Just arrived back from Zakynthos. I did this trip a couple of weeks ago. The weather was perfect and we had a brilliant guide called Hilda. I can't remember how much it cost but we booked it through our Rep. It was good to see the island and Smugglers Cove was beautiful (although very crowded by the time we got there!!) and I have never seen the sea such a gorgeous colour before! We also stopped off at a couple of other spots for a swim! If its possible I would recommend hiring out a smaller speed boat for the day because then you would be able to do your own thing and you would also be able to actually go inside some of the many caves!! The worst bit about this trip was that we on the boat between about 9:30 and 5:30 which was a long day and by about 3pm we were dying to get off!!
I enjoyed the day trip to Kefalonia which we booked through our rep. However, it was a long day (we had to meet the coach at Cozy Corner at 6:30am when people were still up from the night before!!) and most of it was spent on the coach (at least it had air conditioning!!). The caves were good to see and the lake was beautiful but I wish we had longer on the boats! It was nice to see a different island and as I was there for a two week holiday it made a pleasant change from lazing on the beach or by the pool!!
I really enjoyed the day trip to Olympia. It was totally amazing especially if you love history and the archeologists are there working as you walk round. However, it was very hot. If you do this trip make sure you take a bottle of water and a hat - you'll need them!!
the g*y bar!
It did have a bit of a funny smell!!
A brilliant club!! had a good laugh in here, especially the night I spent winding up the barman!!!
I only went in here once and the smell of sick was soooooo bad that it put me off going in again. I would have understood if it was later on in the night but it wasn't!!!
An excellnat bar, with excellant music, a great atmosphere and very friendly staff!!
this bar was s**t with absolutely no atmosphere. everytime we walked passed it was a major mission to avoid the bloke outside trying to get us in!!!
The food here was lovely. If you go, aim to go just before 10 because thats when the blokes do some greek dancing in the fire. They weren't too happy when a lad started smashing plates though (I found it funny!!!).
What can I say, excellant all round!!
A brilliant chinese restaurant!
i came back from staying at plaza 2 yesterday and before i went i read the comments about it on this website and i was quite surprised at how highly it was rated and at how friendly and welcoming george and his family were meant to be. don't get me wrong, the apartments were lovely (perfect location - close to the beach and the main road without being noisey), the pool was lovely, never too crowded and you never had to get up mega early to blag a sunbed, and the food that they served in the bar was gorgeous and reasonably priced. however, the rooms were not cleaned every day (more like every other and when you have to put your used toilet roll in a bin, you want it emptied everyday), the rooms were too hot and we were not told that they hired out fans until near the end of our holiday when we came across some by accident, the supposedly clean towels and sheets that they provided you with were always dirty (my towels were filthy and had what looked like blood stains all over them), and there was always a smell of s**t outside the apartments! when our bathroom floor flooded with the water running under the front door (which it did on more than one occasion), george just let himself into our apartment and didn't even apologise when i was stood there in just a towel (i had just got out of the shower) and made out that it was because everybody was having a shower at the same time! i know greek plumbing isn't the best but this was ridiculous!! when it happened again, we had to go and get george and he then made out that we had blocked it by using too much shampoo, when really the drain was blocked! anybody with any sense would have checked the drain the first time! there was no apology, we probably got about 5 words out of george the whole two weeks we were there (i don't know about being the 'lazy man' but more like the 'grumpy man'), the cleaner was extremely rude (i asked her a question and before i'd even finished she screamed 'no, reception, reception' at me and ran out of the room!!) and when we left we stood in reception with our suitcases and the key in our hand. the staff didn't say thanks or goodbye or anything. we just thrust the key into somebodys hand and left. the only person i would rate is the young girl with dark hair (sorry i don't know her name!!). zakynthos is a wonderful island (although the whole airport experience was a nightmare) and i would definately like to go again, however i can categorically say thet i would never set foot in plaza ever again!
What an absolute nightmare!!! We were delayed by an hour leaving Gatwick because of other planes flying to Zakynthos. We were not told about this until after we got on the plane - so we had to sit like sardines for an extra hour!!. When we got to Zakynthos we couldn't land straight away because 2 other flights were landing. We then had to stand in a blistering hot, crowded room for two hours waiting to collect our luggage because there was only one conveyer belt and only one bloke putting all the lugagge on it!! Two flights landed just before us and three flights landed just after us and we were all waiting to collect out luggage at the same time. The crowd around the conveyer belt was at least 4 people thick, which didn't make it particularly easy to get your luggage off! The worst thing was that people who arrived on flights after ours, got their luggage first - they could at least make it fair!!! On the return trip we had to stand outside in the blistering heat waiting to check in. After we had checked in, we then had to stand outside in the blistering heat
again for what seemed like an eternity waiting to go through passport control. We were told to make sure we were in the departure lounge 45 minutes before our flight, but we were still stood in the queue outside at this point!! The really annoying thing was that there were people stood in front of us in the queue on later flights. We then had to stand in a crowded departure lounge where a disgusting stale sandwich cost me 5 euros!! We then nearly missed our flight because although we were regularly checking the screens they never bothered to update them. It was only when my friend saw people that she recognised walking through one of the departure gates that we heard the 'this is the last call for flight bla de bla' message on the tannoy!!! I was glad to get home!!
Funny, I thought this was a web site where you could inform other people of your experiences in Zante, which was what I was doing!! Despite the problems I had at Plaza 2, I still had an absolutely amazing holiday and I fell in love with the island. I would definately recommend to people a holiday in Zakynthos (I just won't be recommending Plaza 2) so as for Butlins next year - I might as well stay at home in sunny Bournemouth!!!!
And you actually make money as a travel agent?
