After reading the comments on this page before we went, I was a little worried. However my worries were unfounded. What an excellent Hotel, Very Very Clean, Very Friendly, Excellent Food, Fantastic view over the resort of Argassi and Zante Town. The Hill can be a bit of a killer especially late at night after you have sampled the local brew, but as said before, you can always cut through the commodore hotel.A word of caution, watch the marble steps, very dodgy when wet. The rooms were basic, but comfortable and had security boxes in the cupboard. What the hotel lacks in *****s it makes up for in its staff. They are all extremely hard workers and nothing is too much of a problem. We really think that the star rating should be higher. My family and I would like to thank, Juno(Mgr),Aspa(Recp/Ent),George(Chef)Alexia and Costas for a wonderful time they made the holiday fantastic and if georges son is reading this, your mum is great and your dad is a fantastic cook. Thank them all for us and keep up the good work.
We have just spent 2 weeks on self-catering basis at the Captains. The room was just a hotel bedroom with a sink and mini two ring cooker on the worktop next to it - not overly impressive. The hotel is ideally situated if like us you are a young couple looking for a quiet relaxing break as there were not very many children around and the hotel is away from all the noise of the town centre. The hill is not as bad as is being made out on this page in my opinion you can cut throught he Commodore and it is only a few steps up to the Captains. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful although the cleanliness of the rooms is not great. Certainly not the worst place I have ever seen.
Hi. We went to the captains on the 23/08/01 for a week but we absolutly hated it. I have a son, 15, and a wife. We couldn't get into the pool or around it because it was full of tiny children. We went for a swim at 6pm and were thrown out by a man who was tipping a bucket of chlorine in the pool. I was very annoyed. The room was supposed to be self catering but it was so small that there wasn't hardly room to wash up or make a meal. This is the worst accommodation we have ever had in Greece and we've been around a bit. The climb up the hill is very steep but if you don't want to climb the hill you can take the option of climbing the 103 steps up through the Commodore to room 211 on the second floor. We would never go again.
paul go to olympic rentals but do not accept their first price haggle with them it will be worth it, also my two aged 6and 7 loved playing in the play area of an evening whilst we sat on the restaurant terrace, overlooking them, having drinks from the bar.
we are staying at the captains on 27/09/01,where is the best place to hire a car for a few days, also we have 2 small children aged 4 & 8, is there plenty to do at the hotel or the surrounding area, how long does a stroll to/from the beach take.
dear jacquie we got back yesterday had a fantastic time the hotel is up quite a steep hill but you can go through the commodore which made it a lot easier. no phones in the room but if you are with vodafone on your mobile phoning home is easy.fans are available to rent at a reasonable rate from reception. the food is fantastic especially the roast potatoes hope you have as good a time as we did!!
We are going to stay in the Captains hotel on 3rd September. We havent been away for 4 years and would like to catch up with any changes in this hotel. eg are there phones in the rooms as the Thomson Brochures do not say. Also i guess there is no air conditioning in the hotel, so can you hire fans ?
Eleanor Just to let you know the Food at the Captains in my opinion was excellent. Breakfast was typical Continental. Bread, Eggs, Ham, Cheese, Jam, Biscuits. Dinner is an all you can eat Buffett. Soup, Salad Bar, Meat dishes, Chips. There are different choices each night. The only thing missing was Icecream for the Kids but in town there are lots of places to buy it. Argassi town is lovely lots of shops loads of Bars Look on the Bar Site for more details. The hotel is incredible clean and the rooms are quite spacious especially 227 our Room was huge. We travelled with JMC so if you see Louise say Hello from Me.
Shaz and Chris Sorry we have just missed you. We came back on 5 August 2001. We have 2 kids aged 6 & 4 and I can honestly say that this was the best holiday ever. The hotel is wonderful, beautiful pool extremely friendly staff and a wonderful location. The town of Agassi is excellent for families. Just down the road you will find the Tropicana this has an outdoor Cinema showing all the latest films and mosts nights a Magician. In the town Centre there are Go Carts and the Wreck is out of this world. An outdoor adventure playground and Sand Den. My Husband says that the best English breakfast was at the first Taverna as you go down the Hill next Door to the Supermarket. I am sure you will have a Great time. We did.
HI, I am considering booking a holiday to these apartments for September this year, it is pretty cheap and am wondering why. What I need to know is:- Is the food good? Are the apartments clean? What is Argassi like? Is there plenty to do? I really would appreciate your help, Many Thanks Eleanor & Yhan Leszek

I got back from Argasi on the 24th July and I stayed at The Captins and it was a really nice hotel I did not see no rats or maggots only one lizzard. The food is georgous cooked by George and the waiters are really nice and helpful. I will deffinetly stay there next year.
Hi Carolyn, we arrive at the hotel on 17 July. So find us by the pool and we'll let you know what we have found out about the place. I'll keep an eye out for you and your family.
I am staying at the Captain's Hotel in July, with my girlfriend Lisa, and would like to know where to head (within a few miles) in order to find a "nice" beach. Also, can anyone recommend some good restaurants.
Carolyn, your husband will be fine,Amstell & Mythos are greek beers(mythos not as heavy)but in Argassi you can find bars ie Red Lion on main road with carling,Tetley & all english beers. Did not stay at Captains hotel but there are quite a few play areas for kids.Alson just out of town there is a fun castle which is a adventure place with go-carts,bouncy castles and reptile house.listen out for the man in the car advertising it.Have fun.Lyn Instone
just wandering how long it will take us to walk down to the beach
Hi well i went to the captains last year and even though their is a hill its fab, u dont have to walk up and down the hill as u can cut through the commadore and use the stairs, THATS WHAT I DID! There was no rats and no maggots in my room infact it was clean and very nicely furnished, hope u all have a good time, and if your going in october then maybe we'll meet up. HAVE FUN!!!!! Also as the captains is up hill u dont get the noise from the pubs and bars which is good if u like a bit of peace>
Hello again Zante lovers!!! My husband Adi is a big beer drinker and would like to know what beers are available both in the captains hotel and in the town itself.we will be there 22 july for 2 weeks, have 2 kids aged 6 and 4 and would also like to know what facilities for children there is. thanks carolyn willey
we stayed in the captins last year and yes we did enjoy it ,problem was that we had a lizaed in our room so we send someone up to remove it and when ardy pulled back the fridge there was maggots behind there ewwwwww!!! one thing i would like to say is ....THERE IS A BEACH!!!!! RIGHT AT THE BOTTOM!!!!!!OF THE HILL!!!!! see you there in july carolyn its up a very steap hill!
can anyone find a picture to the place? we have searched all over for some - ???
The Captain's is on the same hilly street as the Admiral appts. Avoid the latter if you want peace and quiet. We were just there, and children were running riot! Captain's is peaceful, lovely views. Food in Agassi was excellent everywhere, loads too for vegetarians. There are no beaches in Agassi! Shops open all day, every day. The larger shops in Zakynthos close afternoons. Zak. is a short taxi or train ride away. Beware of the Zakynthian humour! No, there are no rats or snakes, or tigers etc.
We go to zante every year and stayed in the captians in 1997 rooms are ok a little on the small side but its in a lovely location just outside of argassi which can be quite lively i recommend it but its quite a walk up the hill
My family and I are going to the Captains Hotel in July this year. Is there anyone else out there who has been recently to give us some idea of what to expect. I have heard that the food is good. Also we are a family of 4 will the rooms be big enough. Where there any sign of Rats??
I went in June 1999 and the rooms are basic, there's a nice view and there is a resteraunt with good sea and town view. The staff are very, very friendly and helpful. Nice pool. The rooms are of a reasonable size when we went self catering with a nice balcony. I would recommend it.
WHAT IS THIS HOTELS FACILITIES AND ROOMS LIKE.
