To Abbie Hill, Argassi beach is not the best on the island. However, I had a wonderful holiday there a couple of years back. On this holiday we did not leave Argassi apart from going on a couple of excursions. I came back to England remebering many days laying on a lilo in the sea (don't know if I have spelt that word right or not) looking up at the blue sky and thinking how lucky I was. As far as I am aware travelling to other beaches is easy. As far as I can remeber the only problem with Argassi is the size. It MAY be a problem to find space, I'm not sure because we went at the end of September and it was quiet then and there was plenty of space. If you can't find space, take my advice, buy a lilo and sunbathe in the sea and remember how lucky you are! Our holiday to Argassi was wonderful. Hope you have a lovely holiday too!
Went to Diana Palace a couple of years ago - it was a lovely place to stay in.
I HAD ALREADY SEEN THE WONDERFUL SIGHT OF SMUGGLERS COVE. I WANTED TO TAKE MY HUSBAND TO SEE THIS WONDERFUL SIGHT. UNFORTUNETLY WE BOOKED VIA MANFREDA TOURS (I do not know if I have spelt this right - however they are the ones by the taxi stop on the corner). THE VERY NICE MAN SAID THAT WE WOULD SEE ALL THE LOVELY SIGHTS ON THE ISLAND INCLUDING SMUGGLERS COVE - OUR MAIN POINT FOR GOING ON THE TRIP IN THE FIRST PLACE!. WHAT THAT VERY NICE MAN NEGLECTED TO SAY IS THAT WITH ANY KIND OF WAVES AND SLIGHT WIND THEN THE OLD TRADITIONAL WOODEN BOAT (Boasted that they are the only wooden boat left on the island) CAN NOT GET YOU TO WHERE YOU WANT TO GO. WE MANAGED TO MAKE IT TO THE BLUE CAVES UNTILL THEY TURNED BACK BECAUSE WE WERE NOT ALLOWED ANY FURTHER. I WAS PLEASED FOR SAFETYS SAKE BUT UPSET THAT WE DID NOT SEE THE BREATH TAKING SMUGGLERS COVE! THE GUESTS ON THE WOODEN BOAT WERE TOLD NOTHING!!!!!! WE WERE THEN PUT OFF THE BOAT BEFORE GETTING COACHES. WE DID NOT GET TO SMUGGLERS COVE BUT WE BELIEVE A STONGER BOAT WOULD NEVER BE TURNED BACK I JUST DON'T THINK THE OLD TRADITIONAL BOAT COULD GET PEOPLE ROUND THE ISLAND. THEY ARE TAKING PEOPLES MONEY AND IT IS ALMOST AS IF THEY KNEW BEFORE SETTING OFF THAT WE WOULD NEVER MAKE IT!
IF YOU GO TO ZEPOS HAVE THE SMOKED TROUT STARTER - LOVELY EXCELLENT FOOD. THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLENT TOO. OUR FAMILY STAYED IN KALAMAKI FOR 2 WEEKS AND THE LAST 4 DAYS WE WENT TO ZEPOS AS WE FOUND THEM TO BE THE BEST TAVERNA AT THE RESORT. ZEPOS IS VERY NEAR TO THE BEACH. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY BY TRYING EVERY TAVERNA OUT - VIST ZEPOS!
This beach is very safe for children. You can walk a little further towards laganas and find the beach less busy. Kalamaki beach never felt overcrowed at any time during our high season holiday. IT WOULD BE BETTER IF US TOURIST WOULD NOT LEAVE RUBBISH ON THE BEACH. I COULD NOT BELEIVE THE AMOUNT OF CIGERETTE ENDS BY THE SUN BEDS. THIS IS ONLY IN A SMALL AREA - SO DONT BE PUT OFF. BUT I CAN NOT BELIEVE PEOPLE CAN HAVE SUCH BAD MANNERS. I am a smoker and every last cigerette end was put in a bin on leaving the beach. There is no excuse. The turtles had been laying eggs on the beach - be aware that you do not use the beach behind the sun beds and that distance of the whole beach. It was not very clear but they need to have these areas protected. IF YOU ARE GOING TO KALAMAKI BEACH YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME. THE BEACH IS GREAT AND VERY SAFE FOR CHILDREN BECAUSE IT IS SO SHALLOW.
Our family really enjoyed the Cave Bar. My little girl insisted we go there again. Each time we had one drink. The Cave bar is very pretty and the view is great. I must say the music is very very loud. They do play good music so for a trendy mum this was not bad. We were staying in the Cavo'doro studios and listened to the music every night till late. As already mentioned the music was good so we did not mind singing along to the songs while having a sit down on our terrace. Go there and see if it is your type of thing!
Unless you are staying in the Cavo doro studios then do not waste your time. It was ok to have a night cap in but not exactly the best place to be.
Kalamaki is a wonderful place to visit and in August it did not feel over run with tourist...
I was a little bit disappointed with the staff at the Cavo doro studios. They were not particularly friendly and we took our business else where for the 2 weeks we stayed with them. We shopped in another shop, we drank in other bars and ate elsewhere too. We even found a better swimming pool at the Hotel Kleia (I think this is the right spelling I am not sure). Unless you got up very early and put a towel on the sun bed you had no chance in getting near the pool. The swimming pools depth marks are very very wrong. The swimming pool was quite small and not that great. NOW DO NOT GET ME WRONG WE HAD A GREAT HOLIDAY AT KALAMAKI. THE BEACH IS LOVELY AND MANY OF THE TAVERNAS WERE LOVELY. THE ROOMS ALTHOUGH BASIC WERE QUITE NICE. IT WAS NICE WHEN YOU CAME BACK TO YOUR APARTMENT AND WAS ABLE TO HAVE A DRINK ON THE TERRACE! I AGREE VERY SMELLY TOILET SYSTEM. BY THE END OF THE 2 WEEKS HOLDIAY MY LITTLE GIRL DID NOT FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THROWING TOILET PAPER DOWN THE LOO - BLESS HER SHE HAD GO VERY USED TO THE GREEK WAY.
