Just back from two weeks at the Valais Hotel, Alykanas, and went to Romanza three times. Always a warm welcome and some additional wine provided on the house at our second visit. Our party of four particularly enjoyed the 'Greek Variety' main course and the salads (though at many restaurants these are often overpowered by dressing, so ask for it 'on the side'). Would have given it a higher rating but on our third visit, when the restaurant was very full, the service was a little sluggish, a meat dish was overcooked and they got one fish order completely wrong, delivering swordfish instead of sole.
Went twice as a party of four and travelled by horse and carriage on both occasions. The restaurant will deduct half the price of one carriage ride from your bill if you ask. Seemed to be very popular and the food was excellent, especially the sea bass and a Greek variety starter that was big enough for everyone to dip into. The live bazouki and guitar music on Thursday evenings adds to the ambiance and is worth planning for. There's a small outside children's play area, so pick your table carefully if you prefer cats to kids.
We went on recommendation, particularly to sample their sole. An extremely warm welcome got the visit off to an excellent start and the food was good, but somehow it didn't fully come up to expectation(perhaps the recommendation had been a little over-exaggerated) and the portions seemed just a little lightweight compared to many other restaurants we visited. Some additional wine 'on the house' was greatefully received.
We went along for a Thursday Greek night which, frankly, made up for the overall averageness of the evening. The music and dancing were entertaining and the fire dance was particularly enjoyable. Unfortunately, somewhere behind the scenes the chef was putting on his own fire extravaganza resulting in the Lamb Kleftiko being heavily overcooked.
