I stayed at Athina Studios with 3 other mates for 2 weeks. I found the place great, all the rooms were reasonable sized, we dint buy air conditioning (which now we regret.) The owner of the studios keeps himself to himself but when you get to know him he is alright, his wife cooks great food and so does her son Yani! OH and girls watch out for yani!!!!! He is the best person on the island, you will get on with him soooo much! The pool is a good size, and remember to go skinny dippin in it like we did!!! lol (with 4 girls.) The location is perfect because its a short stroll to sum great bars and clubs, people remember to go to the factory!!! A MUST!! Any way i will definatly be coming back again next year as we liked the place so much.

Despite some of the previous comments, I had a great time staying at The Athina. The studios are located close to the shops and bars and both the pool and pool bar are excellant. Again despite previous comments, I found the owners to be very friendly and helpfull once you got to know them. I stayed from the 1st to 14th July 2002 and enjoyed every minute of the holiday and will definately be going back again!

Could anyone tell me where abouts in argassi these apartments are?Stayin here in september...thanks

I stayed at the Athina 30th June - 7th July 2002. I had a brilliant time the staff on the complex were great but if you look down the page at Chris Codys comments they are absolute rubbish. The pool was clean, the air conditioning is well worth the money better than a stupid little fan anyway, the staff are great if you try to get and know them instead of annoying them. Oh and yes the rooms are not exactly 5 star but what do you expect from a studio i mean who goes on holiday to cook your there to enjoy your self not to be the next Jamie Oliver. The location was great shops, bars and places to eat within a five minute walk away. The only downfall was the beach its very small but there are plenty nicer ones near by Argassi. I plan to go again in the near future.

Me and my partner visted the Athina studios June 30th - July 7th 2002. We had an excellent time and we are going back this October. The family who own the studios are very pleasant when you get to know them. Its true they have a Victor Meldrew cause he don't understand much English but if you try and talk to him he is ok. The showers are small but what do you expect for the price (a spa)? The swimming pool is not dirty because we seen it get sanitised every night and if it was dirty i wouldn't be writing these comments. Mark the Kosmar rep was very helpful, pleasant and we seen him 4 times in our one week stay. If you want some where nice to go try the Athina and say hello to Yiannis the motorbike freak!

I have just returned from the Athina, and found nothing to complain about, the room was fine. when visiting Greece unless you pay for a 5* hotel you are not going to get luxury. The owners do not speak much English, but I speak no Greek. The owners seem to work hard and seem to be there all the time, the cleaning lady works her socks off poor girl. The only thing I would advise anyone to do is to take their own bath towels, before you travel the booklet which comes with your tickets tell's travellers that most Greek accomm do not provide these or loo rolls !! If you are going to the Athina please don't be put off by others negative commets, it's not that bad !! Enjoy

I would like to echo the last message. I too have been here twice (last year and this year). I did not find the apartments or the pool to be dirty. The owners, although a bit quiet, were courteous and friendly. The bar prices were the same as any other pool-side bar. Greek studio accommodation is usually basic. As regards the cooking facilities, who wants to go on holiday and cook anyway!?!

Ross

The owners of these apartments are nice people but do not speak much English hence the image of being unfriendly. I wonder how much Greek the people who complain about them speak?!? As regards the accomodation it is like any other Greek studio...basic. I have yet to see a studio in Greece with dining facilities (a table). I have been to the Athina twice and would not hesitate to go again. Lets not forget that owners get a pittance from tour companies for accomodation so it is not unreasonable to allow them to enforce rules about consuming food etc (not bought from them) at THEIR poolside.

We stayed at the Athina Apartments from 23rd June until 30th June 2002. Firstly I would like to say that we had a lovely holiday and would go back to Zante again but not to the Athina. The owners were unwelcoming and certainly did not seem to enjoy their jobs. When we arrived the room was not cleaned so we had to wait, this did not bother us too much. The bed linen was the greyist I have ever seen and the towels. The pillowcases had holes in them. The kitchenette was a sink unit with a fridge and no table. The shower was just one big dribble. Mark the rep was fine but we did not complain so did not put him to the test. The best thing about the apartments was the air conditioning which was great. It cost 38 euros but was worth it. The owners should be more customer/friendly and Kosmar might like to tell them this!! Good holiday and will go back but not to the Athina.

We are currently staying in the Athina apartments (30th June - 14th July 2002). We have found the apartment to be dirty, the owners not very friendly, not allowed to take own food and drink down to the pool. The prices in the pool bar is almost double anywhere else in the resort. Air conditioning is charged at 35euros per week and a fan can be hired elsewhere for 10 euros per week (BE WARNED FOLKS). The owners do not speak and my friend who is also staying here was humilated in front of the whole pool area, as she had just arrived and went to check on her son at the pool and had a bottle of coke for him, and the owner known as Mr Meldrew shouted over that taking own food and drink was not allowed. She has put an official complaint to the rep. I have also complained as the room was dirty, and when I asked could I get my money back for the air conditioning is was told that I could not get it. (Wanted to rent a fan on second week). When I spoke to rep I complained that I could not get this back/ The owner has agreed to pay me back 28 euros when it should be 35euros. I also complained that the pool was dirty and most of the other guests have the same opinion about them and they will not be returning to these aparts. Roll on 14th July 2002 as I just want to go home, I have experienced some rotten places but this has been the worst.

The rooms are ok a little small... some are quite close to the road and can be a little noisy... aircon is available in all rooms but is very fiddily to operate especially if it is windy price per day is 5 euros.. The showers are quite small and for a woman they can not shave their leggs in them take toilet rolls and extra towels as u dont get any more when u r there. .. The dirt track is really handy to use but can be very dark in the early hours of the morning.. but when you've had a drink u don't realise it at all The owners are ok boss man looks very moody but only due to the fact doesnt really speak much english Weather for end of may was excellent... MARK the rep for the complex was useless.... all that came out of his mouth was a load of rubbish... Argassi is a very pretty area of the island and is great if you are a couple but is not that lively end of may...visit the magic mushroom bar and you wont even realise it !!!! great vodka and redbull !!!!

These apartments are ideally situated...near enough the nightlife to go (and stagger back) but far enough away to be very peaceful. Enjoy !!

me and my boyfriend are staying in the athina apartments in July, i just wondered where abouts they are located are they so close to the clubs and stuff that i wont get to sleep at night? and is the beach close?

Ross L

We were in these apartments in October and found them to be fine. Great pool, clean adequate accomodation. The owners were friendly and attentive when my elderly mother took ill. Do NOT worry about previous comments. We are going again in June and that must say something !!

WE STAYED HERE FROM 7-21 OCT. THE ROOMS ARE QUITE SMALL AND ALTHOUGH WE ASKED FOR A ROOM WITH AIR-CON WE DID NOT GET ONE AND ENDED UP PAYING 14.000DRS TO HIRE A FAN WHICH HAD NO GO IN IT. IN THE WHOLE TWO WEEKS WE WERE THERE WE HAD TO COMPLAIN NEARLY EVERY DAY AS THERE WAS NO HOT WATER, THE OWNER TURNED THE BOILER ON WHEN HE FELT LIKE IT. AND TALKING OF THE OWNER OUR REP SAID HE WAS A CROSS BETWEEN MR BEAN AND BASIL FAULTY BUT I WOULD SAY HE WAS THE SPITTING IMAGE OF VICTOR MELDREW NOT ONCE DID HE SMILE. IF YOU HIRE A CAR MIND THE CAR PARK IT RIPS THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR OFF YOU NEED A OFF ROAD CAR TO PARK IN THERE MIND YOU THE OWNERS OK HE PARKS HIS CAR ON THE ONLY FLAT SURFACE THERE IS THEN MOANS IF YOU PARK YOUR CAR THERE. THE REP MARK WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND WAS ALWAYS READY TO HELP. THE COOKING FACILTIES WERE SOMETHING TO BE DISIRED AND THE UNTENSILS CONSISTED OF ONE FRY PAN AND ONE SAUCEPAN.

Craig G

The appartments where pretty good for greece, the pool was excellent as where all the facillities. The onwers of the apartment are nice enough though the old guy rarely smiles. The Rep, Mark was very helpful and gave us good advice. Argassi is lovely and i'd recommend these apartments to anyone.

After reading the various comments about the Athina apartments we cannot believe they are about the same apartments that we have just come back from. The apartment was as good as any we have stayed in and were cleaned regularly. The pool was absolutely gorgeous and the sun beds were free unless you wanted a cushion and then there was just a small charge. Some of the apartments have air-conditioning which was great. The pool bar is open from early in the morning for breakfasts and then is open until aprox 1.30am or as long as there were people there who wanted a drink. We had numerous snacks during our fortnight there and everything was fine. Argassi itself has so many different restaurants it was difficult to choose which ones to eat at but they were all very good. The pool bar also has a good pool table and safety deposit boxes if you need them all at a reasonable charge. I really cannot understand the comments about the Kosmar rep. as the one we had was excellent, never before have we had a rep. that has visited apartments twice daily. Our party of six was of mixed ages from 18 years old to 50 years old and we all found him to be extremely helpful and friendly and his advice and help ensured we all had a great holiday. After reading the comments on this site before we went to the Athina we were quite prepared to meet the “ sullen owner “ but we didn’t find one. He may be on the quiet side but this did not mean that he wasn’t helpful and if you took the time to get to know him he is really a very friendly person and we have the photographs of him smiling to prove it. His wife was also a very lovely person and made all of us feel very welcome. His son was a lovely young man who had time for everyone and we had several really enjoyable evenings in his company. He took the time to help me with my Greek which I think proved very entertaining to everyone. We would certainly go back to the apartments just to see the family who own them, as had many people who were there at the same time as us. Thank you to Staleos, Mavra and Yannis and Mark (the Kosmar rep) Kathy & John

regarding the athena apartments. a group of us are staying there 2002. I believe there is a pool/bar. Can anyone tell me if there is limited opening hours on the bar. i.e. does it open for breakfast and does it stay open at evening/night? do we have to payfor the sun beds around the pool. Can anyone recomend any places to eat/drink in the area.

Dale G

Our room was not quite big enough and although it was clean we had to share the tiny shower room with mildew which was growing on the wall. How ever the pool area and pool bar was very nice and we had the occassional laugh with the owners. We went with Kosmar and the holiday rep was terrible but we rarely saw him anyway. Overall it wasn't too bad, but i wont be rushing back :)

Jock S

I'm just having a chuckle at the comments regarding the dour owner and the fact that his wife and son who are quite pleasant, try to cover up for lack of enthusiasm. Brilliant observation - I've known this family since the studios were called the Vourtsis back in '86 and nothing has changed.

Abby M

The apartments were fine and the surrounding area nice but the owners left a little to be desired we were with kosmar and we had a rep that covered all of argassi he was such a let down and just sat about drinking juice and didnt seem very interested in anyone else. You have to pay for your sunbeds everyday and hot water can be a hit or miss affair,i would go back to the apartment if there were different owners.

Tracy P

We had a lovely holiday in Argassi, staying at the Athina Appartments. My only comment is really on the sullenness of the owner, he never smiles and gives the impression that having guests is a trouble to him. His wife and son are quite pleasant and try to make up for this. His wife does the cooking at the pool bar and everything we tasted was really good. The rooms are small but clean, I was slightly concerned about the tiles in the bathroom (some looked like they may fall off). The pool area is great as Argassi does not have a beach as such - but you cannot eat/drink anything by the pool that you have purchased elsewhere! Our tour operator was Kosmar, our rep was great but we did not get our welcome meeting drink (the sullen owners fault I think)!

I got back from greece two days ago. me and a mate stayed in the Athena apartments. We were about the youngest people there which is good news for people looking for a nice peaceful holiday! The little pool and bar is lovely and the apartments were very clean but farely small. It only takes a couple of minutes to get to the resort centre down a little footpath which is convenient when you've had a few and need to make your way back up to your room in your little shoes.....or maybe thats just me!!

Lynne C

we stayed at the athena 2 years ago and loved it the cleaner comes in every morning which was a bit of a pain but its clean there is a short cut to the main street down a dirt track which just takes a few mins there is a nice little pool bar the pool is quite small but nice free sunbeds too some apartments are bigger than others we were lucky we were in the better ones plenty of room they are basic but good enough hope this helps, we are going back to argassi in july

Holly H
