Athena Studios

The "ATHINA" we were complaining about were the Athina Studio's which apparently is the only one out of the two with a pool.
It is page 77 in the Kosmar Greece 2005 brochure.

I believe the apartments that everyone is talking about on this page are the Athina Studios featured by Kosmar. the Athina Apartments is a different property, that was featured by JMC in 2000. does anyone have any information about them and which tour operator they are with now?

We are staying at the Athina STUDIOS on 12/09 - 19/09 and are a bit worried about the comments we have read. Could someone PLEASE clarify whether or not everyone is talking about Athina STUDIOS or APARTMENTS????

We have just arrived home from Zante today and our weeks stay at Athina Apartments. We were shown to room 12 by our rep who couldn't leave quick enough and told us if there were any problems with the room to see the owners who were supposedly very helpful.
We immediately wondered what we had come to... the whole room smelt of urine and was filthy. The fridge was balanced on 2 pieces of wood and still contained food stuck to the inside from previous guests and the top part of the fridge was falling off.
We virtually paddled into the bathroom to find ants around the shower and a stinking toilet.
We then noticed the bedding - the sheet was so threadbare you could see the pattern of the mattress through it and there were worrying stains on it! The towels were full of holes and looked like pieces of rag. We couldn't believe we had paid approx £750.00 for this shambles.
We fetched the owner who got the cleaner to mop up the bathroom floor and we were told to put a water melon in the fridge to disguise the smell!
Unfortunately, we weren't alone. No 11 complained as well and so did no 13.
Book a double room at your peril!!
P.s We were told it was our fault for booking a double room in the first place anyway............
A wet weekend in Skegness is more appealing than a week in Athina Appts - having said that, Argassi was beautiful.

just got back from argassi,fab holiday although yannis made me feel abit on edge as he just stares at you..the old man was sooo moody didnt like us cuttin over the filed athina appartment abit of a dive the owners arnt very friendly but the place its self is brill.had a wicked time..i recomend araggsi 2 anyone just not the athina aprtment been goin there since i was 16 still not changed but a good holiday..domitrious is a really good place near the beach people really nice...yo yannis u moody get and yannis's bird your a babe...just got back 2day....

Hey, we've just got back from a week at athina, what a fantastic place! Ignore bad comments the owners are lovely, just give them a smile and a hello. Always clean and a lovely pool. The atmosphere was great, everybody staying there was so lovely and made plenty of friends. (Hey to Sam, Mark and family, couple from Birmingham - thanks for all the recommendations- sue and husband, and the couple who's lilo we borrowed (sorry!) Really close to supermarket and nightlife but suprisingly quiet. Definitely recommend this place. ps despite past comments about the views/surroundings- they're beautiful. xx Girls from Sussex xx

We've just returned from a fab two weeks in Argassi at the Athina Apartments! They are basic, but better than some we've stayed in over the past years! The owners, especially Yiannis and Mika are lovely, takes some time to get them talking, but had a great laugh with them by the second week of the holiday.
The pool area, although quite small, is kept clean and tidy. They definitely pride themselves on the pool!
Only five minutes walk away from the small beach and the same to the shops, bars and restaurants, yet very quiet!

We stayed at the Athina studios from 20th june 2004 for 2 weeks. It was a lovely holiday and the appartment was basic but the maid came in to wash the floor and empty our bins every day, and changed the sheets at least 5 times in 2 weeks. Having read the other comments about the friendliness of the owners we had to laugh. The young couple were friendly and at first we thought that the old man was miserable but decided that it was a break down in commication as he speaks so little english he finds it hard, but yes the odd smile wouldnt go a miss!! Just buy him a bottle of amstral and hell be fine!! If you havnt been to argassi before and want both amazing food and nice friendly staff, then dont go without visiting Carrissmo. They do a lovely english breakfast and the main meals are the best we tasted in all the greek islands. The waiters Doni and Angelo were so nice especially with our 2 children, and even bought our little girl a necklace on her last day!

i am stayin at the athina studios 11/07/04 for a week, can anyone suggest any places 2 go 2? is anyone going there at this time? does anyone know how far the water park is from athina studios?

i have just come back from athina this morning and i just have to say that i had a great time, there were no problems with the place at all and Yannis, Mimmika, Mavra and Stellios were really nice and I would like to congradulate Mimmika and Yannis on the news that Mimmika is pregnant!

The Athin apts are set back off the main road and there is a little walk way from the back of the apt that takes you to the main road in two minutes flat. You can take the scenic route round the back lanes but that takes about ten minutes.

I loved it here so much I am going back in July, the situation is ideal cos there is no traffic noise or anything and you literally have to cross the road to get to the beach.

The managers are a bit moody looking but they are nice if you take the time to speak to them, adn their son Yannis is good looking but a bit of a tart!!

Dont dive into the pool if you want a telling off!!!!

according to the brochure its about 10min from all the bars and tavernas,it is the first drop off for Kosmar in argassi,it looks ok but we have never been,we always go to the agoulos apts,but Kosmar no longer deal with them.

Athina Studios (Kosmar) in Argassi, Zante - Where are these situated to the bars/restaurants in the town and what are they like (i.e. cleanliness etc).

In reply to the query re Athina Apartments I think that the apartments on this page should actually be the Athina Studios (Kosmar) and that there are also the Athina Apartments elsewhere in Argassi.

well the owners are not very friendly that is true but the apartments are very clean we go there on 30th may 2004 been there twice before no problems

Does anyone know if there are 2 apartment complexes in Argassi going by the name of Athina Apartments? I stayed at one of them in summer 2000. we travelled with JMC. these apartments had no swimming pool, but what they did have was theiving maids. we noticed several items went missing during our stay.

we also found we were always asked if we would like more drink before they went away,as for not smiling,BULL,we had many a great laugh with the owners,found them to be really nice,friendly people

surprised to hear they just closed up bar and left,my partner and I were alwasy asked if we would like more drink before they all left,sometimes we bought it and took it to our room,also found the rooms to be ok,at least they were clean,no smells at all like some people describe!

We were at the Athina for 2 weeks this August, the apartments were OK and found the resort was fine. I was shocked at the way the owners treated the guests, they were so rude, I never seen any of them smile in 2 weeks. I had paid for air conditioning and they switched it off early the day we were leaving, when we asked for it to be put on until we were leaving they put it on again briefly only to switch it off soon afterwards. When the bar was being closed at night, there was no such thing as a call for last orders or a goodnight, they just locked up leaving everyone sitting in the dark.

ok, enough is enough. This is a message for the site proprietor. I enjoy looking at this site to read the informative comments both negative and positive. Because of the ramblings of one idiot the reputation of these apartments is virtually ruined in this site. There may be faults but this is ridiculous. Some vetting of what are obviously stupid messages should be employed. There used to be a link to the webmaster to point out problems like these but this no longer exists. I hope that sanity will prevail and that the idiots will not take over the sanitorium. I await comments from the webmaster and, obviously, from Simon and Garfunkel (not Garfunkle), Robbie Williams etc.

i also visited athina earlier this year,dont know what everyone is complaining about! ok the appartments are very basic but my friend and I found them to be clean,cleaners in on a daily basis,also found yannis & his family ok we had no complaints about them either,think all you guys expecting hotel treatment..well,you only get what you pay for!!!

right ok,no more nit-picking.it was only a few days out of our lifetime,but we have no problems.so please,dont keep going against us?we liked,you didnt,thats how it goes..

we got on good with the owners,and our apts.were basic+clean,is that a problem with you all??no matter where you go,there is always a problem with someone,but also,there is also good.and we got on well with them!id pay to see you complainers put up with what they do for 16 years,see if you lost the plot now+then!we know that we are the only ones to have anything positive come from our stay,but there is always one!what can we say?we sat+chatted+had a few beers at night after the pubs,and WE cant complain.

to garfield and all who complained..my wife+I have no serious qualms about our stay at the athina apts.the place was a dump,it was so smelly,the family was so rude...that what you want to hear???sorry,but we had no preferrential treatment,we were treated as normal,as prevoiusly stated,our apts.were basic+small,but cleaners did well,no filth+no smells(apart from the smell coming from the building opposite and to the right as you face the bar)we have no major complaints!!what is everyones probs???we were ok,but we also understand everyone elses gripes(moans)which we did not hear of..again,we also had a few beers at night at the athina bar,before we went to bed.yiannis+co were good with us,maybe it was a fluke,who knows?but we have no complaints...as we all know,a holiday is what YOU make it.lets not all fall out please!! life goes on.

to all you snobby farts who b***h about small things in life,all i can say is,we have no complaints about our stay at the athina,or yiannis+family.we did spend a few nights at his bar and we were made to feel welcome,and we were also bought drinks by them.there is a way of speaking to someone when a complaint is made,and no doubt you didnt know how to complain in the correct manner,which is why you were told to f... off.anyway,no more on this subject from us,we enjoyed it,as we are not snobs,or perfectionists.(no doubt you will type more trash about athina,as you cant help yourself)you are the weakest link,goodbye!!.

all i can say is we got on great with them,they must not have liked any of u people and no i dunno what anyone elses room was or has been like but i can assure you if i had dirty sheets or towels i would have been 1st to complain no way would i stand for that but i can promise you sheets & towels were all like new and what u mean i know no better!!!!if i had bad things to say i would,we must have just been lucky,cleaners in every day 10am or maybe they starting to do something about all the complaints,u thought of that?

Maybe he wouldnt be so ignorant if u used manners with him... we stayed there 1 week got on great with him..ok,rooms were basic but not FILTHY as everyone puts it,everyone we met while staying there at same time as us had no complaints about rooms being FILTHY and they all got on with yiannis & family,you take time to get to know him he is a great person!!!! we sat every night had a few beers with them and a great laugh so, must be all you people that have no patience or manners thats all I can say!!!!

Athina accommodation was crap, very basic not very clean. Didn't have hot water from Sunday to Thursday, kept on complaining and eventually got water some parts of the day. Yiannis kept going to boiler room and knocking pipes till it came on! Bath towels were like rags, I've thrown better ones out!. Yiannis and family miserable and not friendly at all- never saw them smile once.Argassi was brilliant though and most of the Greeks were very friendly. Apollo bar with Sinbad was great.

stayed a week at the athina,thought it was good,appartments clean,bins emptied daily,yiannis & family very friendly if you get to know them,my husband and I spent a lot of time with yiannis & his girlfriend found them to be a really nice,friendly couple.....

Found the room to be like a dirty broom cupboard. Broken sockets and dirty soiled linen. More like a prison cell than a holiday apartment. Maybe the coach dropped us at the wrong place?

I should have known about this Zante site before I booked and went to the Athina Apartments. The bad reports from everyone are very true, I couldn't wait to come home again.

we all know the owners of hotels/apartments/studios should be making us feel welcome,but if they dont,we can try for them!!we stayed at the athina studios,and found the owners to be a wee bit quiet,but once we chatted to them we were made welcome!!(yes,this means yiannis)we got on great with him+his fiance.its nowhere near as bad as all the other spoilt people said it was.we found it clean,no smells either!!our toilet bins were emptied on a daily basis..so if the staff did'nt chat to you,did you chat to them??i guess not then!its good to talk..we enjoyed it all.and yiannis+family bought my wife+I a few drinks,and were very friendly.so if you are stuck up in the slightest,well,no-ones perfect.

This was a very disappointing holiday . The standard of accomodation was very poor . not even one star .

Do not consider visiting the Athina complex .

We wished we had known about this site before we had booked our holiday here . We now know why there was availability at the Athina and not elswhere . We agree that this was a dreadful place and would not recommend it at all .

Hi .. experienced a bad holiday . Our apartment was very small and sqaulid . We didn't see a cleaner all week and were allowed the same sheets all week .

i would like to say to BILL HARDING this site is for reports about holiday accomodation not to put your comments about people you have NEVER met. from what i can gather i can understand why yannis was rude to you and telling you to f*** off. you obviously do not understand the greek why of life and hopefully you will not go again as they dont need people like you slagging them off. we had no problems with yannis and never had he cant do enough for us. we must be better people and dont need to get a life unlike some eh BILL. regards.

Would not recommend , our worst holiday ever . Have read the other comments and agree with all the bad ones. Stay clear .

It would seem that everyone else had the same terrible experiences here that we had . Do not even think about going to the Athina Apartments . The town was quite good though .. plenty of restaurants and bars .

We had a dreadful stay at the Athina Apartments . We aslso suffered most of the problems others did with the Family that run the place. The apartment was very small and dirty. Certainly wouldn't recommend the place and definately wouldn't return.

We stayed in room 13, not unlucky.As previously stated, we didnt have a problem with the place and found it quite clean, but didnt have anything to do with the owners. The room had a safety deposit box, which we paid for when we paid for the air con.Think it was 45 euros for the week for both, but couldnt swear to it. It had a small kitchenette thing, all in one 2-ring hob, sink, fridge and cupboard Cutlery wasnt extravagent, but it never is in Greece. We had to go out and buy a cheap corkscrew, 50p. We didnt have any of the problems that have been mentioned on this site, maybe we were an exception.

JUST RETURNED ON THE 7TH SEPT THIS BEING OUR SECOND TIME AT ATHINA. I WHOLLY AGREE WITH WHAT SHARON SAID. WE WAS MADE VERY WELCOME BY ALL THE FAMILY. YANNIS AND MIMMICKA OFTEN ENTERTAINED OUR DAUGHTER CHARLEY. IF THE POOL BAR PRICES WERE SO EXPENSIVE THERE IS NO WAY THAT WE WOULD HAVE BEEN DRINKING THERE EVERY NIGHT AND HAVING A GREAT LAUGH. OK SO ITS NOT THE MOST PLUSH APARTMENTS IN GREECE BUT WE FOUND THEM MORE THAN ADEQUATE FOR OUR NEEDS. I'VE STAYED IN WORSE APARTMENTS. THANKS TO SHARON,MARK,JOHN,MARGARET,DONNA,ROB,JEAN,RAY AND OF COURSE MAVRA,STELLIOS,YANNIS AND MIMMICKA FOR A GOOD HOLIDAY.

we have just had our third visit to athina studios and have yet to find a fault!!!!!. if you take the time out to talk to mavra,stellios,yannis,mimmicka you will find that though there english is limited they are very very friendly people. most of the time they just leave you to your own devices which is what most holiday makers want!!.2 euros for large bottle of beer is not exspensive we dont think. we met lovely people when we was there and im sure they have the same views as us. of course you always get those that always find fault but we think top people and top accmodation. we would like to thank nick,ray,patsy,jean,john,margaret,rob,donna and of course the lovely charley for there company on the many late night drinks we had at the pool bar. happiness and good health to yannis& mimmicka in their future wedding in november and love to stellios& mavra xx

oh dear i was told to come on to this site,how id wished id have done it before taken the holiday, the athina apartments were horrid and the worst we have stayed in, the owners were so rude and didnt smile once in the whole time we were there which was 1 day to many,well everyone else has said it all, the Apartments were CRAP!!!!!! the only thing we did get was tan and the town itself was ok.

we stayed here for a week at the end of june, and had absolutely no problems at all. saying that though, we never had anything to do with the staff or amenities. we didnt like the look of the pool, always seemed to have dead flies in it, so went down to one near the sea most days. never ate there, and never went to the bar, we had made friends at the apollo bar last year, so usually went there.the room was very clean, bright, and the maid came about three times to clean, changed the beds once in the week, and emptied the bin/poo bucket about four times. we paid 45 euros for a safe and the air con for the week, which we thought was reasonable, as the holiday itself was quite cheap. we thought overall these were very good appartments, if you keep yourself to yourself and don't speak to the owners. we have stayed in much worse in argassi - gazebo inn, last year, now that was a s**t hole, but don't get me started on that one.......

the athina apartments (studios) was located just off the main street so you didnt get all the loud music all night. There was planty off places nearby to eat or buy food for self catering.

Hi, I haven't stayed in the Athina Studios yet.
I would just like to find out, if anyone knows, where the nearest cash machine is to the Apartments.

At least the weather was good!! The rooms at Athina are the smallest we have come across in the greek islands and the toilet stank of urine. If you want to sit by the reasonably maintained pool and relax I would suggest you sit away from the bar as they have music thumping out all day and most of the evening. The complex is run by a family all of who looked like suicide cases most of the time and never managed to raise a single smile. Many of the guests including ourselves had confrontations with the owners regarding costs of items and their seemingly magical ability to increase as the evening wore on. The pool table in the "complex" is run not on a cost per game but on a timer which can prove expensive.
If we had read the brochure properly before going we should have realised that although all rooms have air conditioning there is a charge to use it of 35 Euros per week.
We will certainly not be going back!!

we have had a great two weeks at the athina, this is our second vist and will be returning next year,Stellios, Mavra, Yannis and Mimmicka are good to talk to if you take time out to understand they have a different way of life and try and learn there language. they allways make us feel welcome. they leave you alone to enjoy your holiday and are not always in your face like some hotel owners. rooms are clean and tidy, basic just like all greek islands. just like to wish Yannis and Mimmicka all the best for there wedding later this year.

Can you tell me where the Athina apartment are located in relation to the Commodore apartments.

Got back sun 11th may 2003,rooms very small,freddie the dog`s been stolen!!yannis get`s married in dec 2003 (sorry girls!)we had own balcony,very small and in shade all day,we had feeling spirits at bar were watered down.Be careful,they charge for the sunbed cushions.on the whole,it was ok,wouldn`t go back though(rooms too small)at the end of day cheap and cheerful!!!!!!!!

do you get your own balcony,or are they shared

Suzanne, there are safety deposit boxes in the bar area of the apartments. A walk to the beach will take no more than 5 minutes. The picture you see in the brochure is taken from the pool showing the back of the block of studios with balconies on the other (sunny) side....I know this for a fact because I am standing on the lower floor beside my girlfriend and my daughter is on the upper floor in the pic !!!

All the apartments & studios have their own balcony.The photograph in the brochure is of the entrances to them.

im just wondering if the rooms have your own balcony or is it shared along all the rooms,as the photo in brochure looks like theres no divider between each one.how far from beach is it.how far from town.thanks

To Suzanne Bilclough - You are supplied with a rock hard fold out chair for your child. My daughter was 6 at the time and refused to sleep on it as it was so uncomfortable. Otherwise the apartments are clean, simple and basic. Pool is quite deep - there is a baby pool but you will be lucky if you can fit into it with your child. It's tiny! Good pool down by the beach which is cheap and very clean - sorry can't remember the name of it. If you want a good meal go to the Erato - food delicious. Must meet Freddy the dog at the Athina he's the one tied to the kennel day in day out. Overall the Athina is a good base for your holiday I recommend you take a torch as access is unlit. Have a good time.

we are staying at these appartments end of july,including my baby who will be a year old.is it a bed or a cot that is provided.thanks.

Stayed 2 weeks with my husband 9th September onwards, Apartments OK for Greek Standards. No hot water in mornings, pool was warmer than shower, tempted to take shower gel in there. Bathroom floor wet for whole time, even when cleaner put mat down. Owners OK, wish I had Yanni's job sit on my but serving people when they asked. I find most of the comments NOT TRUE !!! I think most of the tourists just want a refund from their holidays so they complain just out of a habit............ The place is excellent and the people running the place are the BEST!!! Do you laugh and joke 24hours a day? The rooms are of reasonable size, you have hot water all day long and as for the cleaniness the maid comes in your room everyday and collects your rubbish and cleans your room.The sheets are changed regularly and whenever you ask for extras the owners are always available. The pool bar is excellent with reasonable prices and good food. The pool is one of the best and cleanest in Argassi. The apartments are very close to all facilities. As for Yiannis the owner's son tries his best for all residents and not only.We have a great laugh every night with him. And as for Mark I think he is one of the best reps on the island. He is dedicated to his job.

Stayed in athina for 2 weeks end of August, with my partner.Thoroughly enjoyed my stay, even though we had the apartment next to the pool bar. There was no music pumping too loud, no road noise, just got woken up by the thunder and lightning we experienced on the last 10 days of holiday, but who's to blame for that!. Highly recommend these appts, ideally situated on back road, 5mins from beach, 5 mins from resort centre. Excellent.

The cleaner was terrible but everyone was easy to talk to, the pool was good and it was easy to get everywhere.

Just returned from the Athina aparts on 11th August.They where brilliant nice and clean pool nice and clean Mark the rep was there nearly every day.And Freddie the dog was lovely (good Greek name that). Went a few times to the Athina restaurant on the front for a meal excellent food, nothing to do with the apartments. Caroline Andy Emma Vera + Kevin

Party of 4. Stayed the first two weeks of June 02. We had such a great time we have booked up for next year, plus we are taking another friend with us taking our party size up to 5. Yannis, Mavra and Stellios are great, Stellios may seem offhand but this is due to his english being as good as my greek which currently consists of Yassou and Yammas. The holiday is what you make it. Stay away from Peter and his trip to Kampi for a greek night it is utter crap. The island cruise is a must but not with peter. A good greek night is at the illision just a two minute walk from the appartments.

We have just returned from the athina on the 11/8/02 and we havent got a bad word to say about the place. The owners Mavia, Stellios and Yani were all friendly and helpful. The people who were staying there the same time as us were all excellent as well. The apartments were good and cleaned regularly. The rep Mark was a great bloke and even smiled when we threw him in the pool. (as well as everyone else we threw in - including the owner Mavia). The pool was cleaned and filled every night - we could smell the clorine when we were swimming at 4 in the morning! Its a great place to stay and we would go back any day. So for people who are going soon dont take any notice of the bad commnets some people have made.

Staying at the Athina from 1st-14th September with my mate Cheryl, it's our first time in Argassi and we can't wait! Anyone reading this going to be there the same time as us?! Looking for a mad, drunken holiday before we go back to uni, any suggestions from Argassi veterans?! xx

Stayed in Athina Studios for 2 weeks, had a brilliant time. Stellios (victor) is a top bloke, he just dont speak English so struggles a bit. Yannis is a tart, specially when his g.friend wasnt about.pool's a decent size, had plenty of games of volleyball with Alan, jack, pricey an Fordy. Mark the rep was very helpful, especially for a shrewsbury fan. Head to the Factory for karioki, but make sure you keep an eye on your change. For a good pint of English beer try the meeting place. And a decent air conditioned pub is the beer academy.head down to the laconda hotel for the best stretch of beach an a decent pint. You'll find it oposite tesco's supermarket on the way to Zante town. the wreck is a good place to get free shots. Everybody super friendly, deff go back again. Just avoid Zante hospital at all cost. An Zante towns a waste of time too.

I thought it was great, i came home yestrday and i still want to be there.we thought the pool and rooms were very clean and the owners were very friendly especialy yannis i agree with the boys, he is the best person on Zakynthos and he is a motorbike freak, he was great to talk to and i really miss talking to him!i went with my mum my brother his wife and their two kids,we thought the resort was great but watch out for peter, who stands outside Tiffany's in the town, he's crafty!there are many good tavernas to eat and and i thought the factory was ok.Definately tinking about going back to the Athina!!

could someone please tell us like what pub the athinas are near? or the name of another hotel near them please!!! cos we're goin to stay there in september. (like are they on the same road as the factory and beer academy? or are they up near tropicana? or are they down near the magic mushroom?? or where??!) please help!!! cheers
