We will be coming to zante at the beginning of July travelling with Direct Greece & staying at Villa Thea, this is apparently almost on the beach in Old Alykanas does anyone have any info about this area we are hoping that it is quiet with a sandy beach can anyone help?
I am so pleased to have found this Web-site, I have been looking for info on villa Thea for ages! It sounds just perfect for us quiet & peaceful, the location sounds fantastic. I would like to know if it is right on the beach as the brochure says & do we have direct acess, also is it a lovely sandy beach? We have travelled with Direct Greece for the last 2 years and we are very impressed with them, we've never been to Zante not sure what to expect but can't wait until July 6th to find out.
Hi Simon
Thanks for your reply, really looking forward to holiday now not long to go. This area sounds lovely and hopefully this beach will be a bit quieter then the main beach.
We travelled with Direct Greece in July this year. We stayed at villa Thea in Old Alykanas. Direct Greece is a superb company we were met at the airport with a drink & then had a taxi transfer to our accomodation. Although the Villa was very basic it was in a great location, very peaceful with fantastic views. We have travelled with Direct Greece for the last 3 years, they are a small company and very helpful and we would certainly travel with them again. The only downside is that we had to fly with Mytravel! in our opinion they are the worst airline we have ever flown with!!!!
Fantastic Taverna best in the resort. We ate here lots of times and the food was always superb. The owner was very friendly and he was so impressed with our 5 year old son speaking little bits of Greek he gave him free ice-creams, which as you can imagine my son thought was wonderful. This was our favourite taverna very Greek and not at all pushy like most of the other ones.
In our opinion Dafni is the best beach on the island. It's off the beaten track so not too busy, well worth that drive down to it!! We absolutely loved it here the water was so warm and the scenery was lovely. It was very peaceful and after Gerakas which was packed with hungover foul mouthed clubbers!! it really was paradise.
This is in reply to Richards message from 20th July. We were in Alykanas last year, thankfully stayed outside the main resort at Old Alykanas which was beautiful. Alykanas itself is much too commercial and has lost most of its Greek charm you could be anywhere! Richard talked about the beggars and street sellars coming around the tavernas, they were a real nuisance and I would just like to say that we've been going to various Greek islands for the last 15 years and have NEVER come across this before! Maybe it's because we tend to stay away from very popular islands and resorts, but it's not the norm and they were very annoying, it was another nail in the coffin for Alykanas as far as we were concerned!
