Zakanthi - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P

Without a doubt one of the best restaurants we've ever eaten in. It had quality written all over it. We went three times, the food was faultless each time. Be careful if you have the Pork Ribs as a starter - they are without a doubt the best ribs I've ever tasted but they are just soooo filling! We didn't have a problem with the service - in fact it was very good - although we did eat around 8pm everynight (due to young kids!) so maybe before the busy period

and on the subject of price, yes it was expensive by Kalamaki standards but probably cheaper than equivalent restaurants in the UK

Castello - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Ate here on the first night so struggling to remember, the fact that it doesn't stand out in my memory probably tells its own story.

Hong Kong - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P  (01 July 2002)

Food was fantastic on the two nights we visited. The standard of english of the waiters caused a few problems: Teriyaki Wings ended up being Satay Chicken, Egg noodles (despite a discussion to clarify that they were available) became egg fried rice and on our second visit a beer and a shandy became two beers and two little shot glasses of lime cordial! But don't let that put you off, if you like chinese food give it a try.

Aerides Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P  (01 July 2002)

When you look through the menu it looks wide, varied and different from many others in Kalamaki but beware! When it says Oysters on the menu it actually means Mussels. The waiter still insisted they were mussels but I think this was down to poor english rather than anything else. The salmon they served was white!! My wife insists it wasn't salmon but they told her the chef claims that fresh salmon is white, and goes pink if it is frozen??One of what looked like the greek mafia that were chain smoking through a meeting at the next table noticed that we'd been waiting to pay the bill for ages and pointed it out to the head honcho waiter...who promptly short changed us!! Once this was rectified we left and rarely for me I didn't leave a tip.The food we got was cooked well but the rest of the experience was a complete dissappointment.

Michaelos - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

After reading the reviews on here, expectations were high but possibly not reached. I didn't particularly enjoy my main meal but that was probably down to the choice I made more than anything else. My wife's dish included a very large boiled potato which was curiously peeled but left whole! The guys who works in the backroom doing the drinks spotted our year old son and came and took him away! He's got a very young son of his own and was clearly still in that mushy phase! Nice surroundings, good service, nice food. Just not as nice as I'd hoped.

Paris - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P  (01 July 2002)

Again I found the waiters a little stand offish, which is not typical of the waiters in Zante. I agree with the comment about the cheese pies, lovely! However, my main meal, the chops were nice but the chips were awful! Also, what is this Greek fascination with serving rice and tinned veg with everything?!

Petrino - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P  (01 July 2002)

We didn't have this on our researched list of restaurants to go to and, as with a lot of people, unles you take the walk up to Mikaelos you probably don't know it exists. However, try it, we had a very good, relaxed meal. I slobbed out on some sort of burger but a McDonalds it wasn't. Two hunks of beed with some sort of cheesy stuff mixed in with bacon on top, following the aubergine salad. My wife had swordfish which again was excellent. Pity we found this place late on in the holiday.

Parthenon Restaurant - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P

This place wasn't really our cup of tea, OK but not outstanding. A little cramped could be one of the reasons for it. The waiters were very good however. I think we just stuck to the main course this particular night. I had beef steak with some sort of sauce (sorry can't remember the name) it sounded spicier that it ended up being. Rice and tinned veg (one of my pet hates!) was a bit of a downer.

Point Break - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P  (01 July 2002)

Went there for breakfast on my birthday. My Point Break special was fine, my wifes vegatarian was also fine but explain this to me. My meatie one included two sausages and two rashers of bacon. I also got jam with my toast. My wife came with mushrooms instead of the meat (why no mushrooms with the special??), no jam, only the same amount of beans, eggs, tomatoes etc, but was the same price at 4.30??

Stani - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P

The paper tableclothes in the evening was not a good sign, neither was them believing that stacking one patio chair on top of another would be a good, safe substitute for a high chair! I had special kebab which was marinated pork. It was far too dry and tough for my liking. Service wasn't particlarly attentive.

Zepos Taverna - (Restaurants in Kalamaki)

Darren P

We went here a couple of times. Very accomodating staff, lovely food, my two main courses were chicken and bacon souvlaki and lamb kleftiko, both of which were superb. Did anyone strike up conversation with the english waitress. She looked very young (and pale!) just wondered how she ended up there.

Crystal Beach Hotel - (Accommodation in Kalamaki)

Darren P

Excellent hotel, great location right on the beach, wonderful staff from the cleaners, through the waiters and waitresses to Elisabeth the owner. The down side was the standard of cleanliness, it wasn't enough to spoil the holiday or anything, just the kids pool didn't appear to have any direct filtration (although it adjoined the main pool) and as a result soon filled up with dead bugs. Glasses were not regularly collected if on the tables on the grass rather than in the restaurant / bar. The glasses in the bathroom were not cleaned at all during the stay. But these are all minor points. Being located at the end of the resort away from the airport it doesn't suffer at all from aircraft noise and it is well enough away from the main strip to be quiet but close enough to get their in two minutes. A recommendation for when you arrive at the Hellonearth Airport. Don't take the coach transfer, get a cab. By the time we waited an hour in the car park (only later did we find out that it was because someone had lost a case) and spent another TWO HOURS weaving our way through Laganas and Kalamaki - god knows why, we seemed to spend an age outside each hotel, and the rep certainly didn't tell us - we could have taken the 10 minute taxi ride, unpacked, had lunch and spent the afternoon by the pool! Enjoy! We (myself, Andrea, Elliot and Myles) met a lot of friends their, if any of your are reading this drop us an email: darrenpeake@aol.com

Down Under - (Bars in Kalamaki)

Darren P  (01 July 2002)

We spent many night dropping in here with the kids for a quick drink after a meal. Could just sit at the back and chill listening to the music and taking advatange of the wonderful waitress service. Leon is a star. He asked us whether we were staying around for the Elvis impersonator (which was actually him!) one night and I said not likely as we were down to our last two euros for the evening so he took pity on us and got us another couple of cocktails. Good on you, blue!
