Excellent food, friendly service, reasonable prices... what more can I say! Once we found Skippys, we were there every night!
The food was O.K. but rather expensive. Not a place I'd want to eat at regularly
The apartment was excellent - clean and very spacious. We had a problem with a leaky bathroom ceiling when it rained, but luckily it doesn't rain too often on Zakynthos during summer! It's a good job, because the management were a bit hopeless at sorting out such problems! The pool was very good and the apartments are only 5-10 minutes walk from the beach/resort centre/supermarkets etc. I would certainly consider staying there again if we ever return to Alykes.
We booked through Dionisos Tours and it cost around 10 pounds each for the day, which included lunch. We had the chance to visit the Blue Caves by boat, which cost around 3 pounds each extra and was worth doing. We visited lots of places on the island including the shipwreck view point (from above), a monastry and church. We also stopped in a little village where we had time to look at and buy all the hand woven/embroidered stuff (although I could have done with longer there!!!). We also stopped at a lovely farm shop where they sold olive oil and local wine etc. I wasn't keen on a long coach trip, but I would thoroughly recommend it!
We went on this trip with Airtours. It involved a lot of travelling (around 1-1.5 hours by ferry and then 4 hours by coach) but there were lots of stops along the way, which broke up the journey. We spent the free afternoon/evening exploring the Plaka area of Athens and also saw the changing of the guard and walked around the large park near the palace. The following day we visited the Acropolis and olympic stadium in Athens and Corinth canal on the way home. We really enjoyed the trip and would recommend it to anyone wanting a bit of culture!
We booked a cheap late deal with Airtours and were unsure of what to expect, but they were excellent. The flights were good and there were reps waiting to sort everyone out at the airport etc. The rep at our hotel was around everyday and was very helpful when we had a leaky ceiling in our bathroom. When the hotel management failed to sort out the problem, he paid our bill of around 100 pounds for the air conditioning/TV/safe etc. I would certainly consider using them again!
The resort is quiet and unspoilt by tourists. If you want a peaceful and relaxing holiday, this is the place to come! There isn't alot to do in Alykes itself, apart from chill by the pool/beach, but there are loads of very reasonable excursions if you want a change. We had a great time in Alykes and returned home feeling fully rested!
September is a great time to go to Zakynthos. The weather is still hot, but not as unbearable as during July and Augest. We went 29/8 - 12/9 and found that after the first week of our holiday there were alot less children around (this made it less busy in the hotel pool etc!).
