Ah,
Utopia! My home from home. We will be back in September via
Athens (an adventure in itself). If anyone has any further info
on George no longer working at the bar I'd appreciate it. It'll save me
trying to phone him because he never answers. Probably sleeping off the
activity of the night before (usually returns from Laganas when it
starts to get light). Vaso is just gorgeous, what more can I say.
Looking foward to coming home in September.
Margaret
and Danny are the best hosts you could ask for. The food is
second to none and even gives Manos a run for his money. The
variety is great and it really pays to use fresh ingredients in
wholesome, homemade food. I am one fat b@**@*d and it's all thanks to
Mags. Too many crepes and the rabbit is to die for. We met up with a
couple of our Zakinthian friends (Yanni and George of Utopia fame) who
both had the rabbit and loved it. I recommend Sweet Revenge to anyone.
The variety of food is spectacular and the atmosphere is great.
A
big 'Yassou' to little Sofia (who is getting taller by the month!) and
best wishes to all 3 generations we have had the pleasure of
meeting. 'It's a bloody long way', but we will see you in
September.
Terry & Jacq.
Loved
this bit of the island. The boat trip is quite a nice adventure as you
wade from the gangplak onto the beach. (you will some decent footware
because it's not a sandy beach. The wade back onto the boat was
at chest height on account of the tide, so be prepared. It's a
good idea to take a picnic as prices on the boat are a bit mad.
The
water in the bay is crystal clear, as you would expect and to see the
wreck from the beach looking up to the tiny people on the viewing
platform is a nice contrast for when you're on the viewing platform
looking down.

Gyroland is great if you're looking for snack while on the move or a
nice relaxing, tasty meal with some excellent local wine. Great
location for people watching and the grub is fantastic. A very healthy
kebab compared to what we get in the UK. As with many places you
really notice that the food, including the pitta bread, is fresh and at
it's best. The atmosphere is great and Demitris and his brother
(sorry, never caught his name) work hard, day and night but seem to
really enjoy what they are doing. We are coming back in September
to stay at the Sunrise Hotel at Demitris suggestion.
I can heartily recommend you grab a kebab on the way by - you won't regret it.
Good food, original menu and decor. A bit pricey - you can eat just as well or better for significantly less money.
Fantastic food served by some great people. We ate here for the
first time a few years ago because we couldn't be bothered walking far
from the hotel. They take great care with the service and for
traditional Greek fayre they are hard to beat. Make sure you can
loosen your belt or wear elasticated trousers. You will want to clear
your plate here. I look forward to my first night in
Tsilivi this September.
Funny place this one. The first time we ate there it was
great. But on two subsequent occasions we were less than
happy. Our hostess was delightful and friendly on every occasion
but started to take the piss. After finishing our basket of bread
(because of the food we had ordered) she noticed and replenished our
basket with a friendly wink. Now, to me that would suggest she
was doing us a favour, but the extra bread was on the bill, as was the
seemingly free top-up of wine that we didn't ask for. A bit cheeky, and
not cheap either.
The last straw for me was when I had ordered the Lamb Kleftico which is
delivered to the table wrapped in foil and flaming. There was an
overpowering scented smell that tainted the food and I lost my appetite
half way through the main course - an event which is unheard of as I do
enjoy my food. As I sat there feeling none to well I worked out
where the smell was coming from. the accelerant used to fuel the
flame was cheap scented lamp oil which had been liberally squirted over
the top of the foil containing the food. The very action of knife and
fork pierces the bottom of the foil and you get the full benefit of the
scented oil through your food. A bit thoughtless and resulting in
us eating anywhere-else-but-nefeli.
You want to eat at McDonald's? You've got to be kidding me!
there are so many REAL restaurants you would need your examined if you
choose to eat here. It was open when we were there in May and I
hope it will be closed by the time we return in September. What a
blot on the landscape. I agree with one of the other comments - you
know it's open before you see it because some ignorant peasants will
have dropped their McDonald's litter wherever they finished their
burger. These people should be shot... slowly. If you want
to eat muck, stay at home or go to the land of the free (that's a
laugh) and eat with other brain donors like George Dubya.
If the service is bad or the food is sub-standard then what do expect.
If you choose to eat here then you deserve all you get. Have a
kebab from Gyroland and do your tastebuds a favour.
So,
we too have just returned from Zante and are missing it already
(despite Gary making that awful noise). Someone has asked for a
"picture of those two burds in Utopia bar) and I am only too happy to
oblige. The atmosphere in the bar is great, and even when the lights go
out there is still a lot of (good, clean) fun to be had.
Many
familiar faces are to be seen here as the same party animals (and
animal impressionists) return year after year. See you all in the
summer of '07. Good luck with that phone Destan.
