We stayed in these Apartments between 30th July and 4 August, unfortunately we experienced quite a bit of rain and cloud, which was not expected, and an earthquake. However the apartments were really lovely. We had a two bedroomed apartment. Very clean. We had children aged 8 and 11 with us and there was no entertainment in the evenings for them. There was a karoke on the last evening and that was all. The people were very nice in the hotel and very helpful, and the food is lovely. Air conditioning can be expensive if you use it every night and you pay for each bedroom. The beach is lovely, we took a Taxi to Laganas which is very inexpensive and then walked along to Kalamaki beach, quite a way for the children, but loaded with Ice Cream and Crisps they never noticed. There is a fair bit of aircraft noise, but I felt it added to the holiday rather than annoyed me. The only thing I would say is that the outskirts of the hotel is not really looked after, and there is no childrens entertainment. If you walk along the road towards the beach however, there are some of the other hotels with entertainment.

another web site to try for onfo on zante and the hotel is zante-uncovered.co.uk

Mandy, brewers yeast tablets are meant to keep mozzis away, you start taking them about a week before you go, dont taste great though, skin gives off smell mozzis dont seem to like, has work for us, again get them in boots, other than that you have to drink alot of G& T when you are out there!, good luck

Steve M

also be at Amaryllis from 20th Aug, children 8 & 12, so thats the kids sorted! The Moss family

Mandy, "Mosqito Milk" is a roll on available from Boots (about £7) can be used on Children from aged 3, this has worked for us in the Greek climate the last two years. Also "Bug bands" wrist and ankle bands that you wear at night (again from Boots) definately recommended. Not tried this but have been told to take Citonella oil and put a few drops on a cotton wool pad and leave in room early evening. The children are always sprayed with repellant before we go out on an evening. Hope this helps.... see you there

Sharon B

Mandy, we have never stayed at the amarylis before but we have stayed in Zante, our children (4&9) loved the beaches and the lovely warm climate. Take plenty of high factor sun cream as it is still very hot at this time of year. we are flying out on 27 Aug 2002 so you never know we might meet up!

Mandy B

My family and I are staying at the Amaryllis at the end of August. We have two children one 7 and one 10.We would welcome any information about kids clubs or entertainment that they would enjoy. They like mini Disco's, shows ect. This is our first year in an apartment and are worried about entertaining them in the evenings.Any entertainment ideas for both day & night would be welcome. Any updates about the heat and temp. and how to combat the mosquito during our stay would also be helpful thanks Mandy & C0

There are no banks or ATMs in kalamaki. Nearest ATM is in Laganas 30 - 40 minute walk away or 5 euros in a taxi. The banks are in Zante Town, about 7-8 euros in a taxi.

Mary W

About the banks - Are there any banks locally, where they have any ATm machines, if not what?? Thanks

Liz C

Location of Amaryllis: From the T junction head west along Laganas Road, past Mermaids, past Pandesia until you get to Paolos restaurant on your right. Amarylis is then 30yds down a side road that leads down to the beach passing hotel metaxa, dennys inn, john and joys on the way. If this is still not clear goto http://www.justzante.co.uk/Zante/Kalamakimap.htm and the amaryllis is directly below the word ROAD on the left side of the map. Hope this helps!

Jude W

please could someone let me know where the amarylis aparthotel is situated. have been to kalamaki before stayed at the hotel exotica. travelling in sept.

Nick A

We never stayed at this hotel, but at the Roseland just round the corner. We visited the restaurant at the Amaryllis twice and found the food to be excellent on both visits. My wife found the smarmy attitiude of the head waiter to be a little too overbearing, but the food and wine is good, and well worth a visit.

Sharon B

Myslef and my husband & 2 Children (8 and 4) will be visiting the Amarylis in Aug 02. We came to Kalamaki 2 Years ago and loved it. Can anyone give me an exact location, last time we stopped in the Hotel Maralen opposite the Golden Sun Hotel and about 5 Mins walk from the beach. First choice are very evasive about where this accomodation is?

Sarah C

My family stayed here June 11 -18. We all had a great holiday although not much for the kids to do, luckily they were showing all the world cup footie games! Plenty of flies and mossies about in the evening and the noises coming from the bull rushes behind our apartment were very 'tropical!'. The walk to the beach seemed to take longer than 10 minutes, but that could have been due to the heat (temp on average was 40+).Kalamaki beach is lovely; clear, warm waters and clean sands - go past the sun loungers and it feels like you've got the beach to yourself.Hired an opentopped jeep from Hermes, toured Zante, the island is small and the roads were really quiet. Some spectacular views, take plenty of water with you wherever you go.We were not very impressed with our tour rep, but luckily didn't have much to do with her! We also managed to have a late check out for our apartment as our flight was a late one. A fabulous holiday was had by us all, will be going back to another Greek island next year!

Steve M

Karen many thanks for your advice on changing money and safety deposit boxes, all your views and comments are very helpful, and take some of the guess work out of were to go to eat, drink etc, thereby saving valuble holiday time, looking forward to our holiday there inAug, many thanks!

Myself and two friends (all female 30 somethings) have just come back from a week at the Amaryllis and, as others have said, it is a Greek Luxury. The rooms are spacious and clean and, compared to other Greek hotels/apartments, well furnished. All rooms are equipped with TV, phone, dressing table, dining table, sofa(s), wardrobe and small kitchenette. The bathrooms are bigger than is usual and you do get a decent working shower (that you can stand under!), hot water all day and a shower curtain. The aircraft noise is a little shocking at first (the first one we heard was at 6am on our first morning - and it scared the life out of us!) but they aren't that frequent (Sat and Sun are the worst days), they don't fly at night and you do get used to it (you don't think you will but you do!)... also at the end of the day, its not the hotels fault! The girls in the hotel snack/pool bar are fantastic, always a smile and great service. The restaurant does decent food (ask for no mayonnaise on the salad tho, as they seriously put a pot of it on the top!) and it's reasonably priced... no more than any of the other places nearby. If you go, say 'Hi' to Theodore (night bar), Katerina (his girlfriend behind the bar in the restaurant), Demitris (the night porter) and Stratos (the owner). All the staff are lovely, helpful and very polite. I would recommended to all.

Karen O

Steve... Yes the Amaryllis changes money. If you have Euro Travellers cheques, they charge 1 euro from each cheque. They also have safety deposit boxes at 10 Euros for 1 week. The air condition is worth the 5 Euros a day (8 euros if you are in a double room as there are two aircon units in those).

Sharon H

The Amaryllis was wonderful, freindly staff, lovely restaurant, brillant pool area we couldn't fault it at all. There is a bit of aircraft noise but its all part of the holiday. The beach is about a 10 minute walk and the resort centre is about the same. We would recommend these apartments they are family freindly and very clean (the air conditioning is a must but it is 8 euros)

Steve M

can you tell me the best place in Kalamaki to channge your currency, does amaryllis have money changing and safes !

Glyn T

Just come back from 2 weeks holiday at the Amarylis and absolutely loved it!! Great apartments very clean and a real bonus having a Taverna and mini-market on site. The aircraft noise is not realy a problem in the apartment as they don't fly at night and all aparments are double glazed with window shutters to keep out the noise and Mosi's. Kalamaki is a great resort and it's only about a 10min walk to beach or resort centre, although there are some lovely restarants nearer.

Nigel J

Very clean for Greece and food in the Hotel's Taverna was excellent (The waiters are superb). The kitchen is basic (Fridge with freezer compartment, 2 electric rings and a kettle), but they do supply a corkscrew as well as very basic cooking utensils (Don't expect to cook much there). However, with the vast number of restaurants and cafes in Kalamaki, you shouldn't have to. There is a mini market on site which is very handy, but prices are a bit more expensive than the high street. Aircraft noise is louder than published. The hotel is practically at the end of the runway. However, thanks to the turtles, there are no flights after 11.00pm and the first flight is around 5.00am. It becomes a bit of a spectator sport watching the airplanes go over the hotel (There aren't that many during the day). The hotel is ideal for young families due to the pool area and proximity to the beach. Not the best place for couples or groups of singles looking for nightlife. Would recommend the Beach Taverna for lunch and drinks when you are on the beach. In summary, the Amaryllis Aparthotel offers very good clean accommodation with some occasional intense aircraft noise, which is tolerable, along with very good food. The Greek Night was good fun and the staff join in.

Declan G

In reply to Hayley... Just returned from Zante on Sunday ( 26 May ), stayed here at the Amaryllis Aparthotel. Accomodation is very clean, spacious, you even get a shower curtain and kettle, which is unusual in Greece. A little aircraft noise now and again, but it is not at all obtrusive. All staff and management at the Hotel were excellent, make sure you try their Bacon "n" Egg Rolls, they are great. Swimming Pool is very nice and clean, Pool bar open late and very good value for money. Is located a short walk from Kalamaki main area, less than 5 mins to the main drag, where you will find some excellent bars and restaurants ( recommend Mermaids ). If you want some really live nights out, take a short Taxi ride to Laganas, we visited it last Friday. I believe there are now 107 bars in Laganas, so you have a choice, it is advisable to avoid the Club 18-30 masses stumbling down the street, just in case one of them throws up over you. After a night in Laganas, retiring to a nice quiet Hotel in Kalamaki is just the tonic, and believe me it is very nice and quiet. I also recommed hiring a jeep to explore the island, there are some very beautiful secluded beaches towards the North end of the island. Myself and my Wife hired a new Suzuki Jimny, open top from Traffic, got a cracking deal including full insurance. Their number is 06950 234430, they will drop the car to your Hotel and collect at the end of hire period if you wish. Have a great time.

I am going to Zante with my boyfreind in June and I would like to know more about the Amaryllis Apartments in Kalamaki which is where we are staying. We are a young couple and wanted to stay somewhere not to Loud so when we do want a Loud night out where is the best place to go? Thanks..........

Bill H

Were thinking of visiting the island for the first time in mid-september, is the weather still ok?, will this resort and accomodation be suitable for Familey with 3 kids aged 12 10 9?......and can you book this place direct on the web? Bill.

Rob F

This is Greek luxury - believe me i've been to quite a few islands. The staff are great, the rooms are clean, the food is good, the pool area and gardens are spacious - get there soon. First Choice will be there again next season and Gemma will again be the Rep. The place is developing fast so get there before it's spoilt.

Gemma S

Oh, but if you want air conditioning and you have a double room, they actually charge 2500 pts (under £5) as there are then two air conditioning systems in the room.

Gemma S

This place is luxury compared to anywhere else in Greece i've ever been to, you actually get a shower curtain!!! The people are really friendly, and the pool area is always clean and tidy!!! Resonable priced food! The location is right near the airport and, not to put people off, you can actually see the planes coming in to land, which is an amazing sight. There is a bit of noise from this, but the double glazing helps, and planes cant fly at night, due to the turtle beach down the road, which reduces noise!! Recomend the air conditioning, and you must try Paolo's across the road, best food on the island!!!!!

Poppy A

We stayed here for two weeks - Excellent apartments, very friendly, helpful staff. Fantastic pool, and a smaller shallow pool for toddlers. The complex is away from the huzz-buzz of the town and main road, but beach and Kalamaki town just a short walk away.

Di M

Update to our last report. Just returned from a week at this complex, It was very new, very clean, attractive and modern. The apartments and studios are all double glazed, have an excellent air conditioning system (not the normal tractor type you sometimes find when your abroad) There is an extra charge of 1.500drm per night (just under £3) but well worth the cost. The complex has a lovely pool. Not too crowded even when the place is fully booked. Brilliant for lilo wars so if you have any take them with you. Sunbeds and parasols are by the pool and are free of charge. There is a poolside bar which serves breakfasts and good snacks all day and the bar is open until the early hours of the morning. The Taverna (part of the complex) is open from 6pm until 1am and the food is competetivly priced and offers a good choice of traditional and English food (including a childrens menu which has all the kiddie favourites). The complex has a shop which is open until about 11pm. (very useful if your landing on a late flight). It is situated about 6-7 minutes walk from the beach and about 10 minutes walk from Kalamaki centre and is just off the main Laganas/Kalamaki road. Taxis are easily available and are a lot more reliable than the bus service which runs on GMT (Greek maybe time). Vertually all new build within the Kalamaki resort is located near to the end of the airport runway and this is no exception. You are very close but the noise comes in short sharp burst and is surprisingly unobtrusive. The airport is closed at night (because of the turtles)and is busiest early morning and early evening. I am a lite sleeper and the early morning flights didn't bother me at all (another good reason for air-con, you can keep your doors and windows shut) If you are a Unijet client, don't worry about the building work. It is not at all intrusive and they only work from 8am until 2pm. Gemma, the First Choice rep is excellent. Friendly, helpful and good fun. All in all, we had a really good holiday.

Di M

Unijet are just sending out letters that state that the Amaryllis complex has building works within the vacinity. Not a surprise really as research had indicated the complex was within the new build area. The tour operators do state that the complex apartments and studios all "look inwards" towards the complex pool and facilities and that the complex is of a typical "greek style" build and that non of the views from our balconies are contaminated. The tour operator is presently investigating the site activity time for us (we fly out on the 31st July). We will update you when we get back on the 8th August. Keep your fingers crossed for us pls
