.
Also if you are downstairs you can hear noise from the upstairs rooms.
