Location: About 7kms northwest of Alykes just off the main road to Skinari

Getting There: Take the main road heading north through Katastari and keep going along the coast, you will see a couple of tavernas on the left and the beach on the right

Access: A steepish ramp leads directly onto the beach

Sunbeds: Yes

Toilets: No, you will have to leave the beach, cross the road and go to one of the tavernas

Watersports: No

Safe for Kids: Fairly safe, but the water gets deep quite quickly compared to other beaches

Food & Drinks: Across the road

Turtles: No

Seaweed: Not usually a problem

Sand or Pebbles: A mixture of shingle and smooth pebbles

Car Parking: There is a car park or you can park at the side of the road

Beaches near to Makri Gialos Beach:

Alykes Beach  (54 Comments) Fairly narrow in places, but quite a long beach so it only gets crowded close to the resort centre.

Makri Gialos Beach  (4 Comments) A pebbly beach in a beautiful setting well away from the main resorts so it rarely gets busy.

St Nicholas Beach Nth  (1 Comment) Not to be confused with St Nicholas in Vassilikos, this is a handy stopover place when visiting the Shipwreck or the Blue Caves, or even while waiting for a ferry to Kefalonia.

Xigia Beach  (4 Comments) A stunning little beach famous for the aroma of 'bad eggs'. It's sulphur escaping from the surrounding rocks apparently!
