Very helpful, not pushy, good air conditioned car - thoroughly recommended for those 40 degree days when a jeep might seem like a good idea.... Get out and see the beautiful island, away from the very english main resorts... You'll get a map, lots of ideas on where to go for beaches, sights and restaurants.. See Julie during the day. The best thing we did whilst we were there - especially when you watch everyone else traipse to the pool every day....
Why does everyone monopolise the first 100 metres of the beach? I'm glad they do cos if you walk a little further you'll have a lovely secluded spot away from the crowds.... Get a parasol - definate requirement. Kalamaki beach thorughly recommended - unless you hire a car and get out to some even better ones... Walked to laganas from Kalamaki along the beach (1 hour) - it's secluded for ages until you approach Laganas and then people sit on top of each other - literally. Hire a boat or get an hour trip to see the turtles from Laganas beach - we did and saw lots, swam with them too, excellent experience.
Arrived by Costa's Pool Bar and it looked OK, nothing out of this world. Our (clean)room (for 3) was literally that, a room with 3 beds, a kitchen area with fridge and hotplate and a very limited supply of anything to cook on or eat off. Seperate shower / toilet. Nice balcony overlooking quiet road and pool - and the sea in the distance. Fans available and recommended but get them much cheaper at a local supermarket ( Sofia's). During the day all is well. At night the pool bar is noisy and it goes on until the last person goes. People swim until they've had enough - is the pool ever cleaned? Finally realised during the last week of our stay that a fan drowns out the noise of the bar music. Mosquito's are common but we faired well - get something to repel them anyway, cream, electric things or combustable things! Or all of them! Room service poor - sheets and towels changed once a week. Toilet bin emptied every day. Very very hot at night - as you might expect. Although not brilliant, we saw much much worse and apart from the noise it wasn't too bad. Oh yes - the Brits have taken over the Germans - we had a good laugh most mornings watching the pool regulars taking their towels down to their favourite sun loungers at 8.30 - returning to bed and then turning up at the pool again at 10.30. Some people spend all day every day at the pool - there is a fantastic beach 12 minutes walk away - go there. Even bettter, get a car and explore. Do not go to this island and just see Costa's swimming pool. Aircraft noise is no problem at all.
Went for a lunch time greek salad and cool bottle of white wine. 4 other couples in the restaurant. 25 minutes later our wine gone, us fed up, our salad arrived. What is this place like if it's busy?? Not particulary recommended -never looked busy at night time either.
Food was good - one of the better eating venues of Kalamaki. Recommended, quite cheap too.
Good location, nice cool sea breeze. Food good, service good, another of the better eating venues of kalamaki.
Everthing about the place was good - until I awoke the next morning and realised how much I'd been charged. First night there, tired, slightly drunk - ripped off - possibly. Well worth a visit but watch the bill.
We did this trip by driving around from Kalamaki to a nearby bay from where a boat leaves for the ship wreck. 3000 Dr each for a 25 minute ride, going into some caves too, and then finally stopping at the very over crowded ship wreck beach. Look at the photo and imagine 10 boats of various sizes mored there - with all the people too. A good visit admittedly but if you're not nimble enough to jump off the boat and clamber back on - don't bother. One lady was sea sick whilst moored at the beach. The bigger boats do have gang planks to walk down.
We hired a car and drove through this British suburb of Zante for a laugh. Terrible place for the unsuspecting tourist wanting something even a little Greek. Club 18 -30 types will love it. Otherwise - don't go anywhere near the place.
To get away from the totally English main resorts you require a form of transport. You can then escape to beautiful beaches such as this - and many more en - route. A lovely beach, quiet (unless a group of rowdy Italian kids invade your privacy) and secluded. Parasol recomended - a mini market close by in case you haven't got the days essentials.. Moral of the story - get a car and get out of Laganas or Kalamaki - unless you came to Greece for the English abroad experience...
This is a good beach to visit after a drive to the far end of the Island. No sand - just stones - but that aside it's small and clean. There are some pedalos and kayaks for hire too. Not particularly busy either.
Hire a car to get to this beach and the many others along the peninsula. Or get the bus. Big beach, very hot sand! Watersports expensive - rides on banana and ringos lasted for 6 minutes from start to finish - for £6 & £8 respectively. Take a parasol - or hire a beach one for quite a lot of money too. Good clean beach, clear water - and a shower to de - salt before you leave - which is an added bonus.
Arrived late one afternoon. Not many people, beach quite narrow and sandy. Sea had some waves - it was quite windy earlier in the day. Good for a change if nothing else - you'll need some transport to get there of course.... The beauty of the beaches in this area is that there are loads of them, culminating in Gerakus, and you can have a quick swim in all of them! Hire a car and get out of Laganas or Kalamaki - see some of the Island because it's well worth it.
Another of the more upmarket Kalamaki restaurants, away from the people who'd rather eat burgers & chips. Excellent food, excellent value. Drinks for 3, starter for 2, 3 main meals and a bottle of wine for £16. Equal to Zepos for best restaurant in Kalamaki.
If you like your beaches crowded and to sit on top of everyone else you won't be disappointed with Laganas beach. However, if you are prepared to walk up the beach for 10 - 15 minutes, the scene changes somewhat and you can enjoy your own space. From what I saw of the busy bit, bearing in mind we didn't stay, it was too busy, too noisy, too many people selling trips, fruit salads, etc, & generally not very nice. There is far better all over the Island than this beach...
