Are they fully open yet . They were due to open in April 2001 .We are going in July .
We have just arrived back this afternoon. I endorse the comments of the others who have liked it.Although out of town,it is not to far for a pleasant walk and it means that you are not disturbed by the noise.(Only by the crickets in the surrounding olive trees!)ry out the extensive cocktail menu in the bar - between 7p-9pm they are the cheapest around.Certainly recommended.
Probably the most comfortable place we ate in - very pleasant surroundings .Staff not particularly friendly but the food was very good and reasonably priced.
Good food in nice surroundings .Reasonably priced and the staff were quite friendly. The man on the door was friendly but persistant and it felt like we were being pushed inside. As I had made my mind up to try it anyway it made no difference.
We noticed that the place always appeared full so we tried it. The service was good and friendly .The only night we left the children at the hotel and we had the meze for two.The largest helpings we had whilst on Zante but the quality was not so good.I think that we also also overcharged for drinks!
Probably the best located restaurant in the centre which made it very pleasant. There were 10 in our party (6 children) and the staff were friendly and helpful.Food was also good and reasonably priced.
Claims that it is the oldest taverna on the island. Certainly Greek with slow service and music. Although we had different dishes there was an oily residue underneath them all which we did not find pleasant. Were met originally by a cheerful English speaking chap who then disappeared as he greeted other customers and left the waiting on to a someone else who did not appear interested.
Watch out for the man on the door - everyone at our hotel called him 'Smiler' as he jumped out in front of you with a big grin and shook your hand trying to make you go inside.I was told that he was a Greek actor who was paid on commission for getting people to go in .The food might have been good but he put everyone off and a couple of people got close to hitting him!
I had read the comments on this site before going and was pleased to find it close to our hotel.I suppose being on the outskirts of town meant that it was not as busy and the staff had more time to look after you but it was more than that as they went out of their way to help. The food was great and on the childrens request we returned 5 times .One occasion was my sons birthday when he was serenaded by the staff.I was so impressed that on our last night I organised a party of 25 from the hotel to attend. As it was caberet night they were already busy but we all squeezed in.The night was wonderful and we all remarked that it was one of those unforgetable holiday moments. Thanks once again to Mike and Jan and the rest of the staff for their hospitality. For anyone visiting in the future it is well worth the short walk away from the town centre to find this little gem.
From the roadside it does not look very appealing.Older and not so flashy as the others .Space is at a premium but the staff are friendly and the food was great.More Greek than most.
The place looks better than the food and the service. If in town go next door to the Olive Tree.
I had read the comments on this page before we went.I was immediately disapointed on seeing it although it was very busy.We decided to try it and went up the steps.I noticed that nearly all the tables were for either 2 or 4 and we were a party of 5 .The head waiter told us he did not have a table for six - as if he was trying to tell us that he would be losing out by finding us a seat.We decided to wait anyway and he came back to advice us to go away for a drink and come back. When I eventually saw him grovelling around another group who had seated seperately whilst arranging a larger table I decided to go and never return.
Not much of a Greek menu although that did not matter. My youngest son enjoyed his meal but was the only one.The staff were friendly though.
We paid 5000 DR per head with our 12 yr old going free.If we had booked with the Airtours rep at the hotel it was 10500 DR each!!! We went on the Mantalena which lived up to the boasts of being the largest and fastest boat.It still managed to get into the caves etc and as it was so quick managed to stop 3 times for swimming. One tip I would give is that you will need some flip flop type footwear for the smugglers beach due to all the pebbles.Great value for money. Apparently though the boats cannot always get in at Smugglers bay due to their numbers and if the sea has a bit of a swell. We heard of one person having the end of a finger chopped off walking down the rear gang plank to get onto the beach which was caused by the swell and people diving off the boat into the sea!
You really need a car to get here but it is worth while once you have found a place to park. The only draw back is that there is no taverna or toilets.
When we went it was very windy and reminded me more of Cornwall with all the breakers. We dropped our things on a sun lounger to go to the beach bar for drinks and icecreams for 10 of us and when we went back to them the old bar owner tried to make us pay for them!
It was a long walk from our hotel on the outkirts of town so we did not visit very often but the beach itself was nice altough quite stoney in places.Several beach bars if required. My son got quite badly sun burnt without realising it so please be careful.
We booked the Filoxenia appartments in Tsilivi before they had finished building them which was a cause for concern but they were finished and very nice too.The outward and return flights were good and the food the best I've tasted on any airline. The pilot on the return journey walked down the plane talking and joking with all of us - never known it before and he was brilliant. The rep meeting us at the airport was miserable and there was no help or information whilst waiting in the cramp baggage reclaim. The Hotel rep gave her welcome speech without coming up for breath and did the exactly the same on other nights.Never gave time to take anything in and tried to push the excursions which turned out to be half the price if booked in town.
