can anyone tell me more about the studio apartments please. Also, does the Cave bar allow children as I'm sure I read somewhere that its over 18s only? Where are the best places to visit? And is it easy to get round the island?
Does this bar allow children as it says on kalamaki website it's for the over 25's. Help please
Thanks Kat Sounds just the job. As you say it's only to sleep in and sounds ok for that! Glad you had a good time. Can't wait for Aug 14th!! Have fun
HI Forgot to ask last time but do all the appartments have air conditioning as the brochure does say they do. Also, did you go to the cave bar and if so, were children allowed or is it only for the over 25s as stated on website. Thanks for your help
Stayed in Cavo D’Oro – 14 –28 August 2002 and had the time of our lives. So much so that we’ve had mega depression at coming home! Rooms basic, bit crowded with kids bed up but clean and well maintained and more than adequate for sleeping, which is all you need it for anyway. The main appeal for Cavo D’Oro has to be the fantastic pool bar with Harry, definitely the place to be. Starting off with the best breakfast in Kalamaki (don’t believe the hype from other places), great lunch and dinner menu, all served with Harry’s own unique charisma, everyone feels like they’ve known him for ever. Service and food great and with some of the best prices around. This has to be the place to start and finish any day, if only for the laughs, not to mention cocktails. George’s “ Sex on the Beach” has to be sampled, as I did at least 4 times a night! Also the best place to watch the football, sorry Harry but Newcastle are definitely this seasons champions! Take your earplugs if you support Man Utd as Harry is very vocal in his opinions on that score! Still managed to be great with our son Daniel even though he sported a David Beckham shirt for a fortnight! Found hotel staff helpful – didn’t notice the miserable reception staff mentioned in previous reports. However, if you approach most people with a smile and a nice word then the majority will be friendly back. Cavo D’Oro is 5 minutes walk from the lovely beach, and in the middle of a whole range of Greek tavernas. Laganas is a 5 minute taxi ride (5 euros), so you really do have the best of both worlds if you stay here. This might not appeal to someone wanting 5 star room facilities, but the 5 star plus treatment you get from Harry and his lads puts this hotel far above any of the posher ones in the brochure. We can’t wait til we can go back – the sooner the better and wouldn’t stay anywhere else. Thanks Harry for a great holiday – and Happy New Year!!!!! Sue Mick and Daniel (Beckham) Cullum
This is one of the prettiest bars in Kalamaki. Visit at sundown for lovely view over the water to Laganas. Free buggy ride up hill, lovely cocktails and good music, Very friendly staff and a place for young and old. Kids love the turrett. Really nice place to have a drink before your evening meal,or just a place to relax and chill out. Prices more or less the same as anywhere, so defintely a place to visit at least once.
Hi Fred Lying on the beach you can see the planes going in over Laganas but surprisingly enough you don't hear the noise at all. The great thing is Kalamaki only being 5 minutes drive from the airport - none of this long transfer time - and with none of the noise you expect. Start your countdown and look forward!!!
Hi. We stayed here in August and had the best holiday ever. There was a fridge in our room and safety deposit boxes in reception which you pay a little bit for can't remember how much. As to accommodation - depends on what you are after really. 5star luxury isn't exactly the Greek thing but the rooms were clean but basic. Maids came in every day except Sunday I think, we had a childs bed put up which took up a lot of the room but to be honest we only used the room to sleep and change - too much to do to stay in. Will put some photos on site soon for you to see but can't stress too much how good a time we had. Harrys pool bar is just excellent - Harry is definitely one of a kind and the pool bar a great place to start and finish the day. (comes into his own when the football is on!!!) Can recommend the food aswell but we tended to go out and explore the different tavernas however the breakfast couldn't be beaten. Cave bar just up the road has to be one of the most romantic places - even with a child in tow! Loved it there - couple of coctails to start the evening off went down a treat. 2 minutes walk to beach - only bad part we didn't see a turtle though it wasn't for the lack of trying - apparantly we were a bit late in the year for them. Other good food places Paris and the one over the road from there can't remember name but they have a decent greek night - join in with the dancers kind of thing. We like the Greek food so tended to eat the greek way but apparantly there are plenty of places offering english food if you want it. Zepos over the road from the beach also good though we just had lunch there. If you need any other advice just ask but I'm sure you'll have a great time. And say hi to Harry and his crew from me. Can't wait to go back but hubby away in Kuwait at moment so don't even know if we'll get a holiday but thats the only place we'll be going back to. Can't wait!
Hi Doreen
We booked the Cava Doro with Airtours and it is in the brochure this year too. Don't know of any way to book direct.
Spent a brilliant 2 weeks at cavo doro last year - can't believe anyone can not have a good time there. Coming back to Zante on 27th July - have to stay elsewhere but will be visiting Harrys pool bar cos it's what Zante's all about, and our son Daniel wouldn't go back to Kalamaki unless we promised him breakfast and evening drinks at Harrys. Not been many reviews this year so far but will be writing an excellent one I'm sure in a couple of weeks. See you soon Harry and gang. Sue Mick and Daniel xxx
Just reading past comments and had to add my opinion. This was our 2nd year in Kalamaki and can't fault it at all. We like to try all the different tavernas and after 2 visits we finally decided that this one is superb. Kalamki is full of good Greek food when you hunt for it but I have to say that Lambros is far ahead as it's service is absolutely brilliant. The whole point of eating out in Greece is that it is a leisurely affair to take time over and Vicky and Neck are just wonderful. Remembered us from last year and it was just like coming home. My son Daniel aged 9 decided early on in week that this is where we would eat - Vicky is just the nicest person - in fact all the staff were. Must mention other young male waiter, can't remember his name but they were all lovely. Can't wait to go again next year. Cheers Nicky Neck and everyone. Luv Sue Mick and Daniel xxx
Hi Sharon. We stayed at Amaryllis last year and loved every minute. Second time in Kalamaki and couldn't fault hotel. Rooms very spacious (unusual for Greece i think) and spotless. Pool great- family hotel - old grandmother speaks no english but keeps bringing sweets out of shop for the children. Sea great for small kids aswell as can walk miles out before it's even over our knees. Our boy is a bit older (9) but he wouldn't entertain going anywhere else but kalamaki - counting the days already!!! Staying at venus this year but only because we couldn't get booked in amaryllis - just down road though so may still pop in to use pool. One tip - put your towel on sunbed early!!! Quite a German thing to do but we needed to last year in August!!. Have a lovely time. Sue
absolutly horrified that Lambros is gone!! Definitely our favourite - will be visiting Laganas just to see Neck - is Vicki his sister working there aswell. Hope nothing else much is changing in Kalamaki before we get there!!!!
Can you tell me where this is - been twice to Kalamaki and not seen it. Is it on the Zante road?
Hi everyone. Bit short of reviews this year so come on all you lot that are staying here this year, when you get back tell everyone how great it is!
We stayed two years ago and spent a good few nights last year in Harry's pool bar - one of the must go places!
Hi Harry and gang, remember us - Sue, Mick and Daniel - see you again in August and we'll be shouting for you all on Sunday. Come on you Greece!!!!
xxxx
train there are lots of bars/resturants at drunken corner ony five mins walk away from venus then more besides the further you go. I would recommend a taxi to kalimaki centre and take the free ride up to cave bar which is what it says but has great veiws of kalamaki and the bay. sue.
Got back about 3 weeks ago and still depressed. This hotel was brilliant. Donna and Spiro brilliant in bar - sex on kalamaki to die for!!! And the sambucca. Rooms kept clean and everyone really friendly. Pool great - plenty of beds - though they fill up quite quick. Short walk to sea, and shops and tavernas galore. No where is far in Kalamaki and its not exactly a chore having to walk a bit. Will definitely stay here again so get the drinks ready Donna!!
Sue, Mick and Daniel
This taverna is owned by the family that used to have Lambros in Kalamaki. They have now moved opposite Olympia Hotel in Laganas and have the same menu as Lambros and the same good service. Its Neck, Vicky, their sister and momma and poppa not to mention Vickys daughter Eri. Lovely lovely family who deserve this restaurant to do well.
Glad to see people posting good reports now on here. Definitely our favourite place - family are wonderful. Anyone going please say hello to Nek Vikki and Eri from Sue Mick and Daniel and tell them we'll see them next year. (Tell Eri we've started to learn Greek so hopefully we won't need her lessons so much!!)
Does anyone know if Aussie Elvis still does his show. Think last year was supposed to be his last but I'm sure I read somewhere that someone saw him this season.
Hi Harry.
a big thank you to nick and family for making our return visit just like coming home. this hotel just gets better and better - everyone involved in the running of the venus deserves a massive thank you as nothing is too much trouble.
well harry, what can i say. thanks for giving us such a great time. was like coming home for me and daniel - and a great introduction for nicky - she will be back!!
hi nec and family. it was great to return to this great restaurant. food still the best in kalamaki and we should know as we try it all!! definitely the best kleftico and mamas aubergines were great too.
I had Harrys email address but can't find where I've put it!!! Anyone help please?
Hi. Dont worry. You will have a great time. We stayed there on our 1st visit to Kalamaki. Rooms are small but there is a new block which apparantly is a lot more spacious. Harry at the Pool Bar is fantastic and even though we now stay at the Venus as we've been getting good deals, we can't wait to visit Harry each time we return.
This will be our 5th year in Kalamaki and we visit Harry every year. He has always been absol.utely brilliant to us and our son - so much so that Daniel can't wait to see him every year. Its always one of our first places to visit and we have spent many great nights in his bar. His mama is great fun - speaks no English but very effective with the whistle!!
Thanks to all at the Venus. Once again, everything was just perfect - can't imagine staying anywhere else.
Yet again, we had a wonderful time in Kalamaki and it was great to see Harry & Co again. Harry, thank you so much for a great time - we couldn't imagine Kalamaki without you. Say hi to Mama and tell her to keep blowing the whistle!
