I'm off to Argassi on Zante for the first time on 19th June. Has anyone stayed at the Gazebo Inn? Also any general tips or handy hints for a newcomer would be welcome! Thanks.
Being situated about 3 mins walk from the centre of town gives a welcome degree of peace and quiet. Our room (No. 18) had twin singles, a wardrobe, table and chair, a bedside table with draws and individual bedside lights. In the corner was a small kitchette comprising a two ringed electric cooker, a decent sized fridge (with freezer section) a selection of cutlery and plates/cups etc. The room was clean and tidy and during the week we were there (19 - 26 June 2003) the maid gave it one full make over plus 3 or 4 visits to empty the bins (those Mythos beer bottles get everywhere!). Outside the bedroom we had our own balcony area with tables and chairs and even a washing line. The bathroom had a shower, a wash hand basin, a towel rail and a low level WC. The ONLY drawback was the lack of air conditioning. It was boiling and even though we had a fan on pretty much all the time it was hot and sticky every night (temp never dropped below 28c even in the middle of the night!!!). That aside, it's a lovely hotel with beautiful views out across the mountains one way and to the sea the other. Great place!
Rejoice! A 100% improvement. There are now two cash machines in Argassi with a new one pretty much the other side of the street to the old one.
Well we must have gone on a really off night (21 June 2003). The meeter and greeter out front is as slick as they come but having been tempted in we found the food on the platter did not meet the quality of his patter. I had dry little cubes of chicken wrapped in bacon which were bland but edible however sadly the veg was the usual pre cooked chips, rice, broccoli and carrots which seem pretty much stock in trade for many of the local restaurants. It was ok but nothing special and out of the 6 restaurants we ate at during the week this one came in 5th (only beaten by the vile muck they tried to feed to us at Athena's).
Well I think Nicola was too kind, it was worse than that. We ate there 25 June 2003 and it was the pits. I had a kind of kebab worse than anything I could pick up from any UK kebab takeaway but the real trophy of the day goes to my partners steak. She decided to try their fillet steak and whatever it was fillet steak it wasn't. It was a bit like stewing steak (but tougher!) and it was covered in an acrid smelling sauce that burnt the lips straight off of your face! After one bit and plenty of spluttering and gasping for water my partner sent the steak back and asked for a proper fillet steak without the toxic sauce. When it came back it was obvious they had just run it under the tap. By now now the waiters had decided they no longer spoke English and sought refuge in looking confused and shrugging their shoulders. Eventually a waiter bought us over a drink each as an apology which tasted awful (p*ss mixed with worcester sauce anyone?). A night to remember for all the wrong reasons!
A nice one. Good food, decent tables and chairs (tablecloths even!) and a pleasant setting just back from the road. I had the pot of lamb and it was lovely. My partner had something equally nice (can't remember what it was). The veg were also nice and fresh and crisp. Free drinks were provided at the end of the meal and including a litre of wine the whole thing came in at less than £14. Worth a visit.
The best! Over the first 6 nights we tried a different restaurant every night and then decided that the best should have a return visit and this one was the winner. The food was splendid on both visits, the service excellent and the little extra touches like a proper basket of uncut bread with some slices of toasted cheese bread thrown in were appreciated. It's a little off the main drag (set about 100 yards back from the road) but it has the nicest surroundings by far. Free brandy at the end of the meal and inc litre of wine excellent value at just under £14! If you only visit one restaurant in Argassi I'd recommend this one. P.S. Also has waiter with smallest ass in the world!
A good one. It's very much stack 'em high and sell 'em cheap but it suits the place and you also don't have to hang for ages to eat. I had a nice kebab meal and it was massive with a lovely olive oil pitta and tons of chips and salads. My partner had a chicken dish in a creamy sauce, very tasty. The house wine was very reasonable and having downed one litre they gave us another litre free which seems a great deal to me. Total cost was a very fair £15 inc tip. P.S. Don't have young children ourselves so didn't use the kids room but we could see it from where we were sat and the kids in their were having a whale of a time! Worth a visit.
A fun diversion and a chance to take a break from the sun! You get a tciket when you go in and pay at the end of your session. Currently charging 1.5 Euros (about £1.05p) for 15 mins it gives you a chance to check your mail and mail a few friends/family. Nice to have a quick glimpse (but only a quick glimpse) out into the world.
A bit of a queue as 3 coaches turned up at the same time. That said it was one of the real highlights of the holiday. It is just so beautiful it's breathtaking. P.S. I'm not a great fan of heights but the platform is sturdy and the rails are high so...get on out there any enjoy probably some of the best views you'll ever see!
